Nach dem Frieden von Lun ville 1801 reist der Abb Jean-Baptiste Maug rard OSB (1735-1815) im August des folgenden Jahres - als Commissaire du Gouvernement pour la recherche des sciences et arts dans le quatre d partements du Rhin - durch die Bibliotheken des linken Rheinufers mit dem Auftrag, dipl mes, chartes, bulles, manuscrits, ditions primes etc. f r Paris zu sammeln. Und so bedient er sich ungeniert an den zum Teil wertvollen alten Best nden der Museen, Ar-chive und Bibliotheken zwischen Aachen/K ln/Trier, z. B. des Klosters Maria Laach, und verschleppt sie in die Zentrale nach Paris, das ja f r die vier neuen Departements die neue Hauptstadt ist. Immerhin stellt Maug rard ordentliche Listen zusammen, die nunmehr eine Zuordnung erlauben.
