Die Dissertation wurde 1998 mit dem Elisabeth-Selbert-Preis des Landes Hessen ausgezeichnet. Je weiter die Expansion des Islam in Europa fortschreitet, um so aktueller wird diese Studie uber Migration, Transformation und Islam. Sie tragt zum Verstehen der zugewanderten Menschen, ihrer Herkunftskulturen und der Loesung von Problemen bei. Ein Schwerpunkt der Studie sind Analyse und Vergleich der unterschiedlichen Entwicklung der Geschlechterordnung in der islamischen und in der christlich fundierten Welt und Werteordnung. Die dort dominierende Frauentauschlogik mit ihrer kulturtraditionalen Unterdruckung der Frau kontrastiert zur Logik der Anerkennung der Frau als gleichberechtigte Person. Gezeigt wird, dass die Wurzeln dieser Strukturen bereits in den drei monotheistischen Religionen und ihren heiligen Buchern - Altes Testament, Neues Testament und Koran - enthalten sind. Am Beispiel einer Familie aus der schriftlosen islamischen Berberkultur Marokkos wird der UEbergang in die Moderne und die Veranderung der Geschlechterordnung aufgezeigt: "Die Tochter ist der Vater geworden."

Seit Ende der 1960er Jahre werden konkordante und korporatistische Entscheidungsmuster als wünschenswert für moderne Demokratien empfohlen. Wissenschaftler haben sich in internationalen Vergleichen bemüht, deren positive Performanz vor dem Hindergrund makroökonomischer Daten in verschiedenen Politikfeldern herauszuarbeiten. Seit einigen Jahren wird allerdings gefordert, die quantitativen Forschungszugänge stärker durch qualitative zu ergänzen. Dies ist hier für die Wirtschaftspolitik Großbritanniens geschehen. Die Longitudinalanalyse der Wirtschaftspolitik kommt zu einer Revision der von Mainstream noch immer propagierten Politikempfehlung. Gerade in der Wirtschaftspolitik geht es um Handlungsfähigkeit der Regierung, wie sie in einem parlamentarischen System britischer Prägung besonders ausgeprägt gegeben ist. Konkordante Entscheidungsmuster sind anfällig dafür, dass wichtige Entscheidungsträger durch starke Interessen vereinnahmt werden. Es unterbleibt jener rechtzeitige Wandel, der für eine nachhaltige Wirtschaftspolitik im Rahmen der Globalisierung dringend erforderlich ist.
