Join King Harald and Andy Skyberg on their second adventure As the leaves begin to change color in New Bergen, Andy Skyberg wants to turn his full attention to his sister's new caf and art gallery-and to the beautiful Finnish architect who is managing the project. But the good-natured, go-to guy can't seem to catch a moment's peace. His next-door neighbors-two elderly sisters-want him to fend off a pushy historian who thinks they had a scandalous past. His parents enlist him to entertain a narcissistic, boring couple they would like to ditch. And his ever-scheming Aunt Bev tricks Andy into seeking an improbable new gig that could land him in the hot seat. Even Andy's big ol' mutt King Harald has a kennel full of trouble in store for him, beginning with a pilfered thousand-dollar bill and a naughty garden gnome. Before long, New Bergen's favorite crime-sniffing pooch finds even more deep doo-doo to toss his boss into. Havoc and hilarity ensue, as Andy and his happy hound get to the bottom of King Harald's Heist.

It's early December and Andy Skyberg is itching to blow town for a weekend of holiday cheer with old friends-including a date with an attractive divorc e who thinks he's hot. But first, Aunt Bev needs a teensy bit of help. She's managing the Girls' Weekend Out event at the Beaver Tail Resort and could use some extra muscle. Andy figures he can spare a few hours before hitting the road. Mother Nature, though, has other plans. A giant blizzard makes an unexpected turn. Andy and his pooch King Harald find themselves snowbound-in a hotel full of hard-partying women, stranded travelers, a hockey team, a man-eating novelist, a belligerent blogger, and one violent, devious jewel thief. Before you know it, man and mutt are up to their noses in another case. It's a winter wonderland of fast-paced fun and merry madness, as the sleuthing duo dig out from King Harald's Snow Job.

Stories within stories, streams of consciousness and flights of imaginative fancy... These eight pieces, some related and some not, weave their way through some of the trials of human existence. They encourage us to consider the way we choose to live and interact with technology and how we judge others in the modern world, and tell us of the details of lifestyles gone by, highlighting the differences between the life of a young person then and now: culturally, financially and socially. Meet a writer in a bar impressing a lady with his imagination, a fair-minded shopping mall manager, a bird-man, some disembodied voices, European turn-of-the century immigrants and many other characters. Read about an escape on a train, dreams which might not be dreams and the strange things that make different people laugh, interspersed with philosophy and musings on the world.

Harald Hardrada is perhaps best known as the inheritor of seven feet of English soil in that year of fateful change, 1066\. But Stamford Bridge was the terminal point of a warring career that spanned decades and continents. Thus, prior to forcibly occupying the Norwegian throne, Harald had an interesting (and lucrative) career in the Varangian Guard, and he remains unquestionably the most notable of all the Varangians who served the Byzantine emperors: in the latter employment he saw active service in the Aegean, Sicily, Italy, Anatolia, Syria, Palestine and Bulgaria, while in Constantinople he was the hired muscle behind a palace revolution. A man of war, his reign in Norway was to be taken up with a wasteful, vicious and ultimately futile conflict against Denmark, a kingdom (like England) he believed was his to rule. We follow Harald s life from Stiklestad, where aged fifteen he fought alongside his half-brother king Olaf, through his years as a mercenary in Russia and Byzantium, then back to Norway, ending with his death in battle in England.

THE SEVEN WIVES OF HARALD FAIRHAIR "Harald Harfagre was remarkably handsome, great and strong, and very generous to his men. He was a great warrior and his large posterity spread over the whole land; for of his race, ever since, have come the Kings of Norway." Heimskringla Harald was not inherently romantic, but he did envy the look of love he saw in the eyes of his powerful father whenever his lovely mother was near. Their influence was key to the remarkable man he would become. Enter Odin, the Allfather who ruled the mortals under his charge. Would the god actually ask Harald to marry at the age of eleven, regardless of the stunning red-haired beauty chosen for his mate? But she was only the bait---the bait that would set the young prince on his quest to fulfill the destiny requested and required of him by Odin in the pre-mortal world. Little did this Viking lad know that Asa would be just the first of the wives Odin would choose for him to wed. After countless successful battles and many years as the powerful ruler, Harald began to feel proud of his great accomplishments and neglected to pay homage to the god who had protected and guided the events of his life. Then came the witch. The confident king was helpless under her power and she used him as she pleased. Only after he had sired four sons while hidden in the dark, filthy cave did Odin allow him to be rescued. Some lessons are hard to learn, but those are the kind one never forgets. Fortunately for Harald, he had yet more women to love and more sons to be brought into the world. The noble blood that ran through the veins of these sons would insure the longevity of his royal line. The Seven Wives of Harald Fairhair, First King of All Norway brings to life a superhero of the Viking Age whose story needs to be told. He shall take his place among the great leaders of the Norsemen. It is a saga of love and war, but mostly love.
