A romance on an epic, generation-spanning scale, Mae Marvel's The Guest Book delivers the authors' signature heart, sapphic steam, and humor in a book you'll curl up with and never forget. The whole world believes Cosima Frank's life has been a fairytale. Now she's trying to live up to the overwhelming legacy left to her by her late mother, the Queen of Hollywood. As the pressure begins to build, Cosima does the only thing she can think of: run straight to the inn where her parents met and fell in love, intent on finishing her mother's bucket list. Edie Whitelock isn't like anyone Cosima has ever met. She's persistent enough to march up to Cosima's door and provoke her to get out of bed and follow the disarming woman through the charming English village. Edie's also on the run from her past, but she finds that she relishes bickering with the pretty Los Angeles princess a whole lot more than she expected. The two women couldn't be more different, but they find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other. Trapped indoors by thunderstorms, Cosima and Edie discover the inn's guest book, whose entries date back more than fifty years--and inside it, a romantic treasure hunt left behind by a long-ago guest whose clues unexpectedly send them across England, Spain, and France on an adventure they hope will change both of their lives. But sometimes the treasure you seek isn't the one you find.

Life, love, community and history all answer the one question all of God's creation is asking and have been asking for years. Those who do not wonder are like objects that have no life or breath. Everyone asks it in a different way but essentially it is asked. Is it ever answered? What Part of me is Saved is a book about my thoughts and feelings. It is a book that includes short stories and scenarios and very blunt observations of who I am and my part of the question. You can laugh, cry, feel angry or hurt but mostly I want you to just sing, and make your song be the answer to the question. My song is!

In roughly five decades, between 1848 and 1899, more gold was removed from the earth than had been mined in the 3,000 preceding years. But friction between Chinese and white settlers on the goldfields of California, Australia and South Africa catalysed a global battle over “the Chinese Question”: Would the United States and the British Empire outlaw Chinese immigration? This distinguished history of the Chinese diaspora and global capitalism chronicles how a feverish alchemy of race and money brought Chinese to the West and reshaped the nineteenth-century world—from Europe’s subjugation of China to the rise of the international gold standard and the invention of racist, anti-Chinese stereotypes that linger to this day. Drawing on ten years of research across five continents, prize-winning historian Mae Ngai argues that Chinese exclusion was not extraneous to the emergent global economy but an integral part of it.

My darling granddaughter, Tykiah-your stay on earth was very brief. Still you experienced life and all of its changes, the ups and downs, the good and bad, the mean and lovely, you knew those that had and those that had nothing (this reminds me of The Haves and the Have Not) which is a show created by Tyler Perry Productions in 2013( after your time here on earth). You experienced and associated with the saved and the unsaved, the young and the old. You found so much favor with the elderly because you represented LOVE and COMPASSION, CARE and CONCERN. Your conversations expressed much wisdom and understanding in such an amazing way. As a human being you were very spiritual.

Can one person really change the world? Can a child be the source of change in an individual's life? As the book begins with a description of a single prize, Mae chooses to disclose what life was like as a Haitian child and teen living in a country that despises her because of her color and history her culture possesses. All throughout her life she encountered challenges that made her feel small, and insignificant but it was one thread that kept her going. The thread was a baby that came into her life at the age of 13 and changed it forever
Rainbows but Not Unicorns: My Adoption Truth
Adoption is complicated because it begins with loss. Like an onion, there are so many layers to peel back to get to the heart of each individual story. Children don't ask to be adopted, nor do they ask to have their entire world turned upside-down. Children don't look through a catalog to choose their "perfect" family. Adoptive Parents do. Has your adoption journey been tough? Will there be a light at the end of it? A rainbow? A Unicorn? Did you drink the adoption Kool-Aid?
