Wie schon bei seinem späteren Welterfolg "Ali und Nino" (unter dem Pseudonym Kurban Said erschienen) ist der Autor auch bei diesen beiden Novellen voll in seinem Element: Liebesgeschichten vor der Kulisse des Kaukasus kurz nach Ausbruch der russischen Revolution - mit seiner Ölindustrie, seinen Völkern mit ihren merkwürdigen Sitten und Bräuchen. Diese Novellen erschienen 1934 in Polen in einer Groschenheft-Reihe. Über die Zusammenhänge ihrer Entstehung ist bislang nichts bekannt, die deutschen Originalmanuskripte gelten als verschollen. 1998 in der Polnischen Nationalbibliothek entdeckt, erscheinen sie nun erstmals auf Deutsch.
