Welcome to CROOKED V.2, the second volume of sci-fi crime stories edited by Jessie Kwak. In this volume you'll find 18 stories of mayhem and tangled loyalties. Bounty hunters chase targets who aren't what they seem. Private eyes hunt wrongdoers in mean, futuristic streets--and are hunted in return. Easy jobs go wrong. Hunted bounties get wily. Mysteries are solved, only to lead to more horrifying mysteries. Sometimes the bad guys win, sometimes the good guys do. And, hey. It's a crime anthology. Most of the time it'll be pretty damn hard to tell the two apart. These folks are just trying to do their best (or not) in morally gray worlds. The mission of the CROOKED anthology series is to introduce you, the reader, to authors who are currently writing sci-fi crime stories. Many of the short stories in this collection are set in larger universes, which means that if you read something you like, you'll find plenty more stories by that author to keep you busy. This anthology contains stories by C.E. Clayton, Austin Dragon, Jim Keen, G.J. Ogden, Patrick Swenson, Maddi Davidson, Kate Sheeran Swed, Frasier Armitage, Mark Teppo, E.L. Strife, Greg Dragon, William Burton McCormick, Erik Grove, Mark Niemann-Ross, Caitlin Demaris McKenna, R J Theodore, Andrew Sweet, and Jessie Kwak.

Traditional recipes from home cooks on the coast and Outer Banks of North Carolina. From church fundraisers to Sunday dinner tables, these are recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, swapped among friends, and shared, hastily written, on the corners of receipts, the backs of can labels, and the corners of disused almanacs. These are the recipes of the people, developed in their own kitchens, for their own families, to their own tastes. You are welcomed with abundant Southern Hospitality to share in this "mess of good eatin'."

In this busy generation, you may not have taken the time to pass down your family's recipes to your son or daughter. You may not have even had time to cook much yourself, let alone teach someone else! Or perhaps the family's recipes aren't as healthy as what you like to eat. This is where the Hand-Me-Down Cookbook for Clean Eaters comes in. As much as this is a cookbook, it is also a clean eating guide for young people leaving home for the first time. The first few chapters are dedicated to teaching first year college students how to stock their dorm rooms and first kitchens, as well as what to eat in the cafeteria or when eating out with friends. Even if your son or daughter never learned how to cook, this guide will help them avoid the trap of fast food and unhealthy cafeteria cuisine. The goal is to establish good habits that will empower them into adulthood so that they can enjoy long, prosperous lives. And with your help, this cookbook will also help preserve your family's cooking legacy.
The Way It Was: Old World Italian Recipes For New World Cooks

Brasenose College was founded in 1509 by a Bishop (William Smith) and a lawyer (Richard Sutton). Both came from the North West of England, and the college has always been proud of its links with Lancashire and Cheshire. But over the centuries Brasenose or 'B.N.C.' as it is usually known has expanded its reputation worldwide. This is the first full-scale history of Brasenose, timed to coincide with its Quincentenary. The setting is broad: it relates the college to the university, and the university to the wider world of politics. Using archives, letters and diaries, it aims to recreate something of the variety and texture of academic life over a period of five centuries: the learning, the conversation, the sport; the intellectual milieu and financial context; the architecture inside and out; the food and drink, the quirks of personality, the little dramas, and absurdities that make up the small change of corporate living.
Cultural Practices and Socioeconomic Attainment

Why do parents who have high levels of education tend to have children who perform better at school, stay at school longer, and end up with more desirable jobs? Researchers have evidence of how distinct factors affect educational and occupational success, but significantly less understanding of the actual mechanisms involved. This work uses new Australian data to investigate those mechanisms, examining how cultural participation and parental encouragement affect adolescent and adult stratification outcomes in advanced modern society. Crook develops theoretical accounts of the possible mechanisms linking family background with socioeconomic success and tests competing hypotheses using a synthetic approach drawing on the strengths of the two distinct traditions of social stratification research.
This book demonstrates how mathematical models constructed in system dynamics modelling platforms, such as Vensim, can be used for long-term management of environmental change. It is divided into two sections, with the first dedicated to theory, where the theory of co-evolutionary modelling and its use in the system dynamics model platform is developed. The book takes readers through the steps in the modelling process, different validation tools applicable to these types of models and different growth specification, as well as how to curve fit using numerical methods in Vensim. Section 2 comprises of a collection of applied case studies, including fisheries, game theory and wildlife management. The book concludes with lessons from the use of co-evolutionary models for long-term natural resource management. The book will be of great interest to students and scholars of environmental economics, natural resource management, system dynamics, ecological modelling and bioeconomics.

The Economics of Estuary Restoration in South Africa

This book examines the economic costs and benefits of the ecological restoration of estuaries, utilizing case studies from South Africa. Estuaries are important ecosystems from both an ecological and human perspective. Yet, in many parts of the world they are often degraded environments, facing threats from climate change, invasive species, fire and wastewater pollution. While the environmental benefits of restoring degraded environments are well discussed, this book specifically examines the economic benefits of doing so. It applies a cost-benefit analysis, which focuses on a range of key ecosystem services, including human health, fishing value, recreational value and property value. The book utlizes three detailed studies of the Swartkops estuary, the Great Brak estuary and the Knysna estuary in South Africa, but also draws out lessons that can be applied to coastal environments across the world. Overall, this book demonstrates that ecological restoration does pay and that the value of additional ecosystem services gained through restoration far exceeds the costs associated with this restoration process. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of environmental management and restoration, ecological economics, ecosystem services and environmental conservation.
