This practical book guides teachers and other school personnel in working with parents as a team to design, review, and modify individual education plans (IEPs) for children with special needs. The goal is for parents and school personnel to work collaboratively and to achieve decision-making by consensus. This way IEPs can best serve the children for whom they are designed. The book details how to hold an ideal IEP meeting, and it explains how to prevent and resolve the conflicts that often arise. The author provides practical techniques for meeting management, conflict prevention, and conflict resolution. The book also contains 25 well researched ""intervention options,"" and checklists and outlines of how people can communicate better.
Positive and productive IEP meetings lay the groundwork for better student outcomes, but when team opinions clash and emotions run high, a meeting can fall apart before the child can benefit. A neutral third-party facilitator can make all the difference--and now there's a practical, how-to guide that shows professionals how to step into this critical role. A popular staff development and conflict resolution specialist whose dynamic presentations have helped thousands of professionals, Nick Martin shows readers how to effectively facilitate the whole IEP process, from initiating contact with team members to working through even the toughest conflicts. Because a good facilitator knows what to say and how to say it, readers will get dozens of realistic team dialogues that not only model effective words but also help them master tone and delivery. And the practical, quick-reference tools and exercises--such as a model IEP meeting agenda, facilitation intervention exercises, and facilitator dos and don'ts--make the principles of successful facilitation clear and easy to apply. A must for IEP facilitators and a valuable read for all team members, this highly accessible guide is the key to maintaining harmony as parents and professionals work toward their common goal: IEPs that help children reach their full potential.

To offer a comprehensive overview of the current and perceived future state of sports journalism competition, this book draws on insight from 100 qualitative interviews with sportswriters working within five unique subsets of written content (daily newspapers, team-run media, The Athletic, Substack newsletters, and SB Nation blogging). Using four main communication concepts (gatekeeping, niche gratification, diffusion of innovations, and journalistic boundary work) as the guiding framework, this book examines how various disseminators of written sports information are able to coexist in the modern sports journalism ecosystem by catering to the niche.

Comparatively few visual artists have written autobiographies, and Trails of a Paintbrush by Nicholas R. Brewer (1857-1949) is an especially engaging story of an artist's education and rise to success. From his beginnings on a pioneering Minnesota farm, Brewer was curious, industrious, and responsive to nature. Moving to St. Paul and later New York, he had little formal training but learned quickly from his many artist friends and acquaintances, including Homer Dodge Martin and George Inness. Brewer eventually became nationally known as a landscapist and portraitist, dubbed "the Abraham Lincoln of American art."Brewer was perhaps unique in his long campaign of traveling exhibitions that included lectures on his guiding principles. The goal of the artist, in his view, is to interpret the beauties of nature through form and color, conveying simple, unchanging truths rather than ephemeral facts. Often linked with Tonalism and Impressionism, Brewer resisted what he saw as the distortions of early modern Expressionists and Cubists, arguing for a "return to the sane and truly progressive along all lines." His belief in an art that communicates with and uplifts the public will resonate with many today. This is an inspiring story of rags to riches and the growth of wisdom through tireless self-education in art, history, politics, and religion. It is also an entertaining account of Brewer's interactions with the famous (Ignace Paderewski, Maud Powell, Franklin D. Roosevelt) and the not-so-famous of his time. Trails of a Paintbrush was originally published in 1938 in a limited edition of 250 copies, which are now rare and costly. The Afton Press reprint is a faithful reproduction, including over ninety-five photographs and artwork.
This book assesses the competitive and contentious EU-Russia relationship in relation to Ukraine from 2010 to 2013, focusing on the important areas of trade, energy and security. The key issue explored is whether this relationship played any meaningful role in the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine since late 2013.Nicholas Ross Smith begins by exploring the competitiveness of the triangular EU-Russia-Ukraine relationship before the crisis. He then examines the eruption of the Ukraine crisis in greater detail, with a particular focus on trade, energy and security. The book goes on to compare three theoretically and empirically informed medium-term scenarios for the future of the relationship. This research provides a wide-ranging snapshot of EU-Russia-Ukraine relations by comparing the foreign policies of the EU and Russia as well as examining the interplay of identity and perceptions on their foreign policy decision-making.Touching upon both international relations and foreign policy analysis, this book will prove invaluable to scholars and practitioners working on Eastern Europe, the EU and Russia. International relations and foreign policy analysis scholars and students will also find much of interest.

There is a movement growing in America around the idea of Local Food. But the term "Local Food" is inconsistently used and poorly defined. The movements' adherents struggle to find any orthodoxy against which they can test new offers. Can I eat Tyson chicken if I'm an Arkansas resident? Is the chocolate shop local if cocoa is sourced from another continent? And do I betray the tenets of the Local Food movement if I buy organic foods, grown sustainably, in another state? In this book, Nick Carter aims to define a term that has existed loosely in America's vernacular for over a decade. Once we understand the problems that Americans have so desperately hoped that Local Food could solve, we can begin to achieve the solutions that we desperately need.
A detailed study of Ipswich at a time of great growth and prosperity, highlighting the activities of its industries, merchants and craftsmen. Ipswich in the late Middle Ages was a flourishing town. A wide range of commodities passed through its port, to and from far-flung markets, bought and sold by merchants from diverse backgrounds, and carried in ships whose design evolved during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Its trading partners, both domestic and overseas, changed in response to developments in the international, national and local economy, as did the occupations of its craftsmen, with textile, leather and metal industries of particular importance. However, despite its importance, and the richness of its medieval archives, the story of Ipswich at the time has been sadly neglected. This is a gap which the author here aims to remedy. His careful study allows a detailed picture of urban life to emerge, shedding new light not only on the borough itself, but on towns more generally at a crucial point in their development and during a period of growing affluence when ordinary people enjoyed an unprecedented rise in standards of living and the benefits of what might be termed our first consumer revolution.
