This chapter by chapter exposition of the book of Daniel begins in approximately 605BC with the first invasion of Judah by the cruel and fearsome Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Because of Daniel's faithfulness, God intervenes on his behalf, providing information that no human could possibly know. Now blessed with unusual wisdom and the gift of dream interpretation, Daniel rises from a Jewish captive to an important position of influence that spans five kings and two empires. In his later years, Daniel is visited by the archangel Gabriel who reveals to him a part of God's eternal plan pertaining to the future of idolatrous Israel. This eternal plan involved the rise of three more empires and a perversely self-willed ruler known in scripture as "the little horn." This ruler, whom history identifies as Antiochus Epiphanes, is a type of the coming antichrist. Examining his character and actions will aid in the recognition of the future antichrist.

Open Door Church has served as a homeless shelter for more than a decade, but when their pastor dies unexpectedly, it's up to Galen and Maggie to take up the reins and keep the ministry going, which won't be easy, as newcomers seem intent on tearing it down. And then there's young Daniel, who seems to be working miracles in their midst, which of course, isn't possible. Or is it? (This is Book 2 of the Shelter Trilogy. All three books are available in large print.)

"A tremendous resource for those wanting to study and teach the Bible with an understanding of how the gospel is woven throughout Scripture." —Bryan Chapell, Pastor, Grace Presbyterian Church The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on every page of the Bible. The book of Daniel has all the makings of a great story: memorable characters, cliff-hanging moments, and incredible visions. Yet we miss the point if we pay more attention to Daniel’s story than to Daniel’s God. In this helpful study, readers will see how this fascinating biblical book ultimately points to the sovereign Lord of history, who rules over all earthly kingdoms and whose plans cannot be thwarted.

The book of Daniel demonstrates the glorious wisdom and unmatched power of God at work in his people. It shows that in spite of difficulties, confusion, and persecution, God is in control and will deliver his people as he has promised. Through dreams and visions given to Daniel—not fully understood in their own day—God reveals that his sovereign rule will continue until the end, when all of his purposes will be fulfilled. Only through the light of the New Testament can we understand these mysteries given to Daniel, some of which aren’t made clear until the final pages of Scripture. With faithful exposition, pastor Rodney Stortz walks readers through this prophetic book verse by verse, explaining Daniel’s historical context and offering practical applications. He focuses on the promises given to the faithful, the sovereignty of God, and the coming Messiah and Antichrist—shedding light on Daniel’s prophecies by looking at the New Testament teaching on the final kingdom that will never pass away. Part of the Preaching the Word series.

6 ready-to-use lessons on the biblical book of Daniel. Why discussion? Consider this verse: Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:15-16 (NIV)First, Paul says we grow by speaking. This is surprising to me. I would have expected this verse to say, "Hearing the truth, we will grow..." That is not what he says. Paul says we grow by speaking the truth in love.We are changed more by what we say than by what we hear. Hearing is important. "Faith comes by hearing..." (Romans 10.17) But hearing is not as important as speaking. Jesus said it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles us. (Matthew 15.18) James taught that the words we speak are like the rudder of a ship. I think if he were speaking today, he would say that the words we speak are like the steering wheel of our lives.People who speak words of gratitude develop grateful hearts. People who speak words of love become more loving. People who grumble and complain become grumpier and more negative. We are changed more by what we say than by what we hear. These lessons will save you time as well as provide deep insights from some of the great writers and thinkers from today and generations past. I also include quotes from the same commentaries that your pastor uses in sermon preparation. Ultimately, the goal is to create conversations that change lives.

This keepsake edition of The Book of Daniel was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years. The message of The Book of Daniel Book is that, just as the God of Israel saved Daniel and his friends from their enemies, so he would save all Israel in their present oppression. The book is filled with monsters, angels, and numerology, drawn from a wide range of sources. Christian interpreters have always viewed these as predicting events in the New Testament.
