This story documents the lengthy journey from mild traumatic brain injury to healing for a small-town obstetrician and gynecologist. He does us the service of describing his injury and challenges in open and honest terms. Those who have dealt with concussion and its continual effects will find common ground here with the author. We all learn how even "minor" head trauma can have major impacts. We feel his pain, we learn of his battle, and we share his progression to healing. We are motivated when we realize that he continues his work of service to his patients through these challenges. Along the way, we are taught lessons of patience, tolerance, following priorities, and dedication. We are inspired by the fight and recovery detailed and reassured by his dependence on a greater power. We learn of how love can be a great tool for healing, and how challenges lead to maturity. We see in action, the scripture, "all things work for good...to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28.
THE WHIMS OF WAR is an historical novel taking place in Philadelphia between 1775 and 1780. Unlike other accounts of this period, it tells the story of a family businessman drawn reluctantly into taking sides in the Revolutionary War. In the process it explores both conflicts among family members and friendships between ideological foes.Don Sampen is an appellate attorney in Chicago who writes for a living. He has written many articles, book chapters, and briefs in court on non-fiction topics. The WHIMS OF WAR is his debut novel of American historical fiction. Two considerations inspired Don to write the novel. One was an interest he developed to write the kind of historical novel he would want to read. The writing turned out to be a labor of love. He is convinced, moreover, that others will enjoy the final product as well. As a second reason, Don wanted to present a not-so-simple picture of the American Revolution, an event of huge historical significance that many people take for granted. He tells the story from the perspective of a business and family man, in a city, Philadelphia, whose citizens were conflicted over the prospect of independence.

Between fathers and sons. the things that aren't talked about often make the biggest impact. His father's experiences in WWII cast a shadow over Don's childhood. Every issue was filtered through his father's silent grief, strict discipline, and lessons in survival. Don struggled to understand the mythic events that occurred before he was born-the Marine Corps and the war-because he felt the continued power of those distant events. Whatever happened to his father still lived, and Don felt compelled to find it and face it. So, he joined the Marines and went to Vietnam. Read his story and his father's.

If this remarkable book doesn't light your fire, then your wood is wet Churches in America are in trouble. Once we were a church on fire. We realized we were in a spiritual warfare. Then we forgot about souls under siege.... Countless souls who do come to the altar in a time of real emotional conviction are all too often soon lost to the church and are harder to win back than if they had never come to the altar. Souls Under Siege is a thought provoking book which is a must for every pastor and lay person who truly is willing to get involved to a point of inconvenience, understands the difference between a decision and a real conversion and who is willing to do battle for the souls of mankind. Foreword by Dr. Rose Sims Author of New Life for Dying Churches
Have you ever felt there is something wrong in your life, but aren't sure what? The problem may be poison. In his latest book, veteran pastor Don R. Vining shines the light of truth on the poisons that sneak into our lives-often without our awareness. We don't intend to let toxic attitudes invade our hearts, families, churches or workplaces, but we find them there just the same. With his usual no-nonsense style, Pastor Vining diagnoses the problem areas and encourages readers to take a personal inventory. Is the gospel preached in your church? Parents, are you the leaders in your home? How do you treat your family? Do your co-workers see a difference in your life? Once we are aware of the problem areas, we can begin to make changes. Sometimes the answer lies in taking something out of our lives; other times we must allow more of the Holy Spirit in. God wants to cleanse our lives and this book offers practical steps to do just that. Is there Poison in Your Pot?
Christ bled 7 times... From Gethsemane to Golgotha, Christ deposited a trail of blood, redeeming man and covering the total plan of salvation in His blood. Have you thought much about all that Christ suffered on your behalf? Most of us avoid dwelling on the reality of Christ's suffering, until the Easter season rolls around. Even then, we tend to skim over the facts of Calvary and move right on to His glorious resurrection. Though Easter is Christ's absolute triumph over death, His suffering also has much to teach us. It provides the doorway to a deeper level and power in our spiritual journey. In his new book, His Pain, My Gain, Pastor Don R. Vining shifts our focus from the mere facts of Christ's suffering to the significance of His suffering. Christ bled seven times for us between His agonized prayer in Gethsemane to the moment He paid sin's ultimate penalty. Through that trail of blood, He covered every issue and circumstance that would ever dare to touch our lives. He confronted and conquered everything we will ever face. If you are longing for a deeper walk with Christ, a better understanding of how His suffering 2,000 years ago can meet your needs today, then His Pain, My Gain is for you.

The aim of this monograph, which has rich and evaluative annotations, is to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the issues in a major developing area of pedagogical lexicography. With this monograph researchers and students can have access to a set of 521 articles from a diverse array of publications, many in hard-to-find sources, that will prove valuable in reviewing the literature of the area. Because articles on language users and dictionary users are published in journals devoted to reading research, language acquisition, second language teaching, linguistics, and lexicography, most of the past research in the area has not shown critical awareness of this diffuse collection of research. The annotated bibliography found in this monograph supplies scholars in all the different fields of enquiry a critical guide to past and current work in pedagogical lexicography. Because this subfield of lexicography has developed in a variety of disciplines, it is difficult for researchers in any single discipline or sub-discipline to find relevant and important articles; this annotated bibliography not only provides a highly defined topical index based on a key-word analysis of the literature, but also annotations and commentary that provide the reader with a critical understanding of the important issues and debates in the development of the study of learners' dictionaries and dictionary users. The authors of this monograph have written the critical annotations in a manner that foregrounds the points of debate within the area which helps to define the concerns of the area.
