Allen Ruppersberg: and Writing

Allen Ruppersberg: and Writing

Christine Burgin/Donald Young

Allen Ruppersberg (born 1944) is among the first generation of American conceptual artists. Allen Ruppersberg: and Writing presents a wide array of the artist’s text-based works from the late 1960s through to his most recent projects. A companion volume to Allen Ruppersberg Drawing, it gathers writings (and visual works containing writing) from series and projects such as Al’s Café, From the South Forty to the Bunkhouse, Great Acts of the Imagination, Le Mot Juste, Free Poetry, Obits and Studies, and excerpts from The Novel that Writes Itself and Great Speckled Bird. In his introduction to the book, poet Bill Berkson writes: “Ruppersberg’s co-exemplars are John Baldessari and Ed Ruscha … Because they are visual artists first, they present language foremost as image--color, shape, light and scale being conditioned often enough by lettering, the quality of handwriting or font, or the format of a book. The upshot is a blithe alchemical switch of sign into symbol.”

Allen Linn's Children's Bible Book: Creation and the Life of Jesus
Allen Linn has been a preacher and Bible scholar for the past 50 years. His other books are The Bible Explained, Battling Spiritual Warfare, and Creation, Salvation, and End Times, all published by Pyramid Publishers and available on amazon.com. This book was written to answer the many requests by those who follow Allen's preaching, teaching, and writing, "Please write a children's Bible book." This delightful 32-page book is the result. "I have dedicated this book to a little girl named Iris who loved Jesus and went home to be with Him in heaven. She is now happily in the arms of Jesus and has been an inspiration even to grown-ups. Her message to you is not to wait until you are grown up to live for Jesus but do it now while you are little." Allen Linn Canadian based illustrator, Emily Zieroth has been illustrating kids' books for well over seven years, ranging from fun stories, to sentimental gifts, to even teaching aids for schools. Her whimsical illustrations bring to life expressive, memorable characters that move and define a picture book story. With every story, she finds joy in knowing that it is bringing a smile to a person's face.
Allen Leeper's Letters Home, 1908-1912: An Irish-Australian at Edwardian Oxford: Volume 67
Allen Leeper, Oxford undergraduate and future Foreign Office mandarin, wrote regularly to his family in Australia from 1908 until he left university in 1912. His letters, in Balliol archives and the State Library of Victoria, record his experiences at Balliol College, among a 'golden generation' decimated by the First World War, and on his extensive travels in Europe. They give a vivid picture of a continent on the eve of war, written by someone whose background afforded a degree of objectivity. Superficially, Oxford was still 'the apotheosis of the amateur', but Leeper's middle-class friends shared a progressive and socially responsible outlook. While he enjoyed college balls and tennis parties, his letters testify to a world shaken by political crisis and social change, and provide glimpses of emerging modernity, bringing out the complexities of a critical period in British and European history.

This book examines the circumstances surrounding SS-Obergruppenführer Karl Wolff's escape from prosecution for war crimes in 1945. Wolff avoided prosecution because of his role in 'Operation Sunrise', negotiations conducted by high-ranking American, Swiss and British officials - in violation of the Casablanca agreements with the Soviet Union - for the surrender of German forces in Italy that enabled the Anglo-American forces to take Trieste. After 1945, Allied officials, amongst them Allen Dulles, in a move that later helped him ascend to the head of the CIA, shielded Wolff from prosecution to maintain secrecy about the negotiations. 'Operation Sunrise' thus relates to the early origins of the Cold War in Europe and had wide-ranging implications, even in the field of justice: new evidence suggests that the Western Allies not only failed to ensure cooperation between their respective national war crimes prosecution organizations, but in certain cases even obstructed justice by withholding evidence from the prosecution.
