Processes, Products, and Cycles of Tectonic Geomorphology, Volume Six focuses on the process of landscape evolution more than the qualitative landscape description that is commonly available in geomorphic texts. The emerging understanding of the linkage between the modified Davisian landscape cycles and Wilson tectonic cycles is enumerated to highlight how sustainable land-use planning and hazard mitigation can benefit from this integrative perspective of geomorphology. This book is intended for practitioners and advanced-level students of earth sciences.

ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES CRITICS' TOP BOOKS OF 2017FINALIST FOR THE L.A. TIMES BOOK PRIZE IN FICTION "A modern classic." --The New York Times Book Review A young man's close-knit family is nearly destitute when his uncle founds a successful spice company, changing their fortunes overnight. As they move from a cramped, ant-infested shack to a larger house on the other side of Bangalore, and try to adjust to a new way of life, the family dynamic begins to shift. Allegiances realign; marriages are arranged and begin to falter; and conflict brews ominously in the background. Things become "ghachar ghochar"--a nonsense phrase uttered by one meaning something tangled beyond repair, a knot that can't be untied. Elegantly written and punctuated by moments of unexpected warmth and humor, Ghachar Ghochar is a quietly enthralling, deeply unsettling novel about the shifting meanings--and consequences--of financial gain in contemporary India. "A classic tale of wealth and moral ruin." --The New Yorker "Ghachar Ghochar introduces us to a master." --The Paris Review Named a Best Book of the Year by the Guardian, Globe and Mail, and Publishers Weekly Named one of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century by VultureShortlisted for the ALTA National Translation Award in ProseLonglisted for the International Dublin Literary Award

This book examines Shyam Benegal’s films and alternative image(s) of India in his cinema, and traces the trajectory of changing aesthetics of his cinema in the post-liberalisation era. The book engages with the challenges faced by India as a nation-state in post-colonial times. Looking at hybrid and complex narratives of films like Manthan, Junoon, Kalyug, Charandas Chor, Sooraj Ka Satvaan Ghoda, Zubeidaa and Well Done Abba , among others, it analyses how these stories and characters, adapted and derived from mythology, folk-tales, historical fiction and novels, are rooted in the socio-political contexts of modern India. The author explores diverse themes in Benegal’s cinema such as the loss of home and identity, women’s sexuality, and the status of dalits and Muslims in India. He also focuses on how the filmmaker expertly weaves history with myth, culture, and contemporary politics and discusses the debate around the interpretive value of film adaptations, adaptation of history and the representations of marginalised communities and liminal spaces. The book will be useful for students and researchers of film studies, cultural studies, and the humanities. It will also interest readers of Indian cinema and the social and cultural history of India.
Guide to Cloud Computing for Business and Technology Managers
Guide to Cloud Computing for Business and Technology Managers: From Distributed Computing to Cloudware Applications unravels the mystery of cloud computing and explains how it can transform the operating contexts of business enterprises. It provides a clear understanding of what cloud computing really means, what it can do, and when it is practical to use. Addressing the primary management and operation concerns of cloudware, including performance, measurement, monitoring, and security, this pragmatic book:Introduces the enterprise applications integration (EAI) solutions that were a first step toward enabling an integrated enterpriseDetails service-oriented architecture (SOA) and related technologies that paved the road for cloudware applicationsCovers delivery models like IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, and deployment models like public, private, and hybrid cloudsDescribes Amazon, Google, and Microsoft cloudware solutions and services, as well as those of several other playersDemonstrates how cloud computing can reduce costs, achieve business flexibility, and sharpen strategic focusUnlike customary discussions of cloud computing, Guide to Cloud Computing for Business and Technology Managers: From Distributed Computing to Cloudware Applications emphasizes the key differentiator—that cloud computing is able to treat enterprise-level services not merely as discrete stand-alone services, but as Internet-locatable, composable, and repackageable building blocks for generating dynamic real-world enterprise business processes.
Implementing SAP® CRM

Implementing SAP® CRM

nidottu
In today's competitive business environment, most companies realize that the better they can manage their customer relationships, the more successful they will become. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software systems are key tools for companies to manage the customer-facing processes of their businesses. However, many companies have resisted implementing this most critical customer-oriented application due in large part to the lack of a single-point resource on implementing a CRM system. This book attempts to fill that gap.Implementing SAP® CRM will help technologists and managers come to grips with the vision, concept, and technology of CRM. It begins by laying out the groundwork for understanding CRM. It explains the concept and context of CRM and the tangible business benefits of CRM adoption. Demonstrating a professional approach to the evaluation and selection of SAP, it details the critical success factors (CSFs), patterns, and anti-patterns of a successful SAP CRM implementation.CRM implementations can add significant benefit to the company’s bottom line only if the company first transforms itself into a customer-centric and customer-responsive enterprise. This book explains what it means to be a customer-centric and responsive enterprise, and provides a framework for business operations based on customer relationships, rather than the traditional four Ps (product, positioning, price, promotion). It further spells out business process reengineering (BPR) strategies to configure internal business processes and operations with SAP CRM to improve customer-facing strategies, services, and relationships.

