Routledge Revivals: Henry Fielding and the Augustan Ideal Under Stress (1972)
Originally published in 1972, Henry Fielding and the Augustan Ideal Under Stress, focuses upon the various disruptive forces in the literary culture of the Augustan period – upon ‘Nature’s Dance of Death’. His discussion centres on aspects of Fielding’s writing in relation to Augustan culture and civilization. He also relates the works of such Augustans as Pope, Swift and Smollett, as well as some twentieth century writings, to his overall theme. He treats, among other topics the crises in stylistic ‘urbanity’ and in the ‘mock-heroic’ styles of this historically and artistically fascinating period.

Welcome to a world where equations sing, history whispers tales, and molecules dance in verse This book is a unique exploration of academic fields through the lens of poetry. Within these pages, you'll find poems that paint vivid pictures of scientific discoveries, historical moments, and the intricacies of human thought. You will delve into the heart of subjects like, social sciences and humanities, philosophy, art, business and management, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, engineering, and mathematics. In addition, you will find poems that resume the life of the greatest scientists of all time, like Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, Charles Darwin and many more. So, prepare to embark on a journey where knowledge meets creativity, and where the pursuit of understanding takes on a lyrical form. Let these poems inspire you, challenge you, and perhaps even spark your own exploration of a particular academic field. We invite you to open your mind, embrace the rhythm of language, and discover the hidden poetry within every discipline.
Mechanics of Dislocation Fields

Mechanics of Dislocation Fields

Accompanying the present trend of engineering systems aimed at size reduction and design at microscopic/nanoscopic length scales, Mechanics of Dislocation Fields describes the self-organization of dislocation ensembles at small length scales and its consequences on the overall mechanical behavior of crystalline bodies. The account of the fundamental interactions between the dislocations and other microscopic crystal defects is based on the use of smooth field quantities and powerful tools from the mathematical theory of partial differential equations. The resulting theory is able to describe the emergence of dislocation microstructures and their evolution along complex loading paths. Scale transitions are performed between the properties of the dislocation ensembles and the mechanical behavior of the body. Several variants of this overall scheme are examined which focus on dislocation cores, electromechanical interactions of dislocations with electric charges in dielectric materials, the intermittency and scale-invariance of dislocation activity, grain-to-grain interactions in polycrystals, size effects on mechanical behavior and path dependence of strain hardening.

“The production quality is very high; even the smallest symbols are easily readable, and some papers are reproduced in color. The clarity of the exposition, the wide range of topics, and the logic of the presentation make this a valuable teaching reference. This book is highly recommended for physicists and students working on atoms in intense laser fields, laser cooling and trapping and Bose-Einstein condensation.”Optics & Photonics NewsThis invaluable book presents papers written during the last 40 years by Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and his collaborators on various physical effects which can be observed on atoms interacting with electromagnetic fields. It consists of a personal selection of review papers, lectures given at schools, as well as original experimental and theoretical papers. Emphasis is placed on physical mechanisms and on general approaches (such as the dressed atom approach) having a wide range of applications. Various topics are discussed, such as atoms in intense laser fields, photon correlations, quantum jumps, radiative corrections, laser cooling and trapping, Bose-Einstein condensation. In this new edition, about 200-page of new material has been added.

The Kleiner Feldberg Cloud Experiment 1990
The eleven papers presented in this issue are intended to provide a comprehen sive description of the cloud systems studied during the Kleiner Feldberg experi ment. The first paper provides a general overview of the experiment and a summa ry of the main accomplishments. The following three papers then describe the cloud systems from the meteorological, microphysical and chemical perspectives. Another four papers address more specifically the issues of incorporation of aerosol particles and trace gases within cloud droplets. A synthesis of the Kleiner Feldberg cloud properties and a comparison with experimental data is then provided by a paper which models the airflow and cloud mycrophysics and chemistry for selected cloud episodes during the experiment. Deposition of trace substances via cloud interception with the vegetation is the subject of the next paper, which integrates experimental data in a deposition resistance model. A technical paper at the end of the issue reports on a newly developed holographic technique to measure cloud droplet size distribution, which was tested for the first time during this experiment. The collaborative nature of the work accomplished within GCE is emphasized by the large authorship of most papers presented in this issue. This should not be regarded with surprise, but rather as an indication of the interdisciplinary efforts of the GCE scientific community for the accomplishment of this study. For a long time, it has been the declared aim in many countries to fight tax evasion in all its different manifestations, from undeclared work by cleaners and gardeners in private households to tax evasion in the international capital markets. This study focuses on the phenomenon of undeclared work and the case of Germany, presenting the most comprehensive analysis of tax non-compliance for Germany to date, based on surveys conducted by the Rockwool Foundation.Theoretically, the analysis starts from the standard model of tax evasion as being influenced by the subjectively perceived extent of deterrence, the perceived marginal tax burden and social norms. Evidence is provided on the impact of deterrence and other factors on tax non-compliance, and several descriptive statistics are presented to better illustrate the natrure of undeclared work with regard to industry, region, education and other socio-economic characteristics.
