Anne Askew on the Kafka Machine is an affectionate and at times startling poetic account of life growing up in Ireland. The poems are earthy and lyrical against a backdrop of political events. There is a nod to Irish folklore, and to the myths that connect people to their land and which shape their sense of time and destiny. Barbara writes in a way that is succinct and witty, showing how simple yet significant human relationships are, infusing her poems with tender details while never taking her eye off the inevitable endings that are interwoven into human destiny.

A debut monograph that showcases Smith's bold experimentation, from her cutting-edge performance art to her earliest paintings, Xerox prints, drawings and sculpture A pioneer of the performance art movement of the late 1960s, Southern California–based Barbara T. Smith (born 1931) has long produced work that explores the self, sexuality, gender roles and spiritual sustenance. While her performances have received critical attention, the objects Smith has made over nearly 60 years—many for, or as a result of, performances—are less known. These include her radical Xerox works, assemblages, sculptures, artist’s books, drawings, paintings, photographs and videos. Smith’s first ever comprehensive catalog is designed by Content Object (C/O). Featuring an illustrated chronology of Smith’s life and artwork compiled by curator Jenelle Porter, the catalog also includes essays by scholars Gloria Sutton, Catherine Taft and Pietro Rigolo, who elaborate upon Smith’s work as it relates to new technologies, ecofeminism and the archive, respectively.
New Approaches to the Literary Art of Anne Brontë
This new essay collection brings together some of the top Brontë scholars working today, as well as new critical voices, to examine the many layers of Anne Brontë's fiction and other writings and to restore Brontë to her rightful place in literary history. Until very recently, Brontë's literary fate has been to live in the critical shadow of her older sisters, Charlotte and Emily, in spite of the fact that her two published novels, Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall were widely read and discussed during her lifetime. From a variety of fields-including psychology, religion, social criticism and literary tradition-the contributors to New Approaches to the Literary Art of Anne Brontë re-assess her works as those of an artist, which demand the rigorous scholarship and attention that they receive here.

Story of a Family: A Fictionalized Account of Ferdinand and Anne (McGrory) O'Hagan who left County Armagh, Ireland at the End of the Great Famine
It all begins on a Sunday morning in County Armagh, Ireland. The year is 1850, and Ferdy O'Hagan has just asked Annie McGrory to marry him. Annie says yes with all her heart, but she understands what she's getting into. She knows that Ferdy dreams of making his fortune in America, far away from the famine currently ravaging the Irish countryside. Annie agrees to become Ferdy's bride and support him no matter what. This promise carries her through the next half century as the two find love, loss, and laughter in their adopted home of New York City. Annie goes through the worst hardship a mother can face, but she never forgets her vow to stay at her husband's side. This unconditional love and devotion provide an inspiration for the couple's four children. They too set off to make their fortunes in New York City, and their adventures take them to some surprising places. Author Barbara A. Dolan makes the vibrant young couple come to life in the pages of her novel. Joining Ferdy and Annie are their four rambunctious children; their best friends, the McDermots; and a colorful cast of New York characters

From teenage love to World War II to the White House--a love affair for the ages rooted in family and service. "The First Couple of the Greatest Generation, the Bushes were bright and funny, strong and devoted, loving and enduring. Here is their story, wonderfully told by a granddaughter raised in the warm ethos of a fabled American family.” —Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer. “To begin with I was in love and I am in love so that’s not hard,” Barbara Bush told her granddaughter Ellie LeBlond Sosa on her porch in Kennebunkport, Maine. Sosa had asked for the secret to her and President George H.W. Bush's 77-year love affair that withstood World War II separation, a leap of faith into the oil fields of West Texas, the painful loss of a child, a political climb to the highest office, and after the White House, the transition back to a “normal” life. Through a lifetime’s worth of letters, photographs, and stories, Sosa and coauthor Kelly Anne Chase paint the portrait of the enduring relationship of George and Barbara Bush. Sharing intimate interviews with the Bushes and family friends, this is a never-before-seen look into the private life of a very public couple.

GONE TOO SOON, a Biography of ANNE CRAHAN WILLIAMS. Born on a Pittsford, Vermont farm in 1909, this daughter of a widowed first-generation Irishwoman with no money, managed to get herself through college at a time when only wealthy women were college educated. As the only college educated person in her community, she used her talents for the betterment of all. She was a champion of endless good causes, particularly if it meant lifting the sails of a child in need. She never traveled farther from home than New York City, but her knowledge was as broad as the world. She loved to read, loved research, and looked up every fact she didn't know. She was a woman of faith who carried her heavy cross with courage and without complaint. Published in two volumes, GONE TOO SOON, AND GONE TWO SOON BOOK II, because the many photos within exceeded the amount of pixels that could be uploaded into one volume. The first book chronicles her life from her birth to the birth of her last child in 1943. Inside are eighty-three pages of scrapbook and hand-written journals which she kept during her years at Keene Normal School. The second book, about her life in Amsden, includes a journal from the year she taught at Amsden School and many pages about her 4-H Club, THE HAPPY COOKERS. Also, the last letters she wrote to her daughter, Barbara, as she lay dying of Diabetes at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and finally at Rutland Hospita in Vermont. The author remarked, "The Crahan family were very closed-mouthed about personal matters, and offered little information about themselves. When I asked, I often heard, "Now, why would you be wantin' to know that?" That would be the end of the discussion. They strongly believed that children were to be seen and not heard. Indeed, until all the Crahans were dead, and I started doing genealogy, I didn't even know that my Grandmother had a sister in Ireland. Mother was a little more generous with her information, but her need for privacy and my busy teenage years left us with little time to get acquainted at an adult level. I was a sophomore in college, nineteen, when Mother died. She took her stories with her. This book is the culmination of three years of intense research and writing. Fortunately, she left two journals, and I had the good sense to keep the last letters she wrote. Upon the advice of a friend, I have included everything I have. Here before you is the life of Anne Crahan Williams. Anne... a brilliant scholar, a visionary, a teacher, an historian, a community leader, a good friend and neighbor, a 4-H leader, a mother, a faithful wife, a poet, a woman of courage and deep faith who was devoted to her family and lived to serve."

Revision with unchanged content. In a society where individuals and corporations have become increasingly reliant upon data and information technology (IT), many have experienced/witnessed the devastation that occurs when disaster strikes. Being well prepared is more than conforming, it is becoming necessary. How does a corporation plan ahead to anticipate such occurrences? Business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) are strategies implemented to increase the likelihood of effective recovery from major disaster. This book aims to examine whether the ranking of critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing a BC/DR program has changed from previous research, specifically subsequent to the events of September 11th, 2001. Second, this publication will attempt to further increase contribution to the academic and practitioner communities by outlining several CSFs not referenced before. Targeting academics and professionals alike with an interest in the fields of contingency planning and risk management, qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted. Using this multi-method approach, four sets of CSFs were proposed and propositions were partially or fully confirmed. Have CSFs changed since the days of mainframe dominance and the importance of data and IT? Have "people and processes" taken over from "hardware and information"? Such questions, and many more, are answered in this book.
