The convergence of knowledge, technology, and human performance which comprises today's enterprise allows creative business process design. Thus, an organization can create new and innovative ways to service customers or to do business with suppliers and make itself a leader in its field. This capability relies on a successful strategy that integrates the enterprise. Enterprise Systems Integration, Second Edition continues to provide you with the business insight and the technical know-how that ensures successful systems integration. The book combines the perspectives, knowledge, and experience of more than 70 experts in the various areas that involve enterprise integration. Their expertise ranges from hands-on experience with technology and project management to the higher-level issues of business and management strategy. Each chapter examines an issue or technology relevant to today's enterprise. Collectively, these chapters span the range of enterprise computing and systems integration. Once armed with the strategy and technologies, you must successfully deploy ERP systems within budget and on time. In addition, you must be able to integrate them into the rest of the enterprise. Still, ERP software does not make up the full picture of today's enterprise. Legacy systems, e-commerce and other Web-based systems, client/server applications, networks and communications systems, data warehousing, and integrated databases enter into the mix. Enterprise Systems Integration, Second Edition paints a comprehensive picture of the technologies that comprise today's enterprise and shows you how to make them work together.

Giving organizations the ability to track, secure, and manage items from the time they are raw materials through the life-cycle of the product, radio frequency identification (RFID) makes internal processes more efficient and improves overall supply chain responsiveness. Helping you bring your organization into the future, RFID in the Supply Chain: A Guide to Selection and Implementation explains RFID technology, its applications in SCM, data storage and retrieval, business processes, operational and implementation problems, risks, security and privacy, facility layout, handling systems and methods, and transportation costs. In short, with its soup-to-nuts coverage, the book ensures that your RFID implementation is successful and that you get the most from your investment. The book discusses the major paradigm shift in product traceability that began with transitioning to RFID technology from bar code technology. It examines the economic feasibility of rolling out RFID and the challenges in supply chain synchronization, customer privacy, security, operations and IT, logistics, program management, education and training, and implementation, as well as what lessons have been learned. The author addresses the RFID business processes needed to analyze and resolve problems the suppliers face when they deal with multiple customers, each with a different mandate, and with their own set of suppliers. Going beyond the technology and how it has changed supply chain processes, the book includes selection guidelines and implementation examples, such as speed of tag reads versus quality of computer inputs and optimal tag location. The author discusses the implementation of a business process model and the separate but equal concerns that business and IT executives have about the implementation of RFID applications. The book also covers security, integrated control management linked to the corporate strategy, and laws and regulations.

In the village of Funar, located in the central highlands of Timor-Leste, the disturbing events of the twenty-four-year-long Indonesian occupation are rarely articulated in narratives of suffering. Instead, the highlanders emphasize the significance of their return to the sacred land of the ancestors, a place where "gold" is abundant and life is thought to originate. On one hand, this collective amnesia is due to villagers' exclusion from contemporary nation-building processes, which bestow recognition only on those who actively participated in the resistance struggle against Indonesia. On the other hand, the cultural revival and the privileging of the ancestral landscape and traditions over narratives of suffering derive from a particular understanding of how human subjects are constituted. Before life and after death, humans and the land are composed of the same substance; only during life are they separated. To recover from the forced dislocation the highlanders experienced under the Indonesian occupation, they thus seek to reestablish a mythical, primordial unity with the land by reinvigorating ancestral practices. Never leaving out of sight the intense political and emotional dilemmas imposed by the past on people's daily lives, The Land of Gold seeks to go beyond prevailing theories of postconflict reconstruction that prioritize human relationships. Instead, it explores the significance of people's affective and ritual engagement with the environment and with their ancestors as survivors come to terms with the disruptive events of the past.

Twelve Christmas Gifts is a collection of unusual essays written between 1996 and 2008, on the glorious coast of Maine. Over the years these essays, published as booklets with my amateur cover illustrations, have been posted to far-off friends as personal offerings in place of store-bought cards, and delivered by hand to new-found friends in Cushing. They are simply insights into what I believe is the true meaning of a gift.

