Vienna in 1942 is a city overrun with Nazis, profiteers, and spies. A desperate Nazi officer, under pressure from his superiors, bullies Lichtblau, a banker, also a writer, into handing him over some of the bank’s money. He is the object of hatred on the part of Hellroth, who has always been in love with Lichtblau’s wife. As Lichtblau’s and his family’s lives become more and more perilous, they devise a plan for his wife and children to leave Vienna and travel across Europe to England. Once in Oxford, a professor, Tom Oliver, with whom they have been in touch through a Resistance network in Europe, is due to take them in. Tom Oliver is loosely based on the figure of Maurice Bowra (1898-1971), a colourful libertine who played a decisive role in helping Jewish refugees escape war-torn continental Europe and get to Oxford. Lichtblau stays behind in Vienna after his family’s departure, in order to work for the Resistance. As the Lichtblau party crosses Europe, they encounter danger and get into life-threatening situations, facing them with resourcefulness and sometimes disguises and bluff. They also come across people willing to help them in their onward journey, passing through Germany and France. The Russians are still some distance from Vienna, as Herr Lichtblau, in 1945, torn between his love for his family and his desire to fight the Nazi plague in Vienna, decides to set out for England. The Ravens of Vienna is the first novel by British author Adrian Grafe. An Oxford graduate, he has published books and articles on literature and music. His poem “Peacock Pie in Paris”, a recreation of the life, during the Occupation, of a young Parisian Jewish girl (who also appears in The Ravens Vienna), was published in We’ll Never Have Paris, an anthology edited by Andrew Gallix (2019). Adrian Grafe lives in Paris and is an English Professor at UniversitÉ d’Artois.

No Border Land is written with three purposes. First, it is intended to be prophetic in nature, a warning as well as a lament. Secondly, it is an appeal to the fence-straddling, contemporary Laodicean church to rouse herself, repair the wall, and heed the Shepherd's voice. Finally, it is a gospel apologetic, a call to consider and respond to the biblical message of the cross.

Today Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) are often considered the most efficient and rapid way for organisations to transform their business and keep up with a constantly changing environment. And, because of the pressure from globalisation, companies will continue to pursue these opportunities in order to remain fruitful and innovative regardless of market fluctuations and economic variations. In this regard, the pharmaceutical industry is probably one of the first that comes to mind. Over the past twenty years or so, the concept of scale economy along with the need of continuously pursuing technological innovation have become more and more prominent in the Pharma world. A growing trend has been observed in this industry in the recent years, with an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions taking place across all geographies and therapeutic areas, thanks to a particularly favourable Regulatory environment, convenient interest rates and important tax reforms. The objective of this book is to analyse the different aspects that characterise mergers and acquisitions in the Pharmaceutical Industry to help the reader build a broader perspective of the subject and the most critical aspects to consider when evaluating a deal.
Maurice Neal was 15 when he joined the King's Royal Rifle Corps in 1906. By the time his regiment was shipped off to the Somme to fight in the First World War, he was a relatively experienced young sergeant. He and his men soon found themselves plunged into the full horror of trench warfare, daily enduring the shock of losing comrades and lying for hours in the mud surrounded by dead and injured fellow soldiers and deafened by the thunder of the bombs and guns. Throughout, Maurice kept a candid and beautifully-written diary of events: "Suddenly, a convulsion shakes him from head to foot and he lies still. The blood rapidly drains away from his face and hands. He turns ashen grey, and I realize that no more will Paddy sing to us...I look to the man on my right. He is making a gurgling noise and blood is oozing from his mouth - he does not live long. What are our orders? Are we to lie like this until a bullet accounts for us all?" Now, almost a century later, Maurice's diary can be published in full, thanks to the efforts of his granddaughter, Stephanie Hillier.
The work of a young French artist (daughter of Brigitte Macron) who combines art and DNA. An exceptional and fascinating journey inside human cells. Text in English and French.
Patient engagement should be envisaged as a key priority today to innovate healthcare services delivery and to make it more effective and sustainable. The experience of engagement is a key qualifier of the exchange between the demand (i.e. citizens/patients) and the supply process of healthcare services. To understand and detect the strategic levers that sustain a good quality of patients’ engagement may thus allow not only to improve clinical outcomes, but also to increase patients’ satisfaction and to reduce the organizational costs of the delivery of services. By assuming a relational marketing perspective, the book offers practical insights about the developmental process of patients’ engagement, by suggesting concrete tools for assessing the levels of patients’ engagement and strategies to sustain it. Crucial resources to implement these strategies are also the new technologies that should be (1) implemented according to precise guidelines and (2) designed according to a user-centered design process. Furthermore, the book describes possible fields of patients’ engagement application by describing the best practices and experiences matured in different fields
