This book provides an in-depth look at our Journey in this life and how to better prepare ourselves for the unexpected events and emergencies we may experience along the way. It is dedicated to the countless dozens of dear friends and those professionals, who helped provide the content for this book. It defines the incredible role of our caregivers during a life-threatening emergency or long-term illness, and it gives us valuable insight to all those important papers we all will need at different times during our own Journey through life. Inspired and written from the Author's own personal journey, from growing up in the mountains of Kentucky, at an "Age of Innocence", later, being drafted into a war that no one wanted, and the day the nightmare began, when his doctors had given him only four hours to live. In these pages, you'll find God's Love and Miracles in one man's life. You'll also find a lot of humor, and you should find a refreshing, common-sense approach at safeguarding your own valuables, and protecting your loved ones. You'll learn about wills, living wills, power of attorney, as well as documenting your own life's journey. If you take care of all these things today, and if you decide you're not going to put them off any longer, you'll not only feel good about yourself, but you can finally get on with enjoying life. You'll feel good about yourself, knowing you have taken care of your family and loved ones. And, you'll also discover in your treasure hunt, those dearest possessions, that over time, you may have forgotten all about, that you still have, safely hidden away somewhere. Or, maybe, just maybe, you'll find a precious rare antique stuffed away in some forgotten corner. The important thing is, to realize that you must take care of these things and do it today

The Incarnation and the Church's Witness

The Incarnation and the Church's Witness

Darrell L Guder

For several years, argues Guder, contemporary Christian churches have often thought of their mission efforts as simply one more program of the church. In addition, outsiders have rightly criticized Christian mission efforts as exercises in cultural imperialism. In this provocative book, Guder argues that the incarnation of God in Jesus provides the foundational model for the practice of Christian missions in the world today. The incarnation is the culmination of God's activity and presence in the world, says Guder, for in this event God initiates the healing of a broken world. Using literary, historical, and social approaches to scripture, Guder claims the contemporary church should return to an ""incarnational mission"" in which the practice of Christian witness is ""shaped by the life, ministry, suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus."" Darrell L. Guder is the Henry Winters Luce Professor of Missional and Ecumenical Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and the author of 'Be My Witness: The Church's Mission, Message, and Messengers'.

'The Rabbi' is a biography of Jesus Christ intended to present a more accurate depiction of His life than what is commonly believed by church laity in our times. Human as we are, each nationality and culture have a tendency toward making Jesus in their own image and after their own culture rather than seeing Him for who He truly was and understanding the culture in which He lived. Those who have the most accurate picture of who Jesus was and what He was truly like during His earthly incarnation are Bible scholars who search more deeply into His life than does the average church lay person. However, these more accurate understandings of Christ are mostly presented in scholarly works which only fellow scholars and seminarians can best comprehend. This again leaves the average church person out in the cold when it comes to getting a more accurate picture of the Messiah.'The Rabbi' will greatly help the church laity's understanding of Jesus Christ, as well as the people, places and events surrounding His life. It is presented in novel form which is easily readable, and includes the gospel record together with extra-Biblical 'gap fillers' that are more likely scenarios in the progression of Christ's life than are the many traditional but inaccurate beliefs. In some cases where no Biblical or historical documentation was available, speculation has been unavoidable and in other cases where there is disagreement among scholars, the seeming best scenario has been applied. What is sure is the average church laity member will find, probably to their surprise, many of their long held beliefs about the life of Christ are quite simply erroneous. This is largely due to periodic Biblical mistranslations from the original Greek to the English language, in addition to translators not selecting more accurate meanings of certain Greek words than what appears in English language Bibles. The story also includes full use of Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Aramaic names of persons and places within the gospels rather than their English translation counterparts. Though not a scholarly work itself, the story does offer gleanings from the writings of several Bible scholars, historians and commentators from around the world. Its novel format expresses probable attitudes and emotions of its characters not otherwise conveyed in the English language gospels, but does absolutely no violence whatsoever to the scripture. This is an enjoyable, inspiring, as well as insightfully educational book that, among its presentation of many little known facts among church laity, will draw the hearts of it's readers closer to the wonderful Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.

There is a place for God within the heart of every man and woman. Many have tried to fill that place with money or other things. I know I have. I have tried to fill that place with drugs, women, money, and work- just to name a few, but soon, they all got old. What I have come to realize is, there is only one thing that satisfies the hunger in our hearts, and that is God. It was when I came to know Him- that is when I was truly satisfied. What I tried to explain in this book is that God has placed something beautiful inside of you that you don't know is there. You must come back to God (your Creator) to discover the beautiful gift within, then, and only then, will you find the joy and fulfillment. God has something he wants to tell you, but you must seek him to find it. Many have started to look but didn't stick with it and gave up; don't give up, be 1 of the 10 that return to say, "Thank you."My goal is to encourage you to evaluate your life. Go after what it is you have been dreaming about; it is not too late.

