This book is about two brothers, Edmond Davenport and Absolum Davenport, who brought their families from Pitt County, North Carolina to Wilson County, Tennessee about 1810-1814. Their great grandfather was Richard Davenport whose descendants are the Albemarle Davenports. He was born in 1642 and lived from about 1680 to his death about 1714 on the north shore of the Albemarle Sound. Their grandfather was Isaac Davenport who moved to the south side of the Albemarle Sound to an area that became a part of Tyrrell County in 1729. Their father was George Davenport, who moved to Hyde County, and served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. When Edmond and Absolum moved to Wilson County, Tennessee, they settled in the Sanders Fork area that became a part of Cannon County in 1838. Absolum served in the army during the War of 1812. About 1835 Edmond and two of his sons moved to the Barren Fork area of Warren County. The descendants of both Edmond and Absolum increased rapidly and soon began moving out of the area. Today they are in nearly all, if not all, of the 50 states of the United States and also in several foreign countries.

Edmond Halley’s Reconstruction of the Lost Book of Apollonius’s Conics
Apollonius’s Conics was one of the greatest works of advanced mathematics in antiquity. The work comprised eight books, of which four have come down to us in their original Greek and three in Arabic. By the time the Arabic translations were produced, the eighth book had already been lost. In 1710, Edmond Halley, then Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford, produced an edition of the Greek text of the Conics of Books I-IV, a translation into Latin from the Arabic versions of Books V-VII, and a reconstruction of Book VIII. The present work provides the first complete English translation of Halley’s reconstruction of Book VIII with supplementary notes on the text. It also contains 1) an introduction discussing aspects of Apollonius’s Conics 2) an investigation of Edmond Halley's understanding of the nature of his venture into ancient mathematics, and 3) an appendices giving a brief account of Apollonius’s approach to conic sections and his mathematical techniques. This book will be of interest to students and researchers interested in the history of ancient Greek mathematics and mathematics in the early modern period.

The Legion of Lazarus by Edmond Hamilton, Science Fiction, Adventure
Being expelled from an air lock into deep space was the legal method of execution. But it was also the only way a man could qualify for -- the Legion of Lazarus "It isn't so bad," says one of the men who are with you inside this ultimate room. "Fifty years from now, the rest of us will all be old, or dead." And then you're waking again, and you think, Fifty years. you think. It's been fifty years. But another part of your mind says, No, it is only tomorrow morning.
The Door Into Infinity by Edmond Hamilton, Science Fiction, Fantasy
"Where leads the Door?" "It leads outside our world." "Who taught our forefathers to open the Door?" "They Beyond the Door taught them." "To whom do we bring these sacrifices?" "We bring them to Those Beyond the Door." "Shall the Door be opened that They may take them?" "Let the Door be opened " Paul Ennis had listened thus far, his haggard face uncomprehending in expression, but now he interrupted the speaker. "But what does it all mean, inspector? Why are you repeating this to me?"

One of the most versatile actors of his generation, Edmond O'Brien made a series of iconic noir films. From a man reporting his own murder in D.O.A. (1949) to the conflicted title character in The Bigamist (1953), he portrayed the confusion of the postwar Everyman. His memorable roles spanned genres from Shakespeare to westerns and comedies--he also turned his hand to directing. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the harassed press agent Oscar Muldoon in Joseph Mankiewicz's bitter Cinderella fable The Barefoot Contessa (1954). This first in-depth study of O'Brien charts his life and career from Broadway to Hollywood and to the rise of television, revealing a devoted family man dedicated to his craft.
