Kolo Moser was one of the most important universal artists in fin-de-siècle Vienna and is one of the leading representatives of Art Nouveau. His oeuvre includes painting, graphics, and crafts, as well as designs for fashion, lighting, and furniture, stage decoration, stained glass windows, book illustrations, and even banknotes. Blazing a trail for the art of his age, he was a founding member of the Vienna Secession and, together with the architect Josef Hoffmann and the industrialist Fritz Wärndorfer, he established the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903. The objective of this collective of fine artists was to realize the Gesamtkunstwerk or total work of art at the highest caliber of arts and crafts. Some 400 objects, presented systematically and explained with essays, open up a new perspective on his impressive oeuvre.

Admired by contemporaries as an artistic “jack - of - all - trades”, Koloman Moser (1868 – 1918) is regarded today as one of the most important representatives of the Viennese Secession of around 1900. As a graphic artist and designer Moser was unparalleled in his artistic diversity, creating furniture, textiles, and objects – for the Wiener Werkstätte among others – that are icons of Modernism, as well as leaving behind an impressive oeuvre of paintings. A group of progressive artists, including Koloman M oser, founded “The Association of Visual Artists of Austria, Secession” under the leadership of Gustav Klimt in 1897. Moser in particular is considered the outstanding graphic artist of the Secession, thanks to his design of posters, exhibition concepts, a nd of the journal Ver Sacrum. He was the ideal master for the formation of the Gesamtkunstwerk “Vienna circa 1900”, hardly surpassed in imagination and productivity. He applied his incredible virtuosity and inexhaustible fantasy to a variety of materials. In 1903 Moser founded, together with Josef Hoffmann and the industrialist Fritz Waerndorfer, the “Wiener Werkstätte” [Viennese Workshops]. The close cooperation between the designing artists and the master craftsmen allowed a completely new level of qualit y of to be attained in artisan craftwork. After 1907 Koloman Moser concentrated on painting once more. This publication presents exceptional examples of his art, drawn primarily from the Leopold Collection and situating them in a biographical and art histo rical context.
Koloman Moser
During his short career, Koloman Moser became a towering figure in Viennese culture. His varied work in interior and graphic design, furniture, textiles, jewellery, metalwork, glass and earthenware helped usher in the modern era. This book surveys the entirety of Moser's oeuvre. It examines his work as a graphic designer and his involvement with the Vienna Secession, with special focus given to his role as an illustrator for the journal Ver Sacrum (Sacred Spring). Moser's forays into textile design and ceramic work are also introduced. The book features his designs for the Vienna Secession, Thonet Brothers and the Mautner family, among others that characterise his early modern style. The book also explores Moser's seminal role as a founding member of the Vienna Workshops, along with architect Josef Hoffman and patron Fritz Waerndorfer. Included are many reproductions of Moser's masterpieces, including the window of the Steinhof Chapel, his exhibition posters, postage stamps and currency and elegant samples from his design portfolio, "The Source."

The Swiss painter and sculptor Wilfrid Moser has gained international recognition for a vast oeuvre consisting of paintings, painted wooden reliefs and sculptures. Moser is regarded a leading figure of abstract-figurative expressionism in post-war Swiss art and an important representative of Tachisme (or Lyrical Abstraction) of the 1940s and 1950s. Moser was born 1914 in Zurich, where he was educated and began his musical studies (violin). Encounters with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and James Ensor in the 1930s were crucial for his development as a painter. After the World War II Moser moved to Paris where he lived and worked until his death in 1997. Space and the city are important subjects of Moser's work.In Paris he became fascinated by the Metro, connecting the hectic urban life of the masses with the myths of the underworld. This book is the first comprehensive monograph on this important figure of 20th century Swiss art. Essays on his biography, his travels and the stages of his work complement the images.

As the most learned and eminent public lawyer in Germany, a busy administrator, and a prolific writer, Moser (1701-85) lived and breathed the political order. His correspondence, memoranda, and manuscript autobiography reflect the intricate day-to-day operations of the empire, and his fascinating life is a microcosm of the life and style of the empire itself. This monograph presents extensions of the Moser–Bangert approach that include solutions of a family of nonlinear elliptic PDEs on Rn and an Allen–Cahn PDE model of phase transitions. After recalling the relevant Moser–Bangert results, Extensions of Moser–Bangert Theory pursues the rich structure of the set of solutions of a simpler model case, expanding upon the studies of Moser and Bangert to include solutions that merely have local minimality properties. Subsequent chapters build upon the introductory results, making the monograph self contained. The work is intended for mathematicians who specialize in partial differential equations and may also be used as a text for a graduate topics course in PDEs.
