Uuden sukupolven kertojamestari Sergio Augusto Sanchez (s. 1984) tuo nyt suomalaisten lukijoiden ulottuville nyky-Kolumbian maaseudun ja kaupunkien juurettomien ihmisten kohtalot. Hänen teoksensa maailmaa asuttavat kaupunkilaislapset, ilotytöt, vanhukset, käärmeet ja vyötiäiset. Romaanimaisessa novellikokoelmassa Sade piiskaa asfalttia ollaan paljon tien päällä - Jack Kerouacin hengessä. Oman säväyksensä Einari Aaltosen hienosti suomentamaan kirjaan tuovat kirjailijan Suomi-vaikutteet. Sanchez oli vaihto-opiskeiljana Jyväskylässä vuoden. Tuon ajan vaikutteet näkyvät muun muassa siinä, että kirjassa esiintyy sana taata - myös alkuteoksessa tässä samassa muodossa.

'Admirable' New York Times Book Review 'One of the world's most distinguished scholars of de Sade' Independent The Marquis de Sade, infamous for his obscene writing and sexual cruelty, was incongruously married to a pious wife. A wife who, despite his peccadilloes, loved him devotedly for thirty years, through betrayal, imprisonment, and national turmoil. Bearing his children, editing his manuscripts, visiting him in prison, Renée-Pélagie de Montreuil endured her chaotic marriage with grace, achieving independence in an era when women were entitled to none. Their complex relationship, set against the French Revolution and its aftermath, is brought to life with humour and compassion by Margaret Crosland, the translator of Sade's Gothic Tales. Part of the Pushkin Press Classics series: timeless storytelling by icons of literature, hand-picked from around the globe. Margaret Crosland (1920-2017), born in Shropshire, translated works by the Marquis de Sade, Émile Zola, Colette, Simone de Beauvoir and Cesare Pavese, among others, as well as writing many biographies and works of literary criticism. She was a leading authority on the life and work of the Marquis de Sade. Her prolific writings and translations were sometimes published under the pen name Leonard de Saint-Yves.

Sadean Intertext and Aesthetics in Samuel Beckett's Works
This is the first full-length study of the relevance of the Marquis de Sade (1740-1814) to the works of Samuel Beckett (1906-1989). Since the publication of his correspondence between 2009 and 2016, Beckett's interest in Sade has become more widely known and the question of a Sadean presence in Beckett's ?uvre has been drawing increasing critical attention. However, Sade's sulphurous reputation tends to overshadow the complex intellectual implications of his thought and works, at the crossroads between philosophy, politics, pornography, and poetry. This book provides novel ways to make sense of Sade's appeal for Beckett beyond his taste for the irreverent: indeed, beneath Sade's 'obscenity of surface', Beckett found a world of discourses simultaneously nourished by and revolting against key philosophical and ideological traditions that had shaped the Enlightenment and from which Modernism would later emerge. This research identifies empirical evidence of Sadean intertext in Beckett's works, such as direct borrowings or references, and also retraces Beckett's indirect encounters with Sade's legacy via secondary sources (philosophy, psychology, literature) that he is known to have read and exploited in his works. The study complements and builds on this empirical base with an interpretative analysis of Beckett's relationship to the Sadean and notions of 'sadism', arguing that these motifs can not only throw light on his attitude towards such matters as Enlightenment rationalism and psychoanalytic theory, but also illuminate his relationship with the work of other modernist authors such as Franz Kafka. This book, therefore, aims not simply at documenting Beckett's interest in Sade, but also at piecing together a more comprehensive picture of the reasons for that interest, demonstrating that this Sadean evidence can be used as a meaningful index for a study of the evolution of Beckett's thought, style, and aesthetics throughout his life, as well as providing new insights into the intertextual dimension of his writings.

Featuring contributions from leading scholars of Iranian studies and / or comparative literature, this edited comprehensive and critical edited collection provides detailed scholarly analysis of Hedayat's life and work using a variety of methodological and conceptual approaches.Hedayat is the author of The Blind Owl, the most famous Persian novel both in Iran and in Europe and America. Many of his short stories are in a critical realist style and are regarded as among some of the best written in twentieth century Iran. But his most original contribution was the use of modernist, more often surrealist, techniques in Persian fiction. Thus, he was not only a great writer, but also the founder of modernism in Persian fiction. Yet both Hedayat’s life and his death came to symbolize much more than leading writers would normally claim. He still towers over modern Persian fiction and will remain a highly controversial figure so long as the clash of the modern and the traditional, the Persian and the European, and the religious and the secular, has not led to a synthesis and a consensus.
