Amaeric and its allies have been at war with the world for thirty years. Thirty long, terrible years during which nearly entire generations of young men and women have been wiped out and the world has fallen into ruin. It all started with a surprise attack from the south, an inevitable explosion of rising tensions, and now...well, now it continues because the people don't know how to do anything else. War is a cultural cornerstone, a part of every rising generation's identity. But what none of them yet know is that this is the last year. These are the last twelve months of the thirty year war. The tide is turning fatally against Amaeric, its allies are dropping away - all this generation of foot soldiers has to do is survive until the end. Don't die. It's simple enough in theory, but for twenty-one year old Private Tristan Byrne, nothing could be harder. Despite spending the last four years drafted at the Amaeric War Academy, he's unprepared for the hell that awaits him, and he knows it. Unprepared for the brutality and desperation. Unprepared for his monster of a captain - a man driven mad by thirty years of combat and determined to get everyone under his command killed in the name of valor. The only anchor in this storm is Tristan's boyfriend Jack - a corporal on his fourth tour who braves the world with a grin and swagger. But war is cruel, and its masters even crueler. And as the months drag on under Captain Howell's command, the simple rule of don't die becomes harder and harder to follow until Tristan is forced to face the unthinkable. What if none of them come back alive? What if they do?Because Howell is not the only monster lurking in the dark, and war doesn't always end on the front lines.

THE FINAL VOLUME of Curtis Creco’s three-part Blind Vision series, Valor in Prosperity asks and answers the question, “Why valor?” A fierce believer in the ideals embodied in the documents of our nation’s founding, Mr. Greco brings that passion to bear in his spirited defense and clear evocation of capitalism and free markets. While decrying the direction our country is going, Mr. Greco never gives in to despair. He writes that effective change must start at the local and state levels of government, and warms that elected offcials must become accountable to the people whom they represent. Further, the two-party system currently tyrannizing the country was never Constitutionally mandated and strongly suggests the emergence of a viable thirdparty, chaotic as the process will certainly be, in order to disable the dysfunction of the current political structure. The many systemic problems in the country have been metastasizing for years, notes Greco, but no matt er how formidable it seems, each problem can be addressed, and each can be resolved. In the concluding section of the book, “A Functional Stimulus,” he provides visionary solutions for the daunting challenges our country in now facing: electoral and legislative processes, monetary and banking policy, judicial overreach, military adventurism, entitlement programs, and the economy.

Every war continues to dwell in the lives it touched, in the lives of those living through that time, and in those absorbed by its historical significance. The Vietnam War lives on famously and infamously, dependent on political points of view, but those who have “been there, done that” have a highly personalized window on the time they spent in Vietnam creating that history. Valor in Vietnam focuses on nineteen stories of Vietnam, stories of celebrated characters in the veteran community, compelling war narratives, vignettes of battles, and the emotional impact on the combatants. It is replete with leadership lessons as well as lessons learned that are just as applicable today as they were forty years ago. Dedicated to “our comrades-in-arms, who did not return with us from Vietnam, and to those who did, but carry scars in body, soul and spirit,” this is an anecdotal history of America’s war in Vietnam composed of firsthand narratives of Vietnam War veterans, collected by the author, who is also a Vietnam War veteran, and presented in chronological order. These are intense, emotional, and highly personal stories. The Vietnam War transcended the relatively small geographic area within which it was contained. Depending on where you served, when you served, and what your work entailed— Green Beret A-team leader near the Laotian border, rifle company commander fighting in the Ia Drang Valley, Phoenix operative in the Delta, Swift Boat skipper patroling the mangrove swamps of the U Minh forest and Ca Mau Peninsula, air force F-4 Phantom pilot over Hanoi, combat medic in the A Shau Valley, piloting a navy A-1 Skyraider over the South China Sea—your experience was likely different, dramatically different from that of other veterans. The stories in Valor in Vietnam cover all this ground... and much more. Included are the experiences of vets from all four of America’s armed forces: the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force. Historical commentary is provided by prominent military historian Lewis Sorely, West Point class of 1956 and Vietnam War veteran, and author of the Pulitzer Prize nominated Vietnam history A Better War: The Unexamined Victories and Final Tragedy of America’s Last Years in Vietnam (1999) and Westmoreland: The General Who Lost Vietnam (2011) among other books. This commentary provides the connective tissue between the stories: setting the stage, discussing what was going on during the war at that time, detailing the geography of the story, and presenting the then-current strategy of the war. Valor in Vietnam presents a historical overview of the war through the eyes of the participants, men and two women who lived it. Simply put, their stories serve to reflect the commitment, honor, and dedication with which America’s veterans performed their service in Vietnam.

During the Second World War, a b-17 tailgunner had a one-in-four chance of survival during his standard twenty-five-mission tour. Valor, Guts, and Luck is the story of Staff Sergeant Lowell "Slats" Slayton (1923–2013), who beat those odds. An underprivileged kid from Fargo, North Dakota, Slayton was a high school senior the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Drawn to the glamour of the "wild blue yonder" made famous by newsreels, he joined the Army Air Force. Eventually he found himself on an unlucky thirteenth mission to the main fw-190 fighter-aircraft plant in Oschersleben, Germany. After being hit by a rocket, his plane left the protection of the formation and was immediately attacked by a swarm of fighter-aircraft, resulting in damage that forced a crash landing in Germany. Slayton, though wounded, survived the crash landing and spent time in three hospitals and two pow camps and then endured a 300-plus mile trek from Poland to western Germany during one of the coldest winters on record. Through Slayton's recollections, William L. Smallwood conveys the riveting tales of life in the Air Corps, aerial combat, and the horrific experiences of a prisoner of war. Through it all, Slayton's valor, guts, and luck made it possible for him to enjoy a homecoming after the war.

Valor features the thrilling stories that are the fruit of Mark Lee Greenblatt’s interviews with brave American servicemen from twenty-first-century wars. These soldiers, sailors, and Marines have risked their lives several times over for their country as well as for their fellow troops and civilians. Still, until now, their stories have largely gone unnoticed by the public, perhaps lost in the frenzied and often nasty debate surrounding those conflicts. As the author writes, “This generation does not have an Audie Murphy. I set out to change that with this book.” Detailing incredible and evocative feats—including an Army pilot who rescued two fellow pilots from a deadly crash in hostile territory and strapped himself to the helicopter’s exterior for the flight to the hospital—Greenblatt provides glimpses into the minds of these men as they face gut-wrenching decisions and overcome enormous odds. However, this book is much more than tales of riveting action. Each chapter goes beyond linear combat stories to explore each hero’s motivations, dreams, and the genuine emotions that were evoked in the face of extreme danger. Readers will be transported to a variety of settings—from close-quarters urban fighting in Iraq to mountainside ambushes in rural Afghanistan to a midnight rescue in the middle of the Atlantic—as they accompany the men who do not see themselves as heroes but as patriots in the line of duty.

This book concerns transforming despair and its powerful pull toward suicide into a meaningful alternative: discovering the courage to live and finding meaning in life. This work applies Carl Jung's method of active imagination and its artistic products showing that when people learn to confront the rich images and symbols that emerge from their struggles, they can turn their turmoil into a fountain of creativity. He details the paths of himself and five patients whose work in painting, pottery, and dance in conjunction with psychotherapy--led them from dark nights of the soul to full and meaningful lives. Their dramatic artwork illustrates the text.
