Ethno-medicine is a branch of plant sciences which reveals the utility of plants in terms of medicine which is well used by the local residential of the region. There are several species in Gujarat which are used by the local population for their health and for curing various types of diseases. Those species are identified taxonomic-ally and are documented in the current work. The current study is an M.Sc. dissertation work which is being emphasized around the Girnar region located in Junagadh district of Gujarat state (India). The present work is an compilation of the data utilized by local people residing in the region of villages around Girnar.
Traditional knowledge related to the use of natural resources including medicinal plants has been recognized as one of the important assets inherited through generation by the local communities. Such knowledge is generally passed down to the next generation verbally, in the form of odes and poems. In the process of rapid modernization and advancement of medical sciences, partially documented or undocumented knowledge on ethno-medicinal began to deplete drastically. Although several ethno-botanists and anthropologists have made attempts at documenting such knowledge in various parts of the world, several remote localities and indigenous communities have remained unnoticed.
Recommender systems can now be found in many modern applications that expose the user to a huge collection of items. Such systems typically provide the user with a list of recommended items they might prefer, or predict how much they might prefer each item. These systems help users to decide on appropriate items, and ease the task of finding preferred items in the collection.For example, the DVD rental provider Netflix displays predicted ratings for every displayed movie in order to help the user decide which movie to rent. The online book retailer Amazon provides average user ratings for displayed books, and a list of other books that are bought by users who buy a specific book. Microsoft provides many free download for users, such as bug fixes, products and so forth. When a user downloads some software, the system presents a list of additional items that are downloaded together. All these systems are typically categorized as recommender systems, even though they provide diverse services.
