Grasping the Heel of Heaven honours the immense legacy to the church of Michael Perham. A skilled and imaginative liturgist, a passionate advocate of women’s ministry, an inspirational dean and bishop, a wise and patient administrator, he was above all a faithful priest who loved the Church as the body of Christ. In all his ministry he sought to nourish that body by encouraging its worship and prayer and shaping its governance in the light of gospel ideals. In this volume, friends and colleagues bring their own expertise to reflect on some of the topics and themes that were most important to him, including: • Being transported and transformed by liturgy • The making of Common Worship • The full inclusion of the ministry of women • How structures and decision-making express an understanding of God • Unity despite differences in and through God • The gospel as good news for all Together, the contributors reflect the numerous ways that Michael Perham saw heaven touching earth and earth glimpsing heaven.

How should Christians read prophetic literature? Questions abound both in the academy and the church as to how to engage the prophets, particularly in light of the New Testament. The Gospel writers and the church fathers all read and appealed to the Old Testament, but are we as modern-day readers supposed to take the same approach? The Prophets and the Apostolic Witness is a dialogue among scholars that identifies the interpretive methods used throughout history while also charting a constructive way forward for our own approach to reading the Major Prophets. This comprehensive volume brings together experts on Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel to illuminate the following topics: How the Apostles Read the Major Prophets as Christian ScriptureLimits on Reading the Major Prophets as Christian ScriptureReading the Major Prophets in the Footsteps of the ApostlesThe History of Interpretation of the Major Prophets as Christian ScripturePreaching the Major Prophets as Christian Scripture This collaborative endeavor offers fresh and helpful insights to scholars, students, and pastors alike as they engage with the text of the Major Prophets.

This first book-length critical study of Jeremy Irons concentrates on his key performances and acting style. Through the analysis of some of the major screen roles in Irons’s career, such as Brideshead Revisited, The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Reversal of Fortune, Swann in Love, Dead Ringers and Lolita, Mark Nicholls identifies a new masculine identity that unites them: an emblematic figure of the 1980s and 1990s presented as an alternative to the action hero or the common man. Using clear explanations of complex theoretical ideas, this book investigates Jeremy Irons’s performances through the lens of sexual inversion and social rebellion, to uncover an entirely original but recognizable screen type.
Transforming Universities with Digital Distance Education
Transforming Universities with Digital Distance Education explores the ways in which higher education stakeholders can apply and leverage the benefits of online learning. Systems-wide access, scale and quality are achievable goals but require forms of teamwork and financial modelling beyond those at the instructor or programme level. This book’s organisational view tackles the systems and practices that will help senior managers and decision-makers guide an entire institution away from dysfunction—incremental progress, insufficient capacity, high costs and generic products—and towards the macro-level implementation and operations of effective online pedagogies.

New biography of one of the key figures in British history focusing on both his writing and legacy. Sir Walter Raleigh is a figure writ large in popular imagination. Yet how can we understand this man who was soldier, voyager, visionary, courtier, politician, poet, historian, patriot and 'traitor'? We know some facts, and much can be learned from Raleigh's prose and poetry about his ideas, personality, feelings and values. Important new texts of his works have recently been published: we now possess reliable versions of his poems, his letters and his travel narratives. No biography of Raleigh, however, can be complete without an assessment of his posthumous reputation. Myths that accumulated around him tell us something about the man himself, but far more about the perceptions of his own and subsequent generations. Raleigh's talents as a writer ensured his positive legacy, but the appropriation of his legend for so many differing political uses has left us with a complex picture. In this original and important new biography Williams and Nicholls set this right.

Harry Sleet and Jez are not like others their age. They're runaways, and do what they must to survive: crypt delving or pawning goods, until one day it catches up with them in the form of one time-traveling golden retriever named Blink. They think they don't need adults, or the help of strangers, or even each other, until he arrives and alters their perception of true love and security. He takes them to dimensions in the future and past that both frighten and marvel them in the blink of an eye Questions and Answers: Question: Why make a time-travel book about a dog, and a golden retriever at that? I wanted to write a story where the time device is not some clunky machine, but a real flesh and blood being with feelings. Not only that, but also to show that a dog can heal wounds in ways that often get overlooked by their owners. In this day and age, we let politics divide us and keep us from loving one another, yet a dog is apolitical and will love you unconditionally if you allow it, and will also forgive you for just about anything you can think of, which I describe in this novel. Question: If you had to describe this book in one sentence, how would you go about it? Answer: Probably a mix of the best time-travel books from the 20th century: The Time Machine, A Wrinkle in Time, Time After Time, etc, with a few monsters from the future. It is hard to describe since there isn't that many time-travel books where the dog is the actual catalyst. There is a bit of everything thrown in, but in a nice, flowing way that is not jarring: comedy, fright, loss, sacrifice, and loyalty above all. Question: Isn't it hard to use a dog as a main character? Answer: Dogs, especially golden retrievers, talk to people in their own way. They send signals to us, but only if we're smart enough to open our eyes to recognize them when it happens. This one in particular is exceedingly smart, and you'll come away believing it is more than "just a dog". Question: Any movies similar to this? Answer: It is its own plot, but it is inspired by TRON, Gladiator and The Time Machine, with a pinch of Spy Kids. You won't be disappointed.
