This is an extraordinary and original way of telling the story of those years, and of examining the forces and phenomena behind that story. It can be enjoyed for its photography, considered as an excitingly different way of recording history, and read as a profound reflection on a city foreseeing and then experiencing an historical transformation.

This book examines Chinese art from the mid-eighteenth century to the present. By means of a series of closely-focused case studies, often introducing previously marginalized aspects of Chinese visual culture, it analyzes Chinese art's encounter with the world, arguing that we cannot fully understand modern Chinese art without taking this larger global context into account.

Eldership is Male: Only a Woman Can Be Pregnant confronts one of the most pressing theological and cultural issues of our time-gender roles in the Church and the broader consequences of abandoning biblical distinctions. Originally published under the title Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, this work presents David Clarke's personal and historical account of confronting elders in a Christian Church who, in the name of equality and kindness, sought to appoint women as elders-contrary to the clear teaching of Scripture. With courage and conviction, Clarke argues that the erosion of biblical male leadership in the Church is part of a broader cultural shift that has led to today's "Woke" society: one that questions sexual identity, redefines gender, and enforces harmful speech codes under the banner of inclusivity. The new title was inspired by former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman's bold declaration, "Only a woman can be pregnant"-a statement that should be obvious, yet sparked political controversy in a confused society. Her experience with progressive language in government becomes a parallel for what the author sees happening in the Church: truth being sacrificed at the altar of cultural sensitivity. Clarke's thesis is unapologetically biblical: eldership is reserved for men, as clearly taught in the New Testament-not because of superiority, but to reflect the divine order between Christ and His Church. This book is not about secular gender roles, but about spiritual governance rooted in Scripture. Whether you are a pastor, theologian, or Christian seeking clarity in a time of confusion, this book will challenge you to reconsider the foundations of leadership and gender as revealed in God's Word. "When the Church abandons biblical eldership, it loses its mirror of Christ and His Bride."

Restless, protean, fluid, evanescent - despite being hugely challenging to represent visually, water has gained a peculiar significance in the art of the twentieth century. This may be due to the fact that it allows for a range of metaphorical meanings, many of which are particularly appropriate to the modern age. Not only a subject of contemporary art, but also a material increasingly used in art-making, water's double presence can be detected as much in the marine-themed watercolours of Turner as in the more recent works of performance and installation art in which it is directly employed as a medium. "Water and Art" probes the ways in which water has gained an unprecedented prominence in modern Western art, as well as seeking to illuminate its depiction in earlier periods. David Clarke employs a cross-cultural approach, finding parallels within contemporary Chinese art, which draws on a cultural tradition in which water has a marked presence as both subject and medium. Featuring a wealth of images by artists from East and West including Leonardo da Vinci, Bernini, Turner, Gericault, Klee, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Fu Baoshi, Shi Tao, Wei Zixi and Fang Rending, "Water and Art" helps to promote a new and less culturally-narrow approach to the understanding of art. Fast-paced, accessible, and comprehensive, it will appeal to the specialist and the general reader alike, offering fresh perspectives on familiar artists as well as an introduction to others who are much less recognised in the literature of art history.
'Diese merkwürdige Kleinigkeit einer Vision'
Christoph Hein is one of the best-known authors of the former GDR, and his works of fiction have been widely interpreted as responses to and critiques of socialist society. In this study, David Clarke undertakes a detailed analysis of all of Christoph Hein’s major works of fiction from Der fremde Freund (1928) to Willenbrock (2000) in order to explore Hein’s critique of the GDR regime, whilst also demonstrating how aspects of that critique provided a starting point for Hein’s rejection of capitalism both before and after German unification. For Hein, socialism had failed to make good its promise to create a community bound together by common values and goals, preferring instead to impose conformity upon its citizens. Capitalism, he believed, was equally unable to meet the need for community, and Hein sought to demonstrate the consequences of this state of affairs in the figure of Wörle in his first post-unification novel, Das Napoleon-Spiel (1993). After this point, Clarke argues, Hein was nevertheless forced to re-examine his criticism of capitalism, a process which ultimately led to the more differentiated and convincing portrayal to be found in Willenbrock.

This Publication treats the subject of the Quran and the reason for presenting this is due to a rise in Islamic terrorism, which has caused great concern to many in the West. So with the current massive influx of Muslim's migrating from the various parts of the world into Europe, Great Britain and the USA, it seems reasonable to discover the roots of Islam in order to deal with the problems that have occurred. Our Politicians seem clueless on how to deal with this enemy and when they are questioned they appear to know relatively little about Muhammad and his teaching. One of our greatest Prime-ministers in Britain William Gladstone declared the Quran an "Accursed book" and once held a copy of Muhammad's Quran up in Parliament, declaring: "So long as there is this book there will be no peace in the world". In this book we show that the Quran was written some 500 years after the New Testament scriptures. We use the New Testament scriptures to show that they teach the death resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. We show that Jesus Christ was declared to be the Son of God who's death was ordained by God to make an atonement for the sins of the world (people from every nation whether they be Jew, Gentile, Pagan or Muslim). We show that the majority of the Jewish leaders rejected him and were responsible for his crucifixion and they persecuted the follows of Jesus before and after his death and resurrection. We show that the gospel was preached throughout the whole of the Roman world during the life times of the Apostles and that the Apostles forewarned that men would arise up who would distort the gospel and deny the truths of the gospel. We show that they taught us how we were to deal with this matter.

I am honored to write the foreword to this book that alludes to the Greek mythology about the rescue of Helen of Troy by using a wooden horse that hid the warriors. I can understand the literary license that the author employed to catch the attention of the reader because a book, to be of any use, must be read. However, this book is not about deceptive tricks to mislead the enemy. The underpinning premise of this book is that all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). This being so, we are captives of sin, imprisoned in our own futility, and therefore, in need of a redeemer. Some are literally imprisoned behind bars and barbed wires, like the inmates in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa for sins they have committed to society. Many, however, are incarcerated in spiritual dungeons, without bars, without guards. One is no better than the other. Both prisons eventually lead to destruction and death unless God intervenes. God's loving intervention in man's history is the core message of the gospel and of this book. The good news is that we are not shipwrecks, floating aimlessly in the sea of hopelessness. There is a God who loves us tremendously, who desires to salvage us and make us useful once again according to His original plan. This is what salvation is all about. When Jesus read the scroll of the prophet Isaiah in the synagogue that he was sent "to proclaim freedom for the prisoners" (Luke 4:18), he was, in fact, stating one of the profound truths of his ministry. And that is, there is hope of forgiveness and healing because of the cross he had to endure for our sake. The choice whether we should remain prisoners or not ultimately rests on us. I encourage the reader to read the lives of the prisoners depicted in this book in the hope that they will see that only Jesus can truly set us free. Jose C. Calida: Undersecretary of Justice, Philippines
