Sibling warriors, Wandarr and Randak, along with their friend, Barak, are on a race against time and temperature. Their world, T'varin, has been lost and struggling from the moment their god, T'var, was murdered by Kolonth's father, Manglor, who also perished in the battle. Now Kolonth is on the warpath, determined to avenge his father and take his place as ruler of all of T'varin. In a desperate attempt to save T'varin, the trio use faith and the power of the Orbstars to battle Kolonth's minions. Along the way, they meet friend and foe alike, while Randak faces the greatest challenge of all: the battle for his soul.
Britain, Canada and the North Pacific: Maritime Enterprise and Dominion, 1778–1914
From the time of Cook, the British and their Canadian successors were drawn to the Northwest coast of North America by possibilities of trade in sea otter and the wish to find a 'northwest passage'. The studies collected here trace how, under the influences of the Royal Navy and British statecraft, the British came to dominate the area, with expeditions sent from London, Bombay and Macau, and the Canadian quest from overland. The North West Company came to control the trade of the Columbia River, despite American opposition, and British sloop diplomacy helped overcome Russian and Spanish resistance to British aspirations. Elsewhere in the Americas, the British promoted trans-Pacific trade with China, harvested British Columbia forests, conveyed specie from western Mexico, and established the South America naval station. The flag followed trade and vice versa; empire was both formal (at Vancouver Island) and informal (as in California or Mexico). This book features individuals such as James Cook, William Bolts, Peter Pond, and Sir Alexander Mackenzie. It is also an account of the pressure that corporations placed on the British state in shaping the emerging world of trade and colonization in that distant ocean and its shores, and of the importance of sea-power in the creation of modern Canada.

By the year 2050, the population of the United States is projected to be approximately half white and half non-white. Yet the knowledge of child development within ethnic minority groups lags markedly behind knowledge of child development for white Americans, and it is increasingly clear that the rich diversity within minority groups is masked by studies focusing on between-group comparisons. Children of Color: Research, Health, and Public Policy Issues , a collection of original essays, brings together researchers from the fields of education, family and child ecology, nursing, psychology, sociology, pediatrics, anthropology, and social work to explore the rich cultural, familial, and individual diversity of all ethnic minority groups. The essays were generated by round table discussions sponsored by the Society for Research in Child Development and the Irving Harris Foundation, and they cover a broad range of topics including immigration policy, social policy, health status of immigrant infants, children and families, and educational policies related to minority children.

""Why Not Victory: A Fresh Look At American Foreign Policy"" is a book written by Barry M. Goldwater that offers a critical analysis of American foreign policy and suggests alternative approaches to achieving success in international affairs. The book argues that the United States has been too cautious in its foreign policy, often prioritizing diplomacy over military action, and that this approach has led to a lack of decisive victories in conflicts around the world. Goldwater argues that the United States should be more assertive in its foreign policy and should not be afraid to use military force to achieve its goals. He also suggests that the United States should focus on building strong alliances with other nations to promote stability and security around the world. The book is a thought-provoking critique of American foreign policy and offers a fresh perspective on how the United States can achieve success in international affairs. This is a new release of the original 1962 edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Born in the Wallingford Clinic in 1949, Barry Buxton called the town of Blowing Rock home during his childhood. The youngest of seven children, he grew up in the mountains attending Blowing Rock elementary school and looked towards the nearby college, Appalachian State University, for his undergraduate studies. Graduate school took Dr. Buxton to the midwest, however he returned to Blowing Rock in the 1980s to assume a position at the Appalachian Consortium Press. It was during this time he was approached by Judith Burns to write a complete history of Blowing Rock. Published in 1989, A Village Tapestry is the result of a three year intensive study completed by Dr. Buxton. This book is the history of a small town in the mountains; however, for Dr. Buxton it is also an extension of his story in the village in which he was born.
