In this revised new edition, Bayne and Jinks expertly combine the professional and academic aspects of applied psychology. The contributing authors, all experts in their field, provide authoritative and engaging overviews of their areas of expertise and an important range of perspectives. The book is organised into three parts. The first part is a general context for applied psychology including a discussion of questions about evidence based practice. The second part discusses practice and training in a plethora of areas of applied psychology, including all of the traditional routes (for e.g. clinical, health and educational psychology), eight 'relative newcomers' to the field (for e.g. sport and forensic psychology) and four areas not always regarded as applied psychology: counselling, coaching, careers guidance and lecturing. The innovative third part is a roundtable of expert practitioners commenting on the new directions they would like to see in their areas of applied psychology. Applied Psychology: Research, Training and Practice 2nd Edition will be essential for all students considering a career in an applied field, either those studying applied psychology at undergraduate level or MSc students on applied psychology courses at this level.

Erin McCabe is a New Jersey criminal defense attorney doing her best to live quietly in the wake of a profound personal change - until a newsworthy case puts her whole life at risk... Erin McCabe has been referred the biggest case of her career. Four months ago, the son of a New Jersey state senator was found fatally stabbed in a rundown motel near Atlantic City. Sharise Barnes, a nineteen-year-old transgender sex worker, is in custody, and, based on the evidence against her, there seems little doubt of a guilty verdict. As a transgender woman herself, Erin knows that defending Sharise will blow her own private life wide open and doubtless deepen her estrangement from her family. Yet she feels uniquely qualified to help Sharise and duty-bound to protect her from the possibility of a death sentence. While Erin works with her law partner, former-FBI-agent Duane Swisher, to show Sharise acted in self-defense, the senator begins using the full force of his influence to publicly discredit them and their efforts to mount a defense for Sharise. And behind the scenes, his tactics are even more dangerous. For his son had secrets that could destroy the senator's own political aspirations - secrets worth killing for...

Not all who confess are guilty... The death of millionaire businessman Charles Parsons seems like a straightforward suicide. There's no sign of forced entry or struggle in his lavish New Jersey mansion - just a single gunshot wound from his own weapon. But days later, a different story emerges. Computer techs pick up a voice recording that incriminates Parsons's adoptive daughter, Ann, who duly confesses and pleads guilty. After the case is brought to her attention by an unlikely source, Erin McCabe and her law partner, Duane Swisher, soon realise that pieces of Ann's story don't fit together. Ann clearly knows more than she's willing to share, even if it means a life sentence. Who is she protecting, and why? As their investigation deepens, Erin and Swish find themselves caught in a web of human exploitation, unchecked greed, and murder - before learning the horrifying truth...

Erin McCabe's years as a criminal defence attorney have prepared her for almost anything - except for being on the opposite side of the interrogation table. A new client - a successful financial advisor - has been found stabbed to death on the beach near his palatial Jersey Shore home. Unfortunately, the time of death is estimated to be during Erin's one and only consultation with him. As the last person to see him alive, Erin is now the prime suspect. While the investigation unfolds, Erin and Duane are called on to represent a mother charged with abducting her child, a hot-button case that has both private and public implications for Erin. As she battles one prosecutor who wants to see her charged with murder and another determined to send her to jail for refusing to divulge her client's location, Erin also faces a devastating family tragedy. With not only her career on the line, but also her personal relationships and her freedom, the stakes have never been higher.

Fans of The Good Wife and Anatomy of a Scandal will devour this propulsive legal thriller. New Jersey State Trooper Jon Mazer has been charged with killing Black investigative reporter Stewart Marshall in a racially charged, headline-making murder. The evidence against attorney Erin McCabe\'s new client is overwhelming. Mazer\'s argument? He\'s a gay officer being set up to take the fall in an even bigger story. Mazer swears he was a secret source for Marshall\'s exposé about the Lords of Discipline - a covert gang operating within the New Jersey State Police, notorious for enforcing their own code of rogue and racist rules. Prepared to do anything to make sure Mazer doesn\'t become another victim, Erin and her law partner, Duane Swisher, find themselves mired in a conspiracy of corruption deeper than they imagined - and far more dangerous than they feared.

Hemp, Cannabis sativa, has been called the world's most versatile plant. Materials made from hemp fiber have been discovered in tombs dating back to 7000 B.C. During the Middle Ages hemp was used to treat fevers, insomnia, and malaria. Columbus's ships had sails of hemp, and during colonial times it was universally grown because its strong fibers made superior ropes, sails, cloth, and paper. In fact, hemp was used for money in most of the Americas from 1631 until the early 1800s, and the original drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were written on hemp paper. As a food, the oil from hemp seeds has the highest percentage of essential fatty acids and the lowest percentage of saturated fats. Britain and Canada have recently lifted bans on growing industrial hemp and today it is reappearing in the marketplace in an amazing array of products: from lip-salve, jeans, salad oil, and cheese to paper products, composite fiberboard, and biomass fuel.

Beyond Boundaries (2023) is the culmination of the inaugural Dave Williamson National Short Story Competition. In 2022, The Manitoba Writers' Guild (MWG) discussed the need to update and upsize our seasonal short story contests to capture the attention of more Manitoba writers. We wanted to create a competition with broader appeal not only across the province but also across the country. Seeking to preserve and honour the history of the Guild, we chose distinguished local author Dave Williamson as our Honorary Patron. Not only was he a founding member of the Guild, but he also founded and developed the nationally acknowledged Creative Communications program at Red River College and served as Chair of the Writers' Union of Canada 1992-93.
