The natural disasters that are occurring today or that will occur in the future as a result of climate change will lead to collective mass migration. With global warming and the climate change it generates, events such as droughts, storms, floods, air and water pollution, and an increase in sea levels, will regularly occur. The natural disasters to emerge due to climate change will precipitate large-scale population movements. The concept of climate refugees was developed on the basis of these ecological problems. Based on the change in needs of individuals and societies, the field of social policy has been extended to include the issues experienced due to climate change. This study aims to address the legal status of climate refugees who migrate due to climate change and the problems caused by climate changes.

Successful interaction with many information systems depends on our ability to visually attend to the system feedback as well as to our own actions. However, at a given time, we are able to attend to only a portion of the available information. Among other constraints, what can we attend is limited by the spatial acuity of our eyes. Aware of this limitation, researchers have long pursued interfaces that decrease our dependence on visual attention during interaction. The newly proliferating sensing technologies such as eye and head tracking as well as methods for user modeling provide a novel venue for addressing this limitation: An information system can utilize users' visual attention information to change how it responds to user actions. This dissertation from the field of design distinguishes between different implications of visual attention information for interface design, and identifies visual attention as a measure of user awareness.

This book analyses how far new issues emerging as a result of the AI revolution can be accommodated under the common law and how far we may need changes available only by legislation. In doing so, the book takes into account not only doctrinal principles but also conceptual and theoretical foundations of common law. Over the next few decades, the use of AI in commercial and other transactions is likely to be one of the most disruptive influences ever to affect private law. Its impact will be wide and deep, affecting not simply the traditional areas of contract and tort but also agency, trusts, fiduciary relations and a great deal beside. The common law is known to be extremely flexible, and to some extent rules can be organically stretched and manipulated to respond to disruption of this kind. However, there is equally no doubt that such organic development is not enough on its own, and will have to be supplemented by legislative alterations and at times serious changes of thinking. The book therefore discusses how established legal doctrines and principles in private law need to be reconsidered in view of the increasing pervasiveness of intelligent machines capable of taking decisions. The analysis contained in this book provides a key contribution to ongoing debates regarding potential law reform, not only in England and Wales but also in other common law jurisdictions.

Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more.Industrial Islamism analyzes the relationship, since the end of the Cold War, between the rise of political Islamism in Muslim-majority countries and the rise of a new global "middle class" of industrial entrepreneurs. Challenging common assumptions, Utku Balaban questions the idea that political Islamism represents the antithesis of Western modernity and industrialization. On the contrary: the more enthusiastically a Muslim-majority country industrializes, the more "Islamized" its politics becomes. The book focuses on Turkey, historically the most industrialized Muslim-majority country in the world, with the most successful Islamist movement and a relatively competitive electoral system. It provides a fine-grained historical and ethnographic analysis at the local level of urban-industrial control over workers in sweatshops and working-class neighborhoods by this new global middle class, whom Balaban calls the faubourgeoisie. As the central actor behind Turkey's post–Cold War industrialization, the faubourgeoisie allies with the Islamist movement to control its workers and significantly influence national politics.

The Kurdish Model of Political Community: A Vision of National Liberation Defiant of the Nation-State undertakes a task long due in Kurdish studies: addressing common misunderstandings about and outlining theoretical implications of Kurdish politics. Hanifi Baris develops his arguments with an historical examination and finds apathy towards and a resistance to state-building in Kurdistan. Accordingly, Baris argues, this tendency to establish self-government with distaste to state-building has enabled major Kurdish movements in Turkey and Syria to develop a form of political community that constitutes a viable alternative to those based on theocratic, imperial and national sovereignty. Thus, Baris concludes, rather than being a conflict between competing nationalisms, the current Kurdish conflict in Turkey and Syria is between competing visions of political community.
