Is everything you "know" about the Bible Wrong? To be honest, probably not But like most people, it's easy to overlook the names of places in Bible lands like "Bashan", "Caesarea Philippi" or "Mount Hermon". It's especially easy to overlook key words in the original text like "Rephaim" and "Elohim" because our English translations often don't bother to translate them in a way that preserves their full meaning. (In reality, it's probably impossible to translate many of these terms in ways that capture the entire range of meaning of these terms.)And there's something else at work that may keep us from understanding the Bible on the Bible's terms... many times we do not understand that the Old Testament saints and early Christians themselves had a "supernatural view of the Bible" we don't. They considered the events of Genesis 6:1-4 in a way very differently than modern Christians, especially "Christian Commentators". When this passage is understood. in a supernatural light, it helps make sense of the Bible in a way "picking and choosing" interpretations simply don't. Add all these problems up, and we can miss much of the meaning of the Bible. It's understandable. Our attitude is "let's just get on with the action and the words "But the words and actions of Jesus CAN take on a significantly bold and powerful meaning when we finally understand the geographical background and related spiritual history of key places and concepts. This is especially true in regard to the topic of Jesus and Spiritual Warfare Once we see where Jesus asks his disciples key questions... and where key events transpire... and understand the deep spiritual history of those places, suddenly Jesus becomes more precious than ever and the mission of the church becomes more clear than ever before Check it out for yourself You're guaranteed to be amazed
This fascinating, interactive autobiography presents Chuck Close’s story, his art, and a discussion of the many processes he uses in the studio. The question-and-answer format is based on real kids’ inquiries about Close’s life and work, and his answers to them. Close, who is wheelchair-bound and paints with a brush strapped to his arm, discusses the severe dyslexia and face blindness he has struggled with since childhood, as well as a collapsed spinal artery that left him nearly paralyzed at the age of 48. An engaging feature of the book is a mix-and-match Chuck Close self-portrait section. This hands-on component encourages the reader to create new and interesting combinations of Close’s techniques and images. The book also includes an illustrated chronology of Close’s life, a list of museums where his work can be seen, and an index. Offering a world full of traumatized characters trapped in a consumerist society where men, women, sex and gender have become unstable commodities, Chuck Palahniuk has become one of the most controversial of contemporary novelists. This book is the first guide to bring together scholars from a full range of critical perspectives to explore three of Palahniuk's most widely-studied novels: Fight Club, Invisible Monsters and Choke. Examining these works in light of such key critical themes as violence, masculinity, postmodern aesthetics and trauma, the book also explores the ethical dimension of Palahniuk's work that is often lost in the heat of the controversies surrounding his books. Together with annotated guides to further reading, Chuck Palahniuk also includes section introductions surveying the contexts and reception of each novel, making this an essential guide for students and scholars of contemporary literature.

"CHUCK" VS. THE BUSINESS WORLD: BUSINESS TIPS ON TV by Ray Keating finds career advice, and lessons on managing or owning a business in a fun, fascinating and unexpected place, that is, in the hit television show "Chuck." Keating shows that TV spies and nerds can provide insights and guidelines on managing workers, customer relations, leadership, technology, hiring and firing people, and balancing work and personal life. Larry Kudlow, host of CNBC's "The Kudlow Report," says, "Ray Keating has taken the very funny television series 'Chuck, ' and derived some valuable lessons and insights for your career and business." John Kominicki, publisher of Long Island Business News, adds, "Where most of us see a comic spy drama, Keating sees the opportunity for a Wharton-quality tutorial on business. He's not just outside the box, he's outside the cardboard." Karen Kerrigan, President and CEO of the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council, observes, "Business tips can be found all around us, and Keating's inspiration for sharing them via 'Chuck' is effective and entertaining. Business owners and their workforce will find wisdom in this book."Jim Blasingame, host of the Small Business Advocate Show, explains, "Obviously, my friend, Ray Keating, has too much free time. The good news is that Ray has lurched uncontrollably to producing the most relevant, instructive and entertaining book ever written for both small business owners and spies. If you're either of these - or want to be - don't miss this. Who knows? You might even find a new calling."Barbara Weltman talking about "CHUCK" VS. THE BUSINESS WORLD: BUSINESS TIPS ON TV on her Build Your Business radio show: "There are so many good lessons here... It's a really easy read. It's not a typical academic book where you have to force yourself to go through it. This is a quick and enjoyable read."If you love "Chuck," you'll love this book. And even if you don't watch "Chuck," the book lays out clear examples and quick lessons from which you can reap rewards.
With the success of Fight Club, his novel-turned-movie, Chuck Palahniuk has become noticed for accurately capturing the exploitation of power in America in the 21st century. With cynicism and skepticism, he satirizes the manipulative aspects of ideologies and beliefs pushing society's understanding of the norm. In this work, Palahniuk's characters are analyzed as people who rebel against the systems in control. Mikhail Bakhtin's theory is applied to explain Palahniuk's application of the comic grotesque; theories from Louis Althusser and Slavoj Žižek help reveal aspects of ideology in Palahniuk's writing.
