Jerry Robinson is one of the living legends of American comics. As a member of the original Batman team, he created the first and most iconic of all supervillains, the Joker, and cocreated Robin, the archetypal sidekick. During the Golden and Silver Ages of comics, Robinson worked on every comic book genre there was, and brought to life his own super heroes such as London, Jet Scott, and Atoman. His artistry also extended beyond comic books into editorial cartooning and popular syndicated newspaper strips such as Still Life and Flubs & Fluffs, as well as magazine and book illustration, fine arts, academia, and humanitarian affairs. Robinson has been an influential teacher, an important curator of cartooning art exhibits, and a tireless champion of artists’ rights. This rich, fully illustrated collection of his work was written in collaboration with the artist himself.

Things get squirrely when Jerry discovers that his new town is a sanctuary for were-creatures, humans who turn into animals when the moon is full, in an action-packed romp for younger middle grade readers. Jerry has serious questions about the town his scientist father drags him to: why did they give up traveling the world to settle down in such a strange spot? Why won't his dad talk about his mysterious research or explain what happened to his mother, who disappeared years ago? And when he sees his friend Pearl transform into a were-squirrel under the light of the full moon, he needs to know: were exactly has he ended up? But when criminal mayhem turns Jerry's town--a safe haven for were-creatures--into a not-so-safe haven, Jerry must uncover a twisty conspiracy and take down the instigators who are trying to tear the place that's become his home apart. Packed with twists and turns and filled with vivid black-and-white drawings, Kraken Me Up author Jeffrey Ebbeler's experience as a comics artist translates into dynamic, visual action sequences that even the most reluctant readers won't have to fight their way through. Larger-than-life bad guys and slapstick humor meets a heartfelt exploration of what makes a place home in this page-turner that will leave younger middle grade readers howling for more.

He survived it all to be hailed as one of the greatest music icons. For the very first time, he reveals the truth behind the Last Man Standing of the rock-and-roll era.

"We have often heard of nowhere and supposed it somewhere in Texas."--Galveston Times"I went to Texas and ran wild on her prairies."--William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) "God made Texas when he was a small boy and wanted a sandbox."--Folklore on the AmericanLand"A Texan ain't nothing but a human being way out on a limb."--John Wayne's line in The Searchers"We are a wordy bunch, always have been, and for almost two centuries, outsiders, intrigued by all the commotion down here in the Southwest, have come to inspect, dissect, cuss and praise. . . . Texas is a heroic story, the stuff of dreams and myths. Born of an impossible revolution, settled by peoples from somewhere else, Texas engendered the epic American notion of freedom and independence, of self-sufficiency and derring-do. Texas, above all else, has been a spiritual adventure--and the whole grand chronicle is there on library shelves, in newspaper clippings, old letters, written memories. There's little about Texas that hasn't already been said or written, and Texas Siftings is a kind of social catalog to much of it." So wrote Jerry Flemmons in the introduction to the first volume of Texas Siftings, which has been read and treasured by Texans, expatriate Texans, and would-be Texans from coast to coast. Now he's back with More Texas Siftings, an equally engaging and engrossing collection of stories both humorous and dramatic, letters, recipes, snippets of Texas language, outrageous praise and angry condemnation for the Lone Star State and its inhabitants.

Jerry West: The Alchemy of Memory is the long-awaited, richly deserved retrospective of one of Santa Fe and New Mexico's most prominent artists. West was born in 1933 before the war that brought New Mexico into the modern century. His father Harold E. ("Hal") West, a WPA artist, anchored his son in the rugged world of ranch life and an abiding respect for American regionalism. Dreams, memory, prairie, the night sky; demons, family, history; remoteness and the grandeur of the vast windmills, coyotes and low-flying ravens; childhood, manhood, a tiny white kite and an advancing storm; vulnerability and masculinity; the strong, saturated colors of an artist who knows what he knows - a figurative artist of the subconscious nestled in peronal history with the New Mexico roots intact. Featuring ninety painting and some prints and murals that cover the period from early 1960s to the present and narrated by the artist.

Jerry of the Islands (Esprios Classics)
Jack London (1876-1916), was an American author and a pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction. He was one of the first Americans to make a lucrative career exclusively from writing. London was self-educated. He taught himself in the public library, mainly just by reading books. In 1898, he began struggling seriously to break into print, a struggle memorably described in his novel, Martin Eden (1909). Jack London was fortunate in the timing of his writing career. He started just as new printing technologies enabled lower-cost production of magazines. This resulted in a boom in popular magazines aimed at a wide public, and a strong market for short fiction. In 1900, he made $2,500 in writing, the equivalent of about $75,000 today. His career was well under way. Among his famous works are: Children of the Frost (1902), The Call of the Wild (1903), The Sea Wolf (1904), The Game (1905), White Fang (1906), The Road (1907), Before Adam (1907), Adventure (1911), and The Scarlet Plague (1912).
