In their study, the authors redeem the most ill-judged man in American history"""" and point out that it was he who took command of the Union forces and probably saved the Union cause. More than the stry of McClellan, it is the story of the nation's capital fearful of invasion, of a Washington dominated by politicians and partisans, and of military intrigue in high places."""" Highway B: Horrorfest is a collection of (short) short stories, and is the first in a 16-book cycle exploring Highway B dimension. The stories are transportive and sui generis; a blend of Sci-Fi, speculative fiction and futurism, they provide the same jolt one gets upon first reading Borges, Calvino and Kawabata. Highway B: Horrorfest is a collection of 32 (short) short stories and one longer story-the operatic title track, "Horrorfest," that functions as both a coda and a prelude. These stories explore the author's philosophy that we exist within an infinite number of diagonal dimensions that, to varying degrees, are aware of and influenced by one another. The stories take place on a plant-or within the notion of a planet asa communcal hallucinatory canvas-referred to as B. Readers are guided through simulation gulags and simulation resorts, introduced to a bestiary, brought into sex parties and brothels that might be myths and might be extinction events, and given a curated history of the tribes, artificial intelligence, religions, iconoclasts, scientific and spiritual illusions that shape this dimension. All of this is experienced under the influence of various "lunar dusts" that remove filter onto reality-while being overseen by the "satellite villas" that orbit B. Highway B: Horrorfest is the first in a 16-book cycle exploring the Highway B dimension.

Dietary Supplements

Dietary Supplements

This book provides an overview of dietary supplements including their definition, how they are manufactured and regulated, what forms they are sold in, and what the most popular products are. An effort is made to provide relevant information on the background, mechanism of action, and the clinical evidence demonstrating their efficacy or lack thereof. This book is important given the popularity of dietary supplements and the controversies around their sale and use. Negative portrayal of the industry by the media, and unscrupulous companies that make false and misleading claims about their products, fuel the controversy. At the same time, epidemiological data demonstrates that the proper use of dietary supplements could save thousands of lives and billions of dollars in health care costs. This book is an attempt to contribute an objective perspective on the matter.
Japan's Relations with Muslim Asia

Japan's Relations with Muslim Asia

This book offers a useful and extensive account of Japan’s past discoveries and present interactions with Muslim states and societies across Asia. Bearing in mind the U.S.-led global meta-narrative of Islam spoken in tandem with security and threats, this book examines how this reconciles with Japan’s self-proclaimed “values-based” approach to diplomacy across Asia in the twenty-first century. The author considers Japan’s historic conceptualization and learning of Islam, and its acute needs for access to markets and energy from Muslim-majority states in Asia. He also argues that Japan securitizes Islam in a manner distinct from Western, Russian, or Chinese securitization today, but that Japan promotes itself as a model for human security and development across an Asia inclusive of Muslim states. Japan’s approach to Islam and Muslim societies today offers much from which other great powers can learn.

The Arizona Ranger Company, modeled after the Texas Rangers, was formed in 1901 and disbanded in 1909. They were a small group of well-armed lawmen, many of them veterans of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Expert trackers and marksmen mounted on good horses, they purged the Arizona Territory of its outlaw element during their short, violent existence. Peso is fiction, but it could be the story of one of them.

Since 1943, the U.S. Navy publication Naval Aviation News has carried great stories, pictures, and art about the Navy's pioneering first pilots, airplanes, and aircraft carriers. Retired Captain B. K. Bryans has compiled these public domain works into Flying on Fabric. Flying on Fabric contains 124 true stories of those glory days, including several written by Harold "Kiddy" Karr, who flew combat with the French in WW I and became the Navy's first enlisted pilot. And there are the legends: Glenn Curtiss and Eugene Ely kick-starting it all, "Spuds" Ellyson and "Al" Cunningham pushing the boundaries, and of course, Ken Whiting, a true pioneer of naval aviation. Retired Rear Admiral J.R. Tate tells of his misadventure with an early parachute and of Admiral "Bull" Halsey-the only senior officer of the time to earn Navy wings by flying the entire syllabus. This is history presented as a set of remarkable, but true, stories of and by the men who learned to fly and fight on fabric-covered wings.

This new book contains the most comprehensive bibliography of Ethel Merman's work and materials written on this great American entertainer. She dominated the American musical stage as no other performer has, yet she appeared in only fifteen Broadway productions between 1930 and 1970. The book details the 55-year career encompassing cabaret, vaudeville, recordings, radio, televisions, films and the concert stage. This reference book presents the facts and some observations about Merman's life and career in an easily accessible format. The first section consists of a narrative biographical essay. A chronology of the major episodes of the Merman story precedes sections devoted to her work in films, the stage, radio and television, and recordings. The largest components of the book, however, is the annotated bibliography which represents the most extensive list of materials on Merman yet published. An index completes the volume.
