DNA testing led to information showing where my ancestors traveled and lived over an approximate 50,000 years. This journey began in Eastern central Africa and ended with my ancestors moving to America in 1717. The history of the locations where my DNA type was found led me to realize how much of the world's history was developing where they traveled and lived. Their journey took them from Africa to Anatolia, the Fertile Crescent area (Bible Lands) and across the Alps into Switzerland where they began using the surname Knusli. In Switzerland, they joined the Mennonite Religion and suffered religious persecution and were forced to move to Alsace on the Rhine River. In 1717, they made the journey to America and settled near Lancaster, PA. The Knusli surname has changed many times over the years including Nicely, Knisely, Kneisly, Knisley, and others. DNA testing has linked these and many other spellings to the Knusli family line. This book is the result of 15 years of family research.

This book is about dance’s relationship to language. It investigates how dance bodies work with the micromovements elicited by language’s affective forces, and the micropolitics of the thought-sensations that arise when movement and words accompany one another within choreographic contexts. Situating itself where theory meets practice—the zone where ideas arise to be tested, the book draws on embodied research in practices within the lineages of American postmodern dance and Japanese butoh, set in dialog with affect-based philosophies and somatics. Understanding that language is felt, both when uttered and when unspoken, this book speaks to the choreographic thinking that takes place when language is considered a primary element in creating the sensorium.

For the first thirteen years of her life, Rowan leads a quiet existence in her small village. Her innocence comes to a brutal end the day a band of raiders abducts and assaults her, selling her into slavery in a distant land. After years of enslavement, she makes a life-or-death choice when a rival clan destroys her village. She flees into the unknown wilds of an ancient forest, taking a small band of followers with her. Vowing to live free, Rowan and the women become defiant survivors. They learn to fight, growing into a clan of fierce warriors. Outsiders call them the Womara--women who live without men. Generations later, the Womara are thousands strong. When the clans of the region propose a new alliance to build lucrative trade routes, Rowan's descendant, Seanna, represents the Womara's interest in a high-stakes negotiation for their rightful place in its formation. Ruthless opposition by the all-male clans forces her to make a concession that could shift the balance of power. Rather than sacrifice the Womara's inclusion in the alliance, Seanna must break a secret oath given to a would-be king. Even though strangers, the undeniable attraction during their fated encounter now sets in motion changes that could forever alter the Womara's future.