Comparative Analysis of Interim Measures – Interim Remedies (England & Wales) v Preservation Measures (China)
Interim remedies and provisional measures are a critical component of civil/commercial litigation and arbitration. The objective of this book is to set out not just the law and practice in relation to the primary interim remedies and preservation measures available in England & Wales and China, but also to provide the comparative analysis between the two jurisdictions concerning these interim measures. The system for interim remedies in England & Wales is well-established, but preservation measures in China are a work in progress and many differences exist between the two legal systems, both in terms of theory and practice. For example, China does not recognise the general concept of interim measures, if looked at from the English law point of view, though it does have similar concepts of Property preservation, evidence preservation and behaviour preservation. China has recently adopted Chinese Civil Code 2020 and in writing this book the authors have incorporated all the relevant elements from the new Code. There is no equivalent of Practice Directions in China, and this book provides provide much needed clarity on this area, drawing together the law and guidance which is presently scattered across numerous local courts in the different provinces. This is an important book that is likely to have a significant impact on existing scholarship regarding interim remedies in England, Wales and China, and be of interest of all parties involved in cross-border litigation. Its readership will include industry professionals, academics, policy-makers and government officials.

This book examines the relationship between cultural difference and practical knowledge and its implications for the study of humanities and the social sciences. It sketches a meta-theory of Western thought to grasp the conceptual distortions that result when a normatively structured theoretical way of understanding the world seeks to displace practical forms of understanding. The book draws on both Western thinkers such as Nietzsche, Marx, Wittgenstein and Foucault and Indian thinkers such as Gandhi, Tagore and Balagangadhara to formulate a practical epistemology that delimits theoretical knowledge by regenerating experiential knowledge that was the hallmark of Indian intellectual traditions and provides the intellectual resources for rejecting normativity. By thus preparing the ground for a radical reconceptualization of the human sciences it seeks to overcome the loss of concepts and the violence generated by the grafting of ill–understood and experience-occluding normative conceptual structures on the fabric of practical life. Finally, the author offers an alternative conceptualization of Indian sociality through the idea of a practitional matrix, which explains both why the West necessarily misunderstood or misdescribed India and how that misdescription enables us to theorize the West. Part of Critical Humanities across Cultures series, this book will be an essential read for scholars and researchers of philosophy, anthropology, sociology, religious studies, post-colonial studies, cultural studies, Indian studies and literature.

This timely book reminds us that innovation is agnostic about where it's created." Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft Over and over, we see big legacy businesses getting beaten to the punch by energetic little start-ups. It seems like innovation can come from only the bottom up or from the outside in. But tech experts Vivek Wadwha and Ismail Amla are here to tell you that "big equals slow and stodgy" is a myth. Based on decades of experience working with both the world's leading brands and disruptive start-ups, this book explores the opportunity legacy companies have to create new markets, supercharge growth, and remake their businesses by combining the mindset and tool belt of start-ups with the benefits of incumbency: boatloads of customer data, decades of brand equity, robust distribution channels, enormous financial asserts, and more. Wadhwa and Amla go deeply into why the pace and dynamics of innovation have changed so dramatically in recent years and show how companies can overcome obstacles like the Eight Deadly Sins of Stasis. Equally important, they provide a playbook on how to use their insights in your own company, team, or career. This fast-paced, anecdote-rich story rethinks modern innovation--a book every manager, executive, and ambitious employee will want to read.
Probability Theory

Probability Theory

Vivek S. Borkar

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.
1995
nidottu
This book presents a selection of topics from probability theory. Essentially, the topics chosen are those that are likely to be the most useful to someone planning to pursue research in the modern theory of stochastic processes. The prospective reader is assumed to have good mathematical maturity. In particular, he should have prior exposure to basic probability theory at the level of, say, K.L. Chung's 'Elementary probability theory with stochastic processes' (Springer-Verlag, 1974) and real and functional analysis at the level of Royden's 'Real analysis' (Macmillan, 1968). The first chapter is a rapid overview of the basics. Each subsequent chapter deals with a separate topic in detail. There is clearly some selection involved and therefore many omissions, but that cannot be helped in a book of this size. The style is deliberately terse to enforce active learning. Thus several tidbits of deduction are left to the reader as labelled exercises in the main text of each chapter. In addition, there are supplementary exercises at the end. In the preface to his classic text on probability ('Probability', Addison Wesley, 1968), Leo Breiman speaks of the right and left hands of probability.