Given the political climate of today, and the result of our recent presidential election, it's imperative that those of us of the minority population establish skill-sets that will enable us to survive under a supremacist regime. The deconstruction of the African-American nuclear family is at epic proportions, in large part to the weakening of our focus on self-actuality in the ever-changing racial landscape. There is really no tried or true way for the average African-American to successfully traverse the landmines of the dominant society, moreover, overt white supremacy. In much the same way as a military unit accomplishes and succeeds in their missions, the nuclear black family can employ the same risk management techniques to ensure the mitigation of danger to it and its progeny. This book is a guideline to those who seek to mitigate or lesson the effects of supremacist ideologies and in turn, begin the healing process in restoring the nuclear black family. The reasoning for this particular subject is there is no clear or defined plan of attack as it pertains to the burgeoning new white supremacist ideologies and techniques. The mantras of the civil rights movement have lost their force, in that, they have become watered down. The hackneyed slogans and "equality" complacency, has weakened most of our resolve to fortify ourselves against the innovative kind of racism we are now seeing. Though we all want to march to the drum of "egalitarianism", we are in turn losing the sense of identity that other racial groups do not suffer from. This loss of identity is in large part to our need to assimilate with no real scheme to ensure that our family and ethnic bonds are preserved. The average African-American can benefit from this manuscript in that there are basic skill sets that can be identified on an individualized and personal level that will mitigate the detriments of white supremacy and oppression. The clear, concise and unambiguous model stated within this book will give each person reading it entry-level access into how to begin to insulate themselves from supremacist ideologies and how to identify other risk criteria that could be detrimental to their progeny and lifestyle. SOUR PILL - A GUIDE TO SURVIVING IN THE DOMINANT SOCIETY - lays out effective and pertinent risk assessment, risk management and risk mitigation techniques to better survive in a supremacist society. SOUR PILL defines easily executable plans and operational techniques to equip our citizenry in preserving the nuclear African-American family.

Somewhere in the mists of time, between history and hagiography, stands the great evangelist and missionary St. Patrick. Raised a ""cultural Christian,"" Patrick's encounter with God during captivity in Ireland transformed his life and the history of a people. Freedom from slavery, and a return home to Britain, produced the divine summons--Vox Hibernia--to return to Ireland and the place of captivity in order to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christian witness in twenty-first-century Vancouver, Seattle, or Portland is a world away from fifth-century Armagh, Slane, or Cashel. Yet, the great evangelist to pre-Christian peoples of Hibernia has much to teach us as we seek to engage our secular, post-Christian context. There is wisdom in the missional leadership of the one we call St. Patrick that goes well beyond tales of snakes and shamrocks. How might Patrick's mission experience with pre-Christian peoples direct our contemporary missional encounter with post-Christian peoples? Come explore the story of the shepherd slave turned shepherd of souls and discover that there is power still in the legacy of Patrick, when yoked with the Spirit-filled presence and purpose of the risen Christ. ""Canadian Ross Lockhart has quickly become one of our foremost interpreters of the church in mission to God's world. In this engaging, fast-paced book, Ross not only draws upon the ancient missional wisdom of missionary St. Patrick, but also gives contemporary church leaders the insights and skills we need to venture forth into God's mission today. Here is missional theology enacted and put in motion by wise, theologically informed, skilled leadership."" --Will Willimon, Duke Divinity School ""With deft analogical imagination, Lockhart retrieves crucial insights from the missional practice of St. Patrick for twenty-first-century secular society. Finally, a treatment of missional practice willing to be at odds with our context rather than treat it as fate. This book is a treasure."" --Richard R. Topping, Vancouver School of Theology ""There are many scholars who do history, others who do theology, others who do missions. Ross Lockhart braids these three together and the resultant chord is strong indeed. I not only learned more history and more about God, I put the book down encouraged to take part in God's mission of renewing the cosmos. A fantastic book."" --Jason Byassee, Vancouver School of Theology ""Many people are looking back to Celtic Christianity as a guide for Christian living today. With wit, charm, and wisdom, Ross Lockhart weaves together the stories of St. Patrick and the story of Cascadia. The result is the best retrieval of Celtic Christian wisdom for transforming missional leadership . . . It will lift your spirit, deepen your convictions, and equip you to follow Jesus in the culture of Cascadia and beyond."" --Jonathan R. Wilson, Regent College ""Here is an invitation to encounter the spiritual journey of St. Patrick as a resource for our present-day challenges. Lockhart helps us to experience this ancient father of the church as a very modern companion. Patrick's mission is an illuminating model for faithful witness in daunting contexts, both then and now."" --Darrell Guder, from the Foreword ROSS A. LOCKHART is Associate Professor at St. Andrew's Hall at The University of British Columbia. He is the founding Director of The Centre for Missional Leadership and author of Lessons from Laodicea: Missional Leadership in a Culture of Affluence (Cascade, 2016).
