Walter Payton was arguably the greatest running back in the history of professional football. A star for the Chicago Bears from 1974 to 1987, Payton rushed for a National Football League career record of 16,726 yards. Known to football fans everywhere as "Sweetness," he helped lead the Bears to a Super Bowl victory following the 1985 season and over the years established himself as one of the sports world's most popular and personable role models. Payton was beloved by his teammates, idolized by his fans, and embraced by business partners. He captured the heart of the Windy City with a graciousness complimented by a spirit of humility and a wonderful sense of humor. Millions mourned in early November 1999 when Payton, a youthful 45, succumbed to cancer after a nearly year-long battle with various health problems. Even in his dying days, however, Payton maintained his dignity, a spirit of community charity, and a legendary ability to pull off practical jokes that would send friends and family reeling with laughter. Before he passed away, he reportedly also renewed his commitment to his Christian faith. His death on November 1 coincided with the day known as All Saints Day in many Christian quarters. A richly imagined novel based on the life of artist Agnes Pelton, whose life tracks the early days of modernism in America. Born into a family ruined by scandal, Agnes becomes part of the lively New York art scene, finding early success in the famous Armory Show of 1913. Fame seems inevitable, but Agnes is burdened by shyness and instead retreats to a contemplative life, first to a Long Island windmill, and then to the California desert. Undefeated by her history - family ruination in the Beecher-Tilton scandal, a shrouded Brooklyn childhood, and a passionate attachment to another woman - she follows her muse to create more than a hundred luminous and deeply spiritual abstract paintings.
In this Part 1, Stella starts out as a young mother of a growing family. In search of good employment, the family moves from South Dakota to Seattle, Washington. In Seattle, her husband Charles is consumed with remodeling their house while working full-time. Stella gets a job at Northwest Airlines, and the demands of being a working mother are evident, but so are the benefits of being a two-income family. As the children grow up, Stella's husband Charles suffers from poor health and dies at age 55. Stella makes the needed adjustments and becomes very active at her church. Her diary continues with Part 2.
Stella Pelton kept a diary from 1958, when she was a 35-year old mother of four living in Ethan, South Dakota, through 1996, when she died of ovarian cancer at age 73, in Seattle, Washington. In this Part 2, Stella begins her adventures as a world traveler. She visits the Netherlands, Italy, Yugoslavia, Israel, Brazil, Ireland, Germany, and England, along with many cities in the United States. She also gets started on her role as a grandmother to 7 lucky grandchildren, who love spending time with her and getting spoiled. Stella retires after working for 20 years in the airline industry and then devotes more time to serving others in her church. In 1991, she learns that she has ovarian cancer, and undergoes several phases of chemotherapy. Stella passes away in 1996 at the age of 73, after having spent her life making the world a better place.

The spiritually inspired pictures of Agnes Pelton (1881–1961) have their roots in the desert of California, a place where the artist settled in 1932 and where she lived until her death. She wrote of her highly symbolic paintings that her pictures were “like little windows”, which opened up a view into the interior, her “message of light to the world”. In the 1920s Agnes Pelton started to explore abstract painting, because this offered her the possibility of translating esoteric topics into pictures as well as interpreting earth and light in a spiritual way. Like her fellow-artist Georgia O’Keeffe, Pelton deliberately turned her back on the art scene of the East Coast. She was celebrated for her abstract compositions: “… it is simply an oasis of beauty for the eye”, was how American Art News eulogised her work. After her death Pelton’s work disappeared from the public focus for a long time; today her important artistic contribution to American modernism is acknowledged once more.

Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist will be the first survey of this under recognized American painter in over 22 years. Her distinctive paintings could be described as metaphysical landscapes rooted in the California desert near Cathedral City. Pelton chiefly drew on her own inspirations, superstitions, and beliefs to exemplify emotional states. The publication seeks to clarify the artist’s significance and role within the cannon of American Modernism but also against the legacy of European abstraction. It contextualizes her work against her contemporaries, Marsden Hartley and Georgia O’Keeffe, and their distinct versions of American spiritual modernism. Pelton’s highly symbolic paintings were inspired by religious sources ranging from Theosophy and Agni Yoga to the spiritual teachings of Dane Rudhyar and Will Levington Comfort. Over three decades she devoted herself to painting spiritual abstractions, which conveyed her “light message to the world.”

En underbart rolig bok om Anette och hennes hund Pyton. Anette som egentligen önskade att Pyton inte alls var en hund utan en orm och försöker stå ut med Pytons eskapader och försöker undvika en katastrof dit de än kommer. Pyton måste gå i valpskola och lära sig kommandot snurra och såklart är han pinsam och sämst. Eftersom Marie har brutit benet blir Anette hundvakt åt Maries snobbiga hund Angelo och måste dessutom ta med honom på en utställning. Men kanske kan Pyton också vinna en tävling om han lyckas med snurren?
Anette har önskat sig en pytonorm hela sitt liv. När hon tvingas flytta med sin familj till stan där hon har NOLL kompisar, tror hon att det äntligen är dags. Men istället får hon en hundvalp som hennes mamma har köpt på Blocket. En hund! Vem vill ha en hundvalp istället för en orm? Anette bestämmer sig för att döpa hunden till Pyton. Allt känns jobbigt och för att göra det ännu värre tvingar Anettes mamma henne och Pyton att gå i valpskola, men inte hjälper det, det är bara pinsamt när Pyton vägrar lyda. Till alla som någon gång drömt om en gullig valp: gör inte det. Följ med Anette och Pyton på deras första äventyr så förstår du varför!
