In search of fame and fortune, Mahdakis, an offbeat sixteen-year-old poet/musician, runs away from his home in the dismal rural settings of The Mountains, and catapults himself towards the bright lights and Promised Land of Philadelphia. But a funny thing or two happen on the way to The City of Brotherly Love; not the least of which being a five-year detour into Norford, a large culturally and financially diverse suburbanite city in northern Delaware. It is here, in a purgatory of his own creation, he must learn to successfully walk the fine line of sanity and madness, lest he become nothing more than another tragic teenage statistic; a feat only compounded by incessant wrestling with the demons of his murderous past. As the assortment of characters he encounters become increasingly more bizarre, Mahdakis accepts the possibility that these B.U.R.N.O.U.T.S. he relents to calling friends, may represent nothing more than pinball bumpers, deterring or directing his one shot at ultimate glory and musical success. What he doesn't count on is the ferocious passion, stuffed inside each and every one of these people, like a jack-in-the-box waiting to be sprung free, and how that passion would forever scar and bless him, simultaneously. It is while running through the maze of these friendships, towards tomorrow's dream, and from yesterday's sorrow, that Mahdakis discovers who he really is, who he really was, and how there is no escaping either.

In the last two decades, there has been a resurgence of interest in the value of the Old Testament for modern ethical questions. John Rogerson is a scholar who has dedicated much of his academic life to probing the possibility of the abiding significance of the Old Testament for moral issues today. This volume brings together for the first time many of his contributions - both published and unpublished - to Old Testament social ethics.Rogerson's essays cover a wide range of modern social issues including: using the Bible in the debate about abortion; the Old Testament and nuclear disarmament; and the use of the Old Testament with reference to work and unemployment. Several essays examine the contribution of philosophical ethics to the study of Old Testament. Rogerson also offers a brief account of his pilgrimage in Old Testament ethics and outlines the basic framework of his perspective. The introduction by the editor provides a summary and survey of Rogerson's work. This is volume 405 in the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament Supplement series.

In September of 1956 seven special children were born in the small west Texas town of Eastland. One night a spectacular event takes place at the nursery which endows each of the seven with a special gift. These gifts range from Rebecca's clairvoyance to Timothy's musical prowess. Time reveals that with their gift each child also received a small part of one powerful entity which disseminated as it crossed the barriers of space and time. Another such entity came to rest in the body of Nurse Verna Calloway. At first the nurse is committed to an insane asylum, and it takes the creature inside of her years to adjust to the new reality. But finally she does, though it is after the children have all grown up and all but three have moved away. Verna reaches out to Derek Lowrance, the bad seed of the seven. Derek's gift allows him to feel the rush of power at the death of his victims. Over the years he has killed carefully, avoiding capture but not suspicion. It is easy for the nurse to convince Derek to kill one of the seven gifted. When he does this, he experiences a rush like never before and feels the transformation take place within him. The story follows Derek and Verna Calloway in their quest to reunify the second entity through the death of the remaining gifted. It also spends time with two of the gifted, as they discover what is happening and join forces to try and stop it.

These 8 horror stories are set in the late 80's. The victims (or heroes) can't be rescued by a cell phone call, a text, or a post on social media. And yes, smoking was allowed on planes (it's in "Final Descent").The terror is real, nonetheless.Enjoy.

The American Claimant is an 1892 novel by American humorist and writer Mark Twain. Twain wrote the novel with the help of phonographic dictation, the first author (according to Twain himself) to do so.This was also (according to Twain) an attempt to write a book without mention of the weather, the first of its kind in fictitious literature. Indeed, all the weather is contained in an appendix, at the back of the book, which the reader is encouraged to turn to from time to time. *Plot* The American Claimant is a comedy of mistaken identities and multiple role switches. Its cast of characters include an American enamored of British hereditary aristocracy and a British earl entranced by American democracy.... Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 - April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, entrepreneur, publisher and lecturer. Among his novels are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. After an apprenticeship with a printer, Twain worked as a typesetter and contributed articles to the newspaper of his older brother, Orion Clemens. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. In 1865, his humorous story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" was published, based on a story he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention, and was even translated into classic Greek. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.Though Twain earned a great deal of money from his writings and lectures, he invested in ventures that lost a great deal of money, notably the Paige Compositor, a mechanical typesetter, which failed because of its complexity and imprecision. In the wake of these financial setbacks, he filed for protection from his creditors via bankruptcy, and with the help of Henry Huttleston Rogers eventually overcame his financial troubles. Twain chose to pay all his pre-bankruptcy creditors in full, though he had no legal responsibility to do so.... Hal Hurst(1865-1938) was an English painter, etcher, miniaturist, illustrator and founding member of the Royal Miniature Society.... Daniel Carter "Uncle Dan" Beard (June 21, 1850 - June 11, 1941) was an American illustrator, author, youth leader, and social reformer who founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905, which Beard later merged with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)

Daniel Revisited makes the case that the ancient book of Daniel reveals four specific events to occur in the Middle East in the end times prior to the Tribulation. This new look at old assumptions about prophecy and plain reading of Scripture combines a comprehensive study of relevant history with the fresh perspective of today’s current events. Not only does it show that the Antichrist will be Muslim, it also identifies four events the author calls Signposts which will occur in a series leading right up to the Tribulation. The first event involving Iraq has already occurred. The second of the four events will be the invasion of the whole Middle East by Iran. The fourth event will witness the Antichrist's emergence.
