Asterid comes to Skinner's Cay, a luxurious private island, looking for a vacation and a new start in life. She never expected to meet the love of her life and the adventures that their affair brings. Her story shows that there is hope for anyone looking for love and that often it comes when you least expect it. There is someone out there for everyone and in Asterid's case, she finds it in the most exciting manner. About the Author Ann Orsini is a wife and mother of thirty-year-old twins. She has been a professional Radiologic Technologist for twenty-eight years. She studied philosophy, psychology, and sociology at Providence College and has always been a fan of Skinner, Camus, Sartre, Kierkegard, and Thoreau. Though their ways of viewing the world, the people in it, and their other beliefs and practices may have sometimes seemed unconventional, their thoughts have carried over to the present day. Whether we live our lives similar to them or the total opposite, we must still try to live as we see best.

Skinner had inhabited the ironbound enclosure labeled "CASHIER" at McLaughlin & Perkins, Inc., so long, that the messenger boys had dubbed him the "cage man." To them he had become something of a bluff. Skinner's pet abomination was cigarettes, and whenever one of these miniatures in uniform chanced to offend that way, he would turn and frown down upon the culprit. The first time he did this to Mickey, the "littlest" messenger boy of the district, who was burning the stub of a cigarette, Mickey dropped the thing in awe.

In January 1970 I began as Head of English at Haslingden County Secondary school. It was a Victorian building on Ryefield Avenue near the Fire Station. A popular TV series at the time was Family at War - which I hated. It ran for almost three years and a total of fifty-two episodes. My family, unfortunately, loved it. Each Tuesday, therefore, I would retire to my study in a huff and write a chapter or two of this novel. Each Wednesday morning I had my favourite third-year class and I would read the next episode to them. Those lessons were among the most rewarding I ever taught in a thirty-eight-year career (thirty-four of them in Haslingden). The class was so responsive, earnestly discussing each chapter; debating whether this character would act the way I said they did. The most valuable part of the lesson, however, was the last bit. Here I received many suggestions for what they wanted to happen next. I used about half of their ideas. About six years ago, I retired to my place in the sun and joined my son in Thailand. I sold my house and car. I gave away most of my building tools and warm clothes and packed my suitcase. I took the original manuscript of the book as it was the most precious thing I had. Since coming to Thailand, I have completed three other books and I am in the middle of two others. They say you always remember your first; well this is it.

Why is Brock Skinner always finding problems in the Eastern Kentucky Appalachian town of Hazard? Brock became wealthy by the age of thirty. He doesn't have to work anymore, and tries to stay out of trouble. His wife, Maude, owns and runs the most beautiful winery in Eastern Kentucky. She learned quickly he had a penchant for finding mischief that no one else suspected. Sheriff Nathan Connors claims there wouldn't be any crime in Perry County if Brock would only move away from Hazard. Appalachian life is on full display in these police procedurals. The Gregorian calendar, used by North Americans since the sixteenth century, has been viewed by superstitious Appalachians as a journey through weather patterns, mimicking the various stages of human life. The average person, by the grace of God, who survived the gauntlet of immeasurable mortal afflictions, hoped to live in the mountains until the ripe old age of ninety-six, which in terms of the calendar, meant each month represented about eight years of existence. Many hardy souls were still taking nourishment at ninety, but making it past ninety-six was considered a daunting task.
Skinner Releasing Technique
Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT), created by Joan Skinner, is a somatic movement, dance and creative practice with a core underlying principle of releasing blocked energy, held tension and habitual patterns in body mind. It enables us to move with greater freedom and ease whilst awakening creativity and spontaneity. The 21 contributors to this book describe how SRT informs their own movement and/or dance practice and influences wider fields of practice including meditation, architecture, poetic listening, visual art, writing, technology and choreography. For them SRT is a transformative and lifelong practice that deepens connections with self, other, more than human life forms and with natural and urban landscapes. This is a book for anyone drawn to explore body mind, somatic, movement and dance practices, and for those who are exploring ways of living in the world creatively, empathically and with more ease and natural grace.
