INTRODUCTIONThe Dead Blue is about our environment, both our Blue Sky and our Blue Oceans that are dying due to the presence of humans on the planet. Humans have needs of housing, food, trade, energy, and transportation and we have in the short time we have been on this little floating Blue Rock sought and found each. Unfortunately, in our quest for a better life and living conditions we have exploited the planet on which we live, and in many instances destroyed portions of it. We are now up to over 6.3 Billion strong, and there are probably 10 times that population in wild and domestic animals, and each being produces methane a gas that contributes to the Greenhouse Effect that is causing Global Warming. WEATHER EVENTSWe also are by choice or accident polluting our water and air with chemicals, plastics, and all sorts of human waste, i.e. junk as we consume just about everything we touch. Think of it this way, the recent hurricanes put furniture, food, paints, household chemicals, appliances, vehicles, building materials, toys, electronics, and millions of tons of other consumables into our oceans, lakes, and rivers. Water is corrosive and each of these items will eventually dissolve and settle to the bottom of our waterways and thus, choke off plant life and oxygen to marine life, the very marine life we depend upon for our survival. POSITIVE CHANGESWe have and are changing the earth, and not always in a positive way, and we need to wake up to the facts, and make positive changes to the way we live, manufacture things and food, and transport ourselves from place to place. This short booklet hopefully may provide some ideas on how to do this, and someone with more resources than I may become wealthy solving our environmental problems as we attempt to save mankind from his or her own destruction. ENVIRONAMENTAL LAWSThis booklet covers many of the environmental laws, including actions we need to take to prevent further destruction of our water supplies and our marine life that substances a vast worldwide population. LETTERSIncluded are letters from President Obama, Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr, Allyson Schwartz, Senator Bob Casey, Amanda Starbuck, Kyle Ash, Kevin Knobloch, and Rodger Schlickeisen all people in power that believe in protecting our environments and its water supplies. WHAT CAN WE DOSection # 11 has over twenty-four proposals that we can consider for our future.
INTRODUCTION: Sales and Advertising are essential in operating a business, obtaining a job, and making money. Too many contractors and others are very good at their jobs, they may even be considered to be 'experts' at what they do, but if they cannot promote their services to others, it does not put money in their pockets. SALES vs. CONS: There are plenty of con-men out there in the world, and some make out quite well financially, but do you really want to 'cheat' people or do you want people to respect you and source you and your product? Sales is a technique about how to provide a service or product to a person that has wants and needs, but is uncertain about if you are the person that should be supplying his or her wants and needs. This guidebook will help you to help him or her eliminate that uncertainty. HISTORY OF AUTHORThe author in his youth was very good at his trade, but when he went into business for himself he realized that if no one knew about him, he was not going to succeed. The author therefore took college level classes in business management, sales techniques, advertising and marketing, and not only ran a successful small business, but hired many and eventually ran a multi-million dollar company that employed several hundred American workers. PUBLISHED AUTHOR: He has during his career started several businesses, and his knowledge of how to close a sale has helped not only him make a decent living, but also helped those that he mentored, leading to him having several professional contracting publications placed on the market by publishers like Prentice Hall, Family Handyman, Amazon, and Craftsman Books. CLOSE THE SALE: This booklet is designed for the novice, the semi-pro, and the professional contractor or person that needs tips on how to advertise and sell his services, and then 'Close the Sale' at a profit. Do you want to learn how to close the sale, or do you think you already know how? Are you costing yourself expanded profits by not knowing what the professionals know? Give it a try; it is easy reading and great information.
The Internet is full of travel tips for all sorts of business or vacation travel and if you have weeks to do your research you may actually discover things that you previously did not know or understand. Travel is an adventure; it should not be the chore that many make of it. It is fun, it is a learning experience, and it is getting to know the world on which you and yours live. The author has traveled extensively and has had some really bad trips, and some really great memorable trips. He has learned the hard way that he could be 'nickel and dimed' by vacations that he though he had fully planned and paid for, only to find out differently. He has been stranded in foreign lands with booked transportation evaporating into thin air. He has experienced the loss of baggage and toolkits, and he has ended up in cities, which he never thought he would visit.Over his 50 years of worldly travel he has indeed 'learned the ropes', a trick or two, and now retired is passing on this knowledge to you, the reader of this concise manual. So, instead of searching the Internet for weeks, sit back and enjoy an hour or two learning how to survive various travel methods. Learn how to protect yourself from scams, being harmed, paying too much, and turning what should be the adventure of your life into the disaster of your life. Enjoy...
UPDATED APRIL 2023Created a more useful Index, and added chapter on Foreign Travel INTRODUCTIONThere are dozens of Internet sites that provide an extremely limited number of tips for worry free travel and vacations and the majority of these sites are trying to sell you something that you in all probability do not need. This manual is only trying to sell you it, and nothing else. (How's that for honesty?) 80+ TIPS for SAVINGThe manual has over 80 tips that you can or should consider for making your home more secure while you are enjoying your much-needed vacation or that important business trip. GEE I FORGOT THATThe manual attempts to help you eliminate the 'Gee I forgot that, am I in trouble' thoughts that occur hours after you have hit the road or boarded that bus, train, ship, or airplane. ALARMS & COFFEE POTSThese are just two of the dozens of items you need to check and secure before you leave the house, even if for an hour to go shopping. Imagine if you left the coffee pot on for days at a time while you are enjoying your vacation. This booklet provides you with a checklist text of each item you may or should be monitoring. FOREIGN TRAVELApril 2023, Added a chapter on foreign travel and all the things you need to know in order to keep safe and out of trouble legally. COVER PICTUREThe cover picture is an example of what can happen if you do not take proper steps to secure your residence; the home in question was vacant for a few weeks and the damage was in the tens of thousands. This could have been prevented using one simple tip that is described in this manual.
Cape Cod / Plymouth / Salem - Touring Guide

