Other-regarding preferences, hence appreciation of others’ welfare, are mainly culturally transmitted, whereby most of the development takes place in the sensitive period of childhood and adolescence. This work analyzes the development as well as possible influencing factors of other-regarding preferences during this period. To test the hypotheses derived from developmental and socialization aspects, the author conducts a survey measuring altruistic and cooperative preferences for German pupils. Results show that over the age span studied altruism and cooperation are increasingly important. Individual differences show none or only small relationship with measures of other-regarding preferences while differences in school environments are similarly important to age differences.

Mit zunehmender Globalisierung und seit der Erweiterung der EU sehen sich Konsumenten mit einer Fülle an Produkten aus einer Vielzahl an Ländern konfrontiert. Nicht nur auf Endabnehmer, auch auf gewerbliche Einkäufer wirken sich diese Veränderungen aus: vermehrt beziehen Unternehmen Waren aus dem Ausland bzw. lagern Teile der Produktion aus dem Heimatland aus. Gerade für österreichische Unternehmen bringt die Durchsetzung des europäischen Binnenmarktes mit der Umsetzung dieser Grundfreiheiten weitreichende Veränderungen. Die geographische Nähe Österreichs zu fünf der neuen Beitrittsländer resultiert in verstärkten Außenhandelsbeziehungen, die Marketingforschung in diesen Ländern ist jedoch noch weitestgehend lückenhaft. Diese Arbeit untersucht daher das Länderimage sowie die Beurteilung von Produkten aus Polen, Ungarn, Slowenien, Slowakei und Tschechien unter österreichischen institutionellen Käufern. Weiters werden Hypothesen über die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Länderimage, Produktwahrnehmung und Kaufabsicht erstellt und geprüft.

Theory of Mind (ToM) defines the ability to understand other peoples' behaviour and emotions by understanding their mental states such as beliefs or intentions. In ToM research there is an interesting developmental course: When someone's intention is fulfilled, 2- to 3-year-olds attribute good emotions to the other, and they attribute bad emotions when his or her intention is not fulfilled. This process is defined as intention-based emotion attribution. Things get complicated in the case of fulfilled immoral intentions. While 4- to 5-year-olds ignore the immoral aspect by solely attributing "happy victimizer" emotions to the other, 6- to 7-year-olds attribute mixed emotions: A fulfilled intention makes someone feel good; but the moral rule violation also causes bad feelings. By using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in adults this work investigated neural networks of intention-based emotion attribution, and revealed common neural activity associated with non-immoral (neutral) and immoral intentions. This indicates that the development of neutral and immoral intention understanding might be associated with the maturation of common rather than distinct brain regions.
