Neil MacCormick (1941–2009) was one of the twentieth century's most important legal philosophers and one of Scotland's most influential public intellectuals. This book tells the story of his political and philosophical life, from his intensely political childhood as the son of 'King John', one of the founders of the Scottish National Party, through to his involvement in Scottish politics – especially as the author of SNP's constitutional policy – and his role as a Member of the European Parliament, helping to draft the European Constitution. With special attention to MacCormick's character, this book offers a reading of his entire oeuvre, covering his contributions to theories of legal and moral reasoning, institutional legal theory, nationalism, post-sovereignty, subsidiarity, and constitutional pluralism in Europe. This book reads MacCormick as a highly creative thinker who excelled in the art of constructing inclusive middles and thereby developed his own distinctive approach to politics and philosophy.

This book explores Neil Bartlett’s groundbreaking contributions to queer cultural production in the United Kingdom. It adopts a range of critical perspectives, presenting original scholarship on Bartlett’s fiction, theatre, performance, site-specific work, and adaptations, as well as more personal reflections on Bartlett’s influence and legacy.Charting his emergence as a radical queer artist in the 1970s, his writing for performance and theatre in the 1980s to the present day, and his evocative novels about queer spaces and hidden histories, the book considers Bartlett’s works as ‘invitations to speculate’: to view and imagine otherwise, as part of a political aesthetics committed to making queer lives visible. Bartlett’s bold, sensuous, and challenging work crosses genres to find new ways of articulating queer desires, unearthing histories of the body, pleasure, and gay subjectivity while connecting queer experiences across time.Dealing with topics including memory and loss, AIDS and its legacy, marginality, community, and identity, the collection shows how Bartlett embraces the past as a way of reimagining queer futures and demonstrates his status as one of the UK’s leading queer artists.

Much has been written about Neil Armstrong, America's modern hero and history's most famous space traveler. Yet shy of fame and never one to steal the spotlight Armstrong was always reluctant to discuss his personal side of events. Here for the first time is the story of Neil's life of flight, shared for five decades with his trusted friend Jay Barbree. Working from 50 years of conversations he had with Neil, from notes, interviews, NASA spaceflight transcripts, and remembrances of those Armstrong trusted, Barbree writes about Neil's three passions: flight, family, and friends. This is the inside story of Neil Armstrong from the time he flew combat missions in the Korean War, to when he flew Apollo-Eleven to the moon's Sea of Tranquility. Together Neil and Jay discussed everything, from his love of flying, to the war years, and of course his time in space. The book is full of never-before-seen photos and personal details written down for the first time, including what Armstrong really felt when he took that first step on the moon, what life in NASA was like, and what he felt the future of space exploration should be. As the only reporter to have covered all 166 American astronaut flights and moon landings Jay knows these events intimately. Through his friendship with Neil and his dedicated research, Barbree brings us the most accurate account of his friend's life of flight, the book he planned for twenty years.
The students of Ms. Maybee's class used to think history was boring, but that was before time started to get twisted! When a spaceship carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin inexplicably lands in 1869 Texas, cowboy Nat Love decides to trade in his horse for a trip to the moon. Can siblings Doc and Abby untwist history and get everyone back where they belong? Houston, we have a problem! Steve Sheinkin combines history, hilarity, and surprising twists in Neil Armstrong and Nat Love, Space Cowboys. The Time Twisters series is a surefire hit with history buffs and reluctant readers alike!
