Idol Structures accompanies an exhibition at the DePaul Art Museum of recent photographs and sculptures by Chicago-based artist Matt Siber, whose work explores the systems of corporate and mass-media communication that permeate the urban landscape. Instead of focusing on the information itself, Siber emphasizes the physical infrastructure of these systems. Photographs of the narrow edges of signs, sculptures of billboard ads hanging so loosely that their text is obscured in the folds, and other unique treatments of promotional materials distort and subvert the intended messages. The artist's deconstruction of such commercial efforts reveals an element of communication meant to remain invisible and subservient to image, text, and graphics. By highlighting the everyday objects used to persuade and influence, Siber's art undermines these communication systems' ability to do precisely what they were intended to do.
American scientist Matt Miller is torn from his own century and dropped into Colonial America with nothing except a backpack. This Issue #1.5 has a sneak peak at my next book (Fireworks) at the end & the book only includes the mazes & labyrinths in the color format. This is to reduce the price for some of you enthusiast that are itching for a new Labyrinths Master to hit the scene & provide high quality mazes & labyrinths for your enjoyment. Mind you, I have only recently been trying to attempt the mazes that I have been creating. I have know idea why I never have in the past, I think mostly because I get the relaxation out of the drawing of the maze, which is very similar to the "doing" of the maze by you. But, wow, it has opened my eyes to the strategy of the maze & the relaxation of the labyrinth. I love "mazes" on a large scale & I am looking forward to bringing them to you in some format in the future, but this size of paper really lends to the relaxation of a labyrinth. Do you know the differences between the two? Ahhh Buy & read on my explanation between the two. There are a lot of definitions out there from what I have read, but the fundamental differences can kinda be agreed upon.
