Out of frustration about how strays were being handled in Lawton, Oklahoma, Deloris Delluomo got together a group of like-minded citizens in 1984 and formed The Lawton United Volunteers for Animal Birth Control. Their goal was to spay and neuter pets to reduce to the unwanted pet population instead of euthanasia. When the veterinarians refused to participate in a neuter and spay program, Deloris decided to open a low-cost spay/neuter clinic.This is the gut-wrenching story of Deloris Delluomo's thirty-something year struggle to keep her clinic open and spay/neuter message alive against the veterinarian community with its continual refusal to lend professional credibility to address the pet overpopulation and the animal killing insanity in this nation. Harold and Deloris Heiney are renowned Southern Baptist Missionaries to Native Americans, having spent forty-three years (1951-1994) in this specialized field of ministry. One significant and highly publicized historical event in which the Heineys were involved was the seventy-one-day occupation of Wounded Knee by the American Indian Movement (A.I.M.). Harold volunteered at the F.B.I. call center; and he bussed people out from behind the U.S. Marshals roadblock to lead many families to safety, resulting in the opening of doors for ministry among the Lakota people. Harold is of Cherokee descent; and one of his mentors was B. Frank Belvin, the Creek Indian who was the Director of Language Missions for the Home Mission Board. Harold was trained in indigenous ministry to Native Americans, but his approach and outlook - held in common with Deloris - is unique, making this coauthored autobiography a fascinating read.

Tears poured from my eyes as I thought of Cole. I wanted to feel his arms around me; I wanted to feel safe. Would I ever see him again? Of course, I would Cole was coming for me. I just had to be patient; he would come.Seeing movement out of the corner of my eye, I looked back down into the garden below, it was Alarnon He was standing by a statue. Was it him? It was hard to tell for sure, as he was standing in the shadows. A moment later he stepped into the light and I smiled; it was definitely Alarnon. If he was here, were the others as well? Was Cole here? Had they come for me? Were they going to rescue me tonight? I saw another man walking towards Alarnon. As he passed a lamp-stand I recognized him too; Andrew. Alarnon moved from his hiding spot and the two began to speak. Why were Andrew and Alarnon speaking? Weren't they on opposite sides? Was Alarnon only pretending to be on Cole's side? Was that the reason he was so upset when he found out that Cole and I had gotten married? Was he the one who alerted Gabriel of my whereabouts when I was in Lake City? All these thoughts, and more, were running through my head as I watched the two speak. Minutes later they parted.
