A mythical religious artifact. The promise of immortality. After four decomposing bodies are found in the glamorous ski town of Aspen, Colorado, Harley-riding Detective Ben Kaye gets a call from a former LAPD colleague to help shine a light on this disturbing discovery. When Kaye rides into Aspen he's expecting a routine homicide investigation. Instead, he finds himself in a new town, with a new partner; Aspen PD Detective Beth Skinner; and the strangest mystery either has ever encountered. The unusual house where the bodies were found doesn't officially exist.A treasure trove of priceless religious art goes ignored and unclaimed. The first responders who entered the house all die suddenly - except one.Potential witnesses identify suspects from decades-old photographs. As Kaye and Skinner dig deeper they unmask a world-wide battle between powerful religious and secular forces for possession of a mythical religious artifact known to some as The Serpents of Eve. The artifact, said to confer immortality on the righteous who touch it, may reveal the truth of Creation, the Crucifixion and Christ's Resurrection.Or, it may prove them all false. The further Kaye navigates into the conflict between science and religion, the more desperate the need to find the killers becomes. As Kaye searches for answers to his questions, he realizes those answers could have dire consequences.Because something escaped from the house and is killing people. Lots of people. And the whispers are growing. Is it the End of Days?

Lincolnshire Parish Correspondence of John Kaye, Bishop of Lincoln 1827-53
The 532 letters that are published in this volume come from the extensive correspondence that was received from people in Lincolnshire parishes by John Kaye, Bishop of Lincoln between 1827 and 1853. They are important because theyexpress the opinions and reflect the attitudes of lay people as well as clergymen: Kaye's correspondents ranged from members of the landed gentry to people who would usually have little direct contact with the bishop. They included a 'troublesome', 'deceptious' and 'pugnacious' village carrier disputing the fees charged for burial in his local churchyard, as well as the farmer who complained of the 'hill usige' that he had 'ricivid from the viker' of hisparish. The correspondence reflects Kaye's work as a Church reformer, but it is also important for the way that it demonstrates the changing significance of the Church in the lives of local communities. The extent to which the Church and its affairs were the means through which the social relations of parishes were articulated and sustained was a measure of the continuing importance of the establishment. ROD AMBLER is Senior Lecturerin History at the University of Hull.

Mother, don't laugh " "It would be rather difficult, I own," said Mrs. Lindsay, trying to straighten her face. "I'm afraid you made an unfortunate choice in your knight." "It's just as bad," continued Sylvia, "if you pretend you're somebody out of a book yourself. So much depends upon other people. I was Rowena in Ivanhoe yesterday. I had to be rather haughty; because, you see.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Kaye Williams began his lifelong fascination with ships and the waterfront. The ships were passing tugboats, freighters and lumber schooners, and the waterfront was in Bridgeport, Connecticut - a gritty industrial city on the shores of Long Island Sound, and once the home of P. T. Barnum. After marrying his teenage sweetheart Vivian, Kaye pursued careers as an ironworker, boat dealer and lobsterboat captain. But it was his fourth career that attracted international attention - the creation of Captain's Cove Seaport, and the restoration of the Rose, the replica of an eighteenth century British frigate. Captain's Cove Seaport began an urban revival in a crime ridden, backwater corner of Bridgeport. By restoring the Rose, Kaye created an internationally renowned sailing training vessel that became Connecticut's official state ship. And he didn't stop there. Building a replica of an early aircraft led to a friendship with retired-Chief Justice Warren Burger, a wedding that was moved from the North Pole to a Baltimore courthouse, and the involvement of Russian sailors on a Bill of Rights bicentennial tour aboard the Rose. Man of the Waterfront is both a compelling human drama and a look at the social impact of efforts to revive a mid-sized, industrial city. Honorable Mention for General Non-Fiction at the 2012 New England Book Festival, and Honorable Mention for Biographies at the 2013 Great Northwest Book festival.

About the Author- Angela Brazil (pronounced "brazzle") (30 November 1868 - 13 March 1947) was one of the first British writers of "modern schoolgirls' stories", written from the characters' point of view and intended primarily as entertainment rather than moral instruction. In the first half of the twentieth century she published nearly 50 books of girls' fiction, the vast majority being boarding school stories. She also published numerous short stories in magazines. Her books were commercially successful, were widely read by tween girls, and influential upon their readers citation needed]. While interest in girls' school stories waned after World War II, her books remained popular until the 1960s. They were seen as disruptive and a negative influence on moral standards by some figures in authority during the height of their popularity, and in some cases were banned by headmistresses in British girls' schools. Drip, drip, drip The rain came pouring down on a certain September afternoon, turning the tennis lawn to a swamp, dashing the bloom off the roses, spoiling the geraniums, and driving even the blackbirds and thrushes to seek shelter inside the summer house. It was that steady, settled, hopeless rain that does not hold out the slightest promise of ever stopping; there was not a patch of blue to be seen in the sky sufficient to make the traditional seaman's jacket; several large black snails were crawling along the garden walk as if enjoying the bath; and the barometer in the hall, which started the day at "Set Fair", had now sunk below "Change", and showed no signs of intending to rise again.