UPDATED JULY 2021 - People visiting the Atlantic seaboard should consider the three islands of Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket as a place to vacation any time of the year. Although late spring, summer, and early fall are the best times, there still is plenty to do in the winter. It is just that winter attractions are different from the tourists' season attractions, and thus most travel to the cape in warmer weather when the majority of attractions are open for your pleasure. This touring guide provides over a hundred attractions to visit during the touring season, and includes not just the three islands but the three mainland attractions as well, i.e. Plymouth Rock, Salem, and Plymouth Village. The manual does not include restaurants, motels, hotels, and tours as these number hundreds and many frequently change hands and names, or go in and out of business. The attractions provided are reasonably stable and are the mainstay of each community's revenue. Enjoy.
INTRODUCTION: One must believe in something when things go wrong or go right for him or her. I have in my 81 years on this floating blue rock found that even when things appear to go very, very wrong, the Guardians have something better in mind for me, and I always come out ahead of the game and always end up where I should be. A BETTER PATH: And believe me, I have over the years tried to take different paths, only to be pushed, dragged, shoved, and pulled to the path for which I belonged; the path that gave me certain riches, be each monetary or just happiness. ARE THERE GUARDIAN ANGELS: I have seen much of the world, and have much more to see, so I trust that my Guardians will allow me to continue my travels and adventures in safety, and do so having much fun in the companionship of Iris. So friends, readers, and thinkers, did I convince you that there are Guardian Angels that are looking out for us, or am I still here against the odds solely due to luck? You be the judge
Hazel Dickens was an Appalachian singer and songwriter known for her superb musicianship, feminist country songs, union anthems, and blue-collar laments. Growing up in a West Virginia coal mining community, she drew on the mountain music and repertoire of her family and neighbors when establishing her own vibrant and powerful vocal style that is a trademark in old-time, bluegrass, and traditional country circles. Working Girl Blues presents forty original songs that Hazel Dickens wrote about coal mining, labor issues, personal relationships, and her life and family in Appalachia. Conveying sensitivity, determination, and feistiness, Dickens comments on each song, explaining how she came to write them and what they meant and continue to mean to her. Bill C. Malone's introduction traces Dickens's life, musical career, and development as a songwriter, In addition, Working Girl Blues features forty-one illustrations and a detailed discography of Dickens's commercial recordings.
Nashville's Songwriting Sweethearts

You might not know the names of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, but you know their music. Arriving in Nashville in 1950, the songwriting duo became the first full-time independent songwriters in that musical city. In the course of their long careers, they created classic hits that pushed the boundaries of country music into the realms of pop and rock. Songs like ""Bye Bye Love,"" ""All I Have to Do Is Dream,"" ""Love Hurts,"" and ""Rocky Top"" inspired young musicians everywhere. Here, for the first time, is a complete biography of Nashville's power songwriting couple. In Nashville's Songwriting Sweethearts, authors Bobbie Malone and Bill C. Malone recount how Boudleaux and Felice, married in 1945, began their partnership as itinerant musicians living in a trailer home and writing their first songs together. In Nashville the couple had to deal with racism, classism, and in Felice's case, sexism. Yet through hard work and business acumen - and a dose of good luck - they overcame these obstacles and rose to national prominence. By the late 1990s, the Bryants had written as many as 6,000 songs and had sold more than 350 million copies worldwide. They were inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972, and in 1991 they became members of the Country Music Hall of Fame - a rare occurrence for songwriters who were not also performers. In 1982 their composition ""Rocky Top"" was adopted as one of the official state songs of Tennessee. The Bryants were lucky enough to arrive in the right place at the right time. Their emergence in the early fifties coincided with the rise of Nashville as Music City, USA. And their prolific collaboration with the Everly Brothers, beginning in 1957, sparked a fusion between country and pop music that endures to this day.
For five decades, as a singer, musician, songwriter, and producer, Tim O’Brien has ceaselessly explored the vast American musical landscape. While Appalachia and Ireland eventually became facets of the defining myth surrounding him and his music, he has digested a broad array of roots styles, reshaping them to his own purposes. Award-winning biographer Bobbie Malone and premier country music historian Bill C. Malone have teamed again, this time to chronicle O’Brien’s career and trace the ascent of Hot Rize and its broadening and enrichment of musical traditions. At the beginning of that career, O’Brien moved from his native West Virginia to the Rocky Mountain West. In just a few years, he became the lead singer, mandolin and fiddle player, and principal songwriter of beloved 1980s bluegrass band Hot Rize. Seeking to move beyond bluegrass, he next went to Nashville. O’Brien’s success in navigating the shoals of America’s vast reservoir of folk musical expressions took him into the realm of what is now called Americana. The core of Tim O’Brien’s virtuosity is his abiding and energetic pursuit of the next musical adventure. As a traveler, he has ranged widely in choosing the next instrument, song, style, fellow musicians, or venue. Written with O’Brien’s full cooperation and the input of family, friends, colleagues, and critics, Traveler provides the first complete, behind-the-scenes picture of a thoroughly American self-made musical genius—the boy who grew up listening to country artists at the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree and ended up charting a new course through American music.

