In the 1940s, President Truman spent time at the "Little White House" in Key West--the very reason Viktor Minnich is sent there. Viktor is a spy from the USSR who arrives via Greyhound bus with his young son, Vlad. They are quickly helped by Hank, a devout Christian, who finds lodging for them and helps Viktor start his own bait and tackle shop.Four-year-old Vlad adapts to his new American home even though he misses his mother back in Russia, while his father carries out spy assignments. Viktor's brilliant mind is soon tormented as he is forced to deal with circumstances beyond his control. When he develops feelings for a Florida woman, Laura, the turmoil almost gets the best of him.In his heart, Viktor is a family man, but he is also loyal to his republic. His face-to-face talk with USA counterespionage agents is mandatory. After Viktor disappeared, a young lady digs deeper into the life of Viktor--but is she ready to uncover the many mysteries of a Russian spy and the woman he loved--even if it takes her all the way to the USSR?

Margaret was a chic tall green-eyed beauty with curly red hair. She grew up in a large close-knit family. She was closest to her youngest sister, Betty-Jean. They were more than sisters. They were like best friends. Betty-Jean confided in her and kept no secrets. She'd tell Margaret her troubles and triumphs before she'd tell anyone. Margaret lived in a small quiet town, Hollis Hill, which was a warm and peaceful place. She was a head buyer for McQueen's, a large department store chain, and had impeccable taste and fashion sense. She met Sherry on a business trip to the big city. Margaret preferred the comfort of her small town. She stopped off at a small bar for a drink, where she met Sherry. They hit it off right away. Sherry was a pretty brunette. She had a no-nonsense personality and a temper to match. She had a complicated history full of foster homes and sexual abuse, but Margaret fell head over heels. Betty-Jean and Sherry didn't like each other. They only tolerated each other because of Margaret. As Sherry and Margaret's relationship deepened, Betty-Jean and Sherry's dislike for each other grew deeper. Sherry had started receiving crank calls and roses, which became a nuisance. Sherry and Margaret met the handsome Storm Winters at a launch party. He was from Tennessee. He was a business tycoon and a jetsetter. He took an instant liking to Margaret as she did to him. Margaret didn't warm up to people right away. However, he was different. They became good friends. After that, their lives would never be the same. About the Author Edna Louise McQueen Plummer enjoys traveling, decorating, and listening to country music. When she's not writing she enjoys doing volunteer work. She is the mother of two adult children, Jacqueline and Sydney. She lives happily with her husband, Willie, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The title paper in this compilation, "Filtrable Bacteria", was published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases in 1931. This was the third in a series dealing with the subject of bacterial variability. The first ("Microbic Dissociation") was published in 1927, and the second ("The Twort-d'Herelle Phenomenon") in 1928. "Filtrable Bacteria" continues the study of dissociative variations among bacteria, and addresses the method of production, the cultural behavior, the morphology and the filterability of what may be termed "the filterable virus stage" of the Shiga dysentery bacillus. PHILIP HADLEY This present compilation also incorporates a 1937 article, "Further Advances in the Study of Microbic Dissociation".
