The gang have been hunting for Isabella for weeks, but there's no sign of her in the Unlands. They can't even find the portal through to Annwn. And Vivi hasn't told the rest of the gang about what happened with the villainous Arawn appearing in her dream. She definitely hasn't mentioned how scared she is to fall asleep, in case he reappears. Even Nimue has been quiet. As much as Vivi wants to hope that it's all over, part of her knows it isn't... On Dara's birthday, an invitation comes from their cousin Meredith; come stay on Bardsey Island for a week, stay at their cottage, and celebrate Halloween. And bring all your friends! Vivi can't refuse an opportunity to go back to Wales, and her friends are immediately excited for star-spotting, foraging, hiking, and just general adventuring. Little do they know, they are about to be thrown into a huge high-stakes treasure hunt, with the fate of the world resting on them (again). And Vivi's feeling that Arawn is just waiting to reappear is only growing stronger... Praise for Vivi Conway and the Sword of Legend: An edge-of-your-seat adventure underpinned by rich mythology and a brave heroine that will capture your heart. Hux has spun a classic tale for the ages.' Laura Noakes, author of Cosima Unfortunate Steals A Star 'A remarkable, heart-pounding, reinvigorated story of the myths you think you know - with characters you can't forget and prose you will read again and again. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.' Natasha Hastings, author of The Miraculous Sweetmakers: The Frost Fair

Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition, the book presents the evolution of the pictorial work of Anna Conway (Durango, Colorado, 1973) from her debut up to the last works of 2016. It is the first monograph dedicated to the American painter. Conway's approach to representation - at the same time precise, methodical, analytical and intuitive - involves the depiction of scenes that blend close observation and pure imagination together, along with an almost narrative attention to the place, the moment and the characters. The book features images of the paintings specifically created for the exhibition together with an extensive iconographic summary of her earlier works, as well as a critical contribution by Mario Diacono and an interview with the artist by American critic Bob Nickas, who has been following Conway's research for a long time. Text in English and Italian.

John Donne and the Conway Papers

John Donne and the Conway Papers

How and why did men and women send handwritten poetry, drama, and literary prose to their friends and social superiors in the seventeenth century-and what were the consequences of these communications? Within this culture of manuscript publication, why did John Donne (1572-1631), an author who attempted to limit the circulation of his works, become the most transcribed writer of his age? John Donne and the Conway Papers examines these questions in great detail. Daniel Starza Smith investigates a seventeenth-century archive, the Conway Papers, in order to explain the relationship between Donne and the archive's owners, the Conway family. Drawing on an enormous amount of primary material, he situates Donne's writings within the broader workings of manuscript circulation, from the moment a scribe identified a source text, through the process of transcription and onwards to the social ramifications of this literary circulation. John Donne and the Conway Papers offers the first full-length analysis of three generations of the Conway family between Elizabeth's succession and the end of the Civil War, explaining what the Conway Papers are and how they were amassed, how the archive came to contain a concentration of manuscript poetry by Donne, and what the significance of this fact is, in terms of seventeenth-century politics, patronage, and culture. Answers to these questions cast new light on the early transmission of Donne's verse and prose. Throughout, John Donne and the Conway Papers emphasizes the importance of Donne's closest friends and earliest readers--such as George Garrard, Rowland Woodward, and Sir Henry Goodere--in the dissemination of his poetry. Goodere in particular emerges as a key agent in the early circulation of Donne's verse, and this book offers the first sustained account of his literary activities.

Explores the work of Anne Conway, whose philosophy of the natural world incorporated a spiritual vision.Carol Wayne White introduces readers to the religious naturalism of the seventeenth-century English philosopher Anne Conway, whose work offers an analysis of the mechanical conception of nature. White shows how Conway's mystical cosmology provides an alternative to the dominant mechanistic models advanced by her leading male contemporaries, especially Descartes. She connects these philosophic impulses to Conway's late religious conversion to Quakerism, arguing that Quaker practical mysticism and its emphasis on equality within the natural order resonate with Conway's philosophic naturalism. White also explores Conway's continuity with and departure from current veins of religious naturalism, which entail an aesthetic ethical mandate seeking the increase of goodness in the world.
