Published on the occasion of an exhibition held at the Beundner Kunstmuseum, Chur, May 21-Sept. 4, 2011.
In 1962, Ernst Scheidegger published his first book using his own name as an imprint. This book was the German edition of Jean Genet's essay on Alberto Giacometti. The great artist and close personal friend of Ernst Scheidegger has been subject of a number of books published by Verlag Ernst Scheidegger and Verlag Scheidegger & Spiess since. The most successful of them has been "Traces of a Friendship - Alberto Giacometti", first published in 1990 and reprinted several times. To mark the 50th anniversary of Verlag Ernst Scheidegger / Verlag Scheidegger & Spiess present a new, completely revised and expanded edition of this classic. It includes around 40 previously unpublished colour images which have recently been discovered in Ernst Scheidegger's archive. They add an intimate new chapter to this legendary book. In addition to the more accurate dating of some photographs' the essays and captions have been revised and expanded also. Text in English and German.

Fifty years after the passing of Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), this major new monograph illuminates the fundamental aspects of his oeuvre and technique in sculpture. It is based on years of extensive research and restoration work on seventy-five plasters that came to the collection of Kunsthaus Zurich as a bequest from Bruno Giacometti, Alberto's youngest brother. For Giacometti, plaster was of great importance as a material, far more than just an intermediate stage between clay model and bronze cast. It allowed him to paint or rework his objects in a vast variety of ways. A significant number of his sculptures indeed exist just in a plaster version. Featuring masterpieces from every stage of his career, this book focuses on Giacometti's artistic approach to the material nature of his chosen media, offering an insight into the creative process of one of the 20th century's greatest artists. With the plasters as a core, the selection also comprises works in other materials, such as marble, wood and bronze.

A comprehensive introduction to the work and vision of one of Mexico’s most acclaimed contemporary architects Mexican architect Alberto Kalach (born 1960) founded Taller de Arquitectura X (TAX) in 1981, and for more than 35 years the firm’s work has produced a wide range of projects: from private commissions to public buildings, from solutions for confined spaces to urban planning problems. The scale of the commission may vary, but the approach remains the same, always driven by a sense of curiosity and experimentation; TAX describes itself as somewhere between “a lab, a greenhouse and learning team.” Rather than adhering to a specific style, TAX’s constancy is methodological and conceptual, allowing the studio to be prolific, versatile and consistent simultaneously. The studio’s work has long been motivated by Kalach’s concerns about—and research into—the particular challenges and problems of his native Mexico City. To this end he has designed a minimalist house that can be built for $5,000, the largest public library in Latin America and an ambitious proposed plan to restore Mexico City’s ancient lakes (which remains unrealized). Alberto Kalach: Work is an extensive compilation of more than 100 of TAX’s built and unbuilt projects.