This is merely a gathering of reminiscences, an anecdotal history. Those interviewed were young when they knew Dr. Benson, and he was not a daily experience in their lives. These memories were coaxed back to life after thirty to sixty years. And yet they are surprisingly consistent and give us a good impression of this small town doctor. Here he is called Cushing's only doctor, because he was the only one who had an office, a "shingle", a waiting room and a receptionist.

THE JAGUAR HUNTS is Third Book in the Anna Kinnealy Series. Frightening and cruel choices confront Anna Kinnealy: let others help her children Alex, Cory and Marnie, in danger in London, or find and ransom her oldest son, AJ, in Mexico. Should she rely on others to search for him while she makes herself the focus of the publicity or search for him on her own? Anna becomes a pawn in a game played by an implacable enemy whose increasing control over the cartels masterminds her kidnapping from Mexico and forces her to return home to wait for the contact she is sure will come, a contact whom one enemy has hinted might be her former husband, believed to be long dead. Worse, under this extreme stress, Anna's heightened senses and unease increase, an experience which has her believing she is losing her mind. Anna's control over herself falls apart as death looms over friends and family. Betrayal by Serpent and In Crocodile Waters are the preceding books.

Black & White Edition] The Christmas Killings: 40 Hours to Justice is published on the 25th anniversary of, arguably, Dayton, Ohio's most shocking murder spree. The crimes were so horrifying that they captured the attention of the national and international press. Known as "The Christmas Killings," this series of events became a worldwide news story in the print media and early days of cable news. This true-life crime drama opens Christmas week 1992 in a Dayton, Ohio, a declining major industrial U.S. city. This was written from the vantage point of the four detectives who investigated the murders. The account is delivered as if by screen narration and is filled with the visual imagery that one would expect in a documentary thanks to the author's access to the investigative case file, a local television station's file footage and more. The transcribed, verbatim police audio transmissions between a uniform sergeant and dispatch sergeant add a truly riveting dimension to the book. The most compelling element of the story is the four detectives' recollection and insight to the crimes and the killers. If only a book could be heard The Christmas Killings: 40 Hours to Justice, is designed for visual and audio presentation and is the framework for a film production. Moving forward to produce a documentary exactly as presented in the book is the endgame. It has not happened to date. Nevertheless, The Christmas Killings: 40 Hours to Justice has been a source for national network presentations six times (from most recent): 1) Spotify for the podcast series "Serial Killers" under the title "The Dayton Christmas Killings" (broadcasted December 21, 2022); 2) TV ONE for a television series "Sins in the City" (aired November 14, 2022); 3) OXY TV "Homicide for the Holidays" (aired December 18, 2021); 4) the podcast "Crime Stories with Nancy Grace" (broadcasted December 15, 2020); 5) OXY TV "Killer Couples" (filmed-not yet aired); and 6) TV ONE "For My Man: Bound by Blood" (aired February 11, 2019). These programs have been aired on other dates and a few may have also been reproduced under different titles for other settings (i.e. Youtube).

Marcion and the Making of a Heretic

Marcion and the Making of a Heretic

Judith M. Lieu

Cambridge University Press
2015
sidottu
A comprehensive and authoritative account of the 'heretic' Marcion, this volume traces the development of the concept and language of heresy in the setting of an exploration of second-century Christian intellectual debate. Judith M. Lieu analyses accounts of Marcion by the major early Christian polemicists who shaped the idea of heresy, including Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Epiphanius of Salamis, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Ephraem Syrus. She examines Marcion's Gospel, Apostolikon, and Antitheses in detail and compares his principles with those of contemporary Christian and non-Christian thinkers, covering a wide range of controversial issues: the nature of God, the relation of the divine to creation, the person of Jesus, the interpretation of Scripture, the nature of salvation, and the appropriate lifestyle of adherents. In this innovative study, Marcion emerges as a distinctive, creative figure who addressed widespread concerns within second-century Christian diversity.
