The Road to Marital Success is Unpaved

The Road to Marital Success is Unpaved

This highly readable research-based book provides surprising answers to this simple question in plain language. Successfully married spouses have a realistic understanding of marriage and demonstrate effective marriage skills when compared to those in troubled marriages. The authors tell the reader those "secret" understandings of marriage, but more importantly, describe the skills needed to be successful and how to learn those skills. The book is a practical roadmap for married people to realize their dreams of a life-long marriage worth lasting. The book explodes myths about marriage, explains why the challenges and struggles of marriage are normal, how to get through them and reassures us that when a marriage is successful, the effort is worthwhile. The book treats marriage as a "game" and describes how to play it well and have fun playing it. The skills are presented as practical behaviours that can be learned and applied as soon as the next day. The skills turn many ideas about marriage, and even some expert advice, on their head, and while acknowledging that a successful marriage can seem magical, the book exposes the secrets and tricks behind the magic. This is a book for people starting out in a marriage, for people struggling in a troubled marriage, and even for people heading for divorce who would like to turn around their marriage. The book makes clear that reaching a successful marriage is not easy, but that most marriages can be successful. More importantly, the book offers hope and a practical "we can do it" and "here is how" approach. Finally, the book offers a roadmap to mental health counsellors (psychologists, marriage, child and family counsellors, social workers and other licensed counsellors), when working with clients who need help regarding their marital situation.

Yellowstone National Park has been an important part of our natural heritage for more than a century; even so, some of the men who preserved this great work of nature for the enjoyment of mankind have yet to receive full recognition. Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were among the first to explore the park area and to urge that it be set aside and protected. Engineers were also responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the system of scenic roads which opened the wonders of Yellowstone to the public. In Enchanted Enclosure, Dr. Baldwin has brought together for the first time original reports which tell the story ---often a dramatic one--- of the dedicated service of the Engineers to the cause of conservation. His book should appeal to the general reader as well as to the specialist. William C. Gribble, Jr. Lieutenant General, USA Chief of Engineers

Established outside Columbus, Georgia, in October 1918 by the United States Army as Camp Benning, the base was moved to its permanent location, nine miles south, in June 1919. In 1922, the post was made permanent and was named Fort Benning. Created as the new location of The Infantry School of Arms, Fort Benning became the training post for many of the country's future leaders, as well as a major part of the military experience for hundreds of thousands of American soldiers. The post's current size, more than 180,000 acres, has long made it recognized as one of the largest infantry bases in the world. Named for Gen. Henry L. Benning of Columbus, the installation has had a major impact on the economic and social life of nearby Columbus. Images of America: Fort Benning features vintage photographs and postcards, mostly from 1918 to 1978, showcasing the first 60 years of the base's 85-year history. Included are scenes of the temporary encampment on Macon Road and the early wooden encampment on the Main Post. The permanent buildup from the late 1920s to the early 1940s is shown in photographs of The Infantry School, the Officers' Club, Main Post Chapel, Doughboy Stadium, Gowdy Field, the Jump Towers, Lawson Field, the Cuartel Barracks, and the officers' quarters, as well as Riverside, the Commandant's Home, formerly the Bussey Plantation. Activities and events include military reviews, visits of presidents, and the National Infantry Museum's dedication. Generals who served there and are featured include Bradley, Eisenhower, Marshall, and Patton. This centennial edition features a new foreword by Don Sando, deputy to the commanding general.

A wave of new Christian churches are emerging to reach unchurched and dechurched people who live in a culture that is increasingly non-religious and multi-religious. These new forms of church gather and network with people who typically have never been to church. The new faith communities listen to people and go where they are on the journey toward Jesus. They are deeply ecumenical but do not lose their distinctiveness because they learn fresh ways to communicate their identity through discipleship. Fresh Expressions began in the United Kingdom where it ignited over 3000 new faith communities. In the United States the movement is putting down roots in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Ken Carter and Audrey Warren offer this book as a group study for church leaders and congregations who are in the grip of Holy Spirit motivation to renew their tradition by reaching people who are dechurched or not yet in a discipleship relationship with Jesus. Each chapter includes two Bible study experiences for group conversation. "I have been an observer of and cheerleader for the Fresh Expressions movement ... from the beginning, and I've lamented how slow US congregations have been to welcome and adapt this movement for our setting. Now, as an admirer and ally of the United Methodist mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, I am thrilled to see Fresh Expressions gaining this hearing in United Methodism in the United States. May thousands of congregations be inspired and equipped by Audrey Warren and Kenneth Carter's new book " - Brian D. McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration "I was most fortunate to have Ken Carter and Audrey Warren as my guides as we explored Fresh Expressions of Church all across England. Now you are fortunate enough to have them lead you on a similar journey through the pages of this book. I hope you will be as excited as I was to find Church as I always dreamed it could be, moving outside the walls of sanctuaries and radically following the Holy Spirit's lead to new spaces and new people. This is the Church of Acts and the early Methodists. I hope it is also the Church of the twenty-first century. Enjoy your journey " --Sue Haupert-Johnson, Resident Bishop of the North Georgia Episcopal Area, The United Methodist Church "If you've felt God calling your church into a new kind of mission but you haven't been sure how to go about it -- this book is a great place to start. Get ready for a dose of hope." --Kenda Creasy Dean, Mary D. Synnott Professor of Youth, Church and Culture, Princeton Theological Seminary "This book is an essential group study for United Methodists who are serious about God's mission. Well researched, clearly written, and insightful, this volume includes carefully developed Bible studies and reflection questions for every chapter. --Elaine A. Heath, dean, Duke Divinity School "I owe my spiritual life to a group of pioneer missionaries who followed Jesus into my world. Fresh Expressions is a new way to do this." --Jorge Acevedo, lead pastor, Grace Church, a multi-site United Methodist congregation "Marvelous stuff Pray God this timely book, with its readable and inspirational content and Bible studies, finds its way into the hearts, minds, and decisions of every congregation in every conference " --Martyn Atkins, former General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Britain
Newcastle United - Manager Menagerie: A statistical and anecdotal overview of Newcastle United's Managers
After many years of following "the Toon", meeting some fascinating people, all with stories to tell, and arguments to have, about who is the best player, manager, the greatest game, etc., I was inspired to create a 'statistical journey' through the history of Newcastle United. This took the form of my website "toon1892.com" and as a direct product of that, following many requests for a reference manual, "Newcastle United Manager Menagerie" was born. In this book you will find all the statistics covering every manager from 1892 to 2015. From how many games they managed, to how many games they won, drew or lost to how many goals their teams scored and conceded and in what competitions. If you ever wanted to know exactly how any manager performed, or compare any manager to others - this book has the statistics for you to do this.

This work is a chronology of memories from my 3 years of service in the United States Army, sparked by almost five hundred pages of letters written home by me, and saved by my wonderful mother. Just prior to my entrance into the Army on 20 December 1965 there still exists memories, until now, unwritten, for why I made the choice to enlist.