Heavily influenced by Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass" in the 1940s and ’50s, gospel music in the South began to shift into bluegrass gospel, a style that combines both genres. In Bluegrass Gospel: The Music Ministry of Jerry and Tammy Sullivan, anthropologist and journalist Jack Edward Bernhardt explores the lives, music, and ministry of acclaimed father-daughter bluegrass gospel performers and recording artists Jerry (1933–2014) and Tammy Sullivan (1964–2017) of southwest Alabama. Beginning in 1993, Bernhardt lived and traveled with the Sullivans as they took their music and testimony along bumpy back roads to backwoods sanctuaries from the Florida Panhandle to Mississippi, Louisiana’s bayous, Texas, Arkansas, and beyond. The author’s compelling narrative combines long-term fieldwork with extensive oral histories, archival research, photography, and tape recordings of the Sullivans’ music and testimonies in secular and sacred contexts. Bernhardt describes in vivid detail the challenges of life on the road through unforeseen circumstances and the financial uncertainty of performing for pass-the-collection-basket "love offerings," while remaining committed to doing the work they felt called to do. In an afterword by Marty Stuart, Jerry’s friend and cowriter of the 1995 Grammy-nominated "At the Feet of God," Stuart recounts his experiences playing mandolin with the Sullivan Family on the "Brush Arbor Trail" as a talented, wide-eyed twelve-year-old. In the penultimate chapter, Bernhardt accompanies Tammy’s widower, Jonathan Causey, and their son, Jon Gideon, to churches along the same gospel trail blazed by Jerry and Tammy. With their own music ministry, the Causeys continue the legacy of song and testimony the Sullivans pursued for thirty-five years. Ultimately, Bernhardt reflects on how his relationship with the Sullivans led to friendship and mutual respect for cultural differences that endure through time. The result is an intimate portrayal of life, faith, and family-based music ministry in the South today as in the past.

For almost five decades, the band known as Riders in the Sky (“America’s Favorite Cowboys”) has entertained and delighted audiences in Nashville and throughout the United States with their mixture of quirky sendups of the silver-screen Western and their “faultless, evocative instrumentation, perfect harmony, fantasy, and humor.” Remarkably, the original Riders—Ranger Doug Green (“The Idol of American Youth”), “Too Slim” (or alternately, “Side Meat”), Fred Labour, and Woody Paul Chrisman (“The King of Cowboy Fiddlers”)—have continued to perform together since their first gig on a cold, rainy night in November 1978. Occasionally described as “the most educated band in country music” because of Woody Paul’s PhD in plasma physics from MIT, Doug’s MA in literature from Vanderbilt, and Too Slim’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Michigan, the group has been a popular fixture at the Grand Ole Opry since 1982. Master accordionist Joey Miskulin, a “road scholar” since age 13, joined the band during its second decade and was with them when they won Grammy awards for their work with Disney-Pixar for the albums that accompanied Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. Their appeal to multigenerational audiences continues unabated. Riders in the Sky: Romancing the West with Music and Humor will entertain and inform both the group’s legions of dedicated fans and aficionados of country and western music.

When the Y2K crisis winds down, COBOL programmers will look for new ways to apply their skills. Drawing upon the numerous similarities between COBOL and Java, this book teaches Java to professional COBOL programmers. To simplify the transition, the authors describe the features and syntax of Java while contrasting them with their parallels in COBOL. The book is completely modular, allowing a reader to skip back and forth from one chapter to another. With each example, the authors present a COBOL program that performs a certain function and develop a Java program that accomplishes the same task. Sample programs are available from a website, and an accompanying CD-ROM contains all of the Java programs developed in the book. It also contains a TrialWare copy of Symantec’s Visual Café Database Edition 3.0. A running case study evolves with increased functionality as new material is presented in subsequent chapters.
