The definitive and enthralling biography of one of Britain greatest musical stars, Julie Andrews.
From her Oscar-nominated film debut alongside Michael Caine in 'Educating Rita', to her appearances in 'Billy Elliot' and the Harry Potter films, Julie Walters is one of Britain's finest actresses. This biography traces her life from a poor Birmingham upbringing to international acclaim.
An elegant translation of one of the most popular novels of its time. Rousseau's great epistolary novel, Julie, or the New Heloise, has been virtually unavailable in English since 1810. In it, Rousseau reconceptualized the relationship of the individual to the collective and articulated a new moral paradigm. The story follows the fates and smoldering passions of Julie d'Etange and St. Preux, a one-time lover who re-enters Julie's life at the invitation of her unsuspecting husband, M. de Wolmar. The complex tones of this work made it a commercial success and a continental sensation when it first appeared in 1761, and its embodiment of Rousseau's system of thought, in which feelings and intellect are intertwined, redefined the function and form of fiction for decades. As the characters negotiate a complex maze of passion and virtue, their purity of soul and honest morality reveal, as Rousseau writes in his preface,"the subtleties of heart of which this work is full." A comprehensive introduction and careful annotations make this novel accessible to contemporary readers, both as an embodiment of Rousseau's philosophy and as a portrayal of the tension and power inherent in domestic life.

The Distance Between reflects a woman balancing her own wild and reckless heart with the responsibilities of marriage and motherhood. It is both the drawing together and the completely falling apart; the slow dancing in the kitchen and the slamming of the doors. To write lines about the one you love such as "and what we have/isn't called sex anymore" and balance it with the simplicity of "Coltrane on the stereo/red wine and mac and cheese/and a quiet bliss" takes raw guts, which Julie has plenty of, as she opens the window to these joyous and painful truths.
Julie and Her Seven Calves is a story of a cow who asks her seven little calves to get some food. The calves pass the job from one to another until it reaches back to their mama, who surprises them all with her response

This is a book of recipes passed down through the generations from my great grandmother, grandmother, and mother. They came from many cousins and friends. I've added my own favorites that I've collected in the fifty years I've been cooking. For me, home cooking always made a house feel like a home--the delicious smell of cookies fresh from the oven when I walked in the door after school or a pot roast dinner beckoning us to the dinner table.

Years before, they made a pact that when they died, they would meet up and visit retirement and assisted living communities. This lets them know the special story that each person carries with them. The Patio Club series will remind you that anything is possible in the last years of life.
Regarded as the 'first Czech woman composer of importance' by the Grove Dictionary in 1954, Julie Reisserová's name has since virtually disappeared from the musical and musicological landscape. Reisserová, one of Albert Roussel's most famous Czech students during the interwar period, was not only a successful composer in her time, but also an active feminist. Her music was generally well received and performed by prestigious musicians. The only comprehensive study of her life and work, published in 1948, was written by Jirina Vacková. If Vacková was able to investigate the personal archives of the diplomat Jan Reisser – Reisserová's husband – before they were seized and/or destroyed by the communist regime, her book remains hagiographical. This Element draws up a new biographical sketch of the artist, reviews Reisserová's thoughts on the status of women composers between the wars, considers the reception of her six surviving scores, and examines her style.
