Life for 12-year-old Luke Adams is tough, and it's about to get weird, too. His mother died when he was 10, his dad is a workaholic, and Benjamin Franklin just traveled to his backyard from 1783 Paris. Luke wants more than anything to help his dad become the family man he used to be. He also wants to keep his bully, Hunter Lyons, from convincing their middle school to cancel all of the art classes. And, as if that's not enough, now that Benjamin Franklin is standing in his living room - wearing tights, short pants, and a ruffly white shirt, no less - Luke has to find a way to get him back to Paris in time to sign the treaty that ends the American Revolution. With a little wisdom from Ben and a lot of determination, Luke tries hard to solve his problems. He helps out in his dad's Italian bistro, sells Ben's valuable coins at an antique show, sketches a one hundred-dollar bill, and even finds the courage to speak in front of a packed audience of middle schoolers.Oh, and he teaches Ben all about the modern world. He even teaches Ben how to drive Life for 12-year-old Luke Adams is tough, and it's about to get weird, too. This textbook acquaints readers with the major federal statutes and regulations that control management and employment practices in the American workplace. The material is presented from the perspective that the human resource professional is the employer's representative and is, therefore, responsible for protecting the employer's interests and reducing the employer's exposure to litigation through monitoring activities and viable employee policies. The book is designed as a tool for today's business and management professionals, and unlike some other texts in the field, maintains a pro-business or pro-management approach. The authors have skilfully crafted Employment Regulation in the Workplace to be an effective learning tool. Each chapter opens with learning objectives and an example scenario, and each chapter contains plenty of illustrative figures, boxes, and diagrams. Chapters conclude with a listing of key terms, questions for discussion, and two case exercises. The book also includes a comprehensive bibliography.

Corporate Social Responsibility Across the Globe demonstrates many ways that CSR can be applied by law to overcome regulation and governance challenges around the world. Using interdisciplinary and comparative models and perspectives, the book challenges dominant understandings of CSR, such as neoliberal voluntarism, and demonstrates the regulatory and governance implications of an interdependent relationship between CSR and the law. The book identifies substantive and procedural barriers for CSR in national, public, and private international law. By analyzing, deconstructing, and reframing CSR in these contexts, the book underlines opportunities for more effective application of CSR as a governance mechanism. Chapters investigate relevant regulation concepts, paradigms and approaches for CSR; methods for infusing CSR in corporate governance; and ways to facilitate private regulation of CSR in more developed, emerging, and developing jurisdictions.
