This book recalls the story of 135 Americans grouped together in a company of paratroopers of the 82nd American Airborne from their enlistment to the end of the Battle of Normandy. Throughout this book, you will discover what stirred them to enlist in this new force, yet unknown even in America : the paratroopers. After the psychological shock provoked by Pearl Harbour on 7th December 1941, this unit, like many others, was created from nothing. You will share with these men their daily life during their military training in the United States through their own accounts, most of them published here for the first time, as well as their life in England in early 1944 whilst awaiting operation 'Overlord'; a plan which was kept secret to the very last minute, even from the paratroopers. Through original accounts, you will take part in the final preparations on the airfield tarmac at Folkingham, in England just before they boarded the C47 aircraft. You will board with them onto the nine C47's assigned to their company, from lift-off to the great night jump onto drop zone 'N'; somewhere in the middle of Normandy among German flak fire. You will take this jump with them, which was the first for almost all of the paratroopers, and alas, the last for many. You will take an active part in the regroupment attempts on the 'high spot' of &'Hill 30';. You will stay with them until the 12th of July 1944, date marking the end of the Battle of Normandy, at a cost of many deaths and casualties. You will understand the organisation of a parachute regiment, a battalion command company and an air transport group during the Battle of Normandy. This book is far from a trivial official report. It is the human testimony of simple soldiers, many of whom have awaited their old-age before telling their tale, for they simply didn't have the strength to tell it earlier. Certain veterans mentioned in this book have deceased before its publication, but the account of their achievements will live on in history.

D s lors, dans le contexte d'une culture en voie de s cularisation, o la religion se trouve de plus en plus contest e dans ses pr tentions organiser et r gir la soci t , il tait normal que l'apolog tique occupe une place importante dans la r flexion th ologique.Chez Tillich, on note une volution importante dans sa mani re d'envisager cette notion. En effet, loin de proposer une approche purement dualiste de l'apolog tique, qui opposerait par exemple la v rit chr tienne au doute ath e, Tillich cherchera toujours rencontrer son interlocuteur ath e sur un terrain commun d'entente. Ce crit re du terrain commun sera d'ailleurs le crit re fondamental de sa compr hension de l'apolog tique, m me si cette derni re se reconfigure de diff rentes mani res au fil du temps. En effet, d'autres crit res seront galement parfois soulign s, surtout durant toute la p riode allemande de son enseignement. Pour montrer les convergences et les discontinuit s dans cette compr hension de l'apolog tique, nous avons envisag la recherche de mani re chronologique, en nous basant sur les principaux textes qui abordaient explicitement le terme apolog tique . Le r sultat de notre recherche fut alors de constater qu'il existait deux grands paradigmes dans la compr hension tillichienne de l'apolog tique, savoir: une apolog tique de l'attaque et une apolog tique de la r ponse. Sch matiquement, nous rattacherons la premi re la p riode allemande de son enseignement, et la seconde la p riode am ricaine. Il faut aussi noter que notre recherche commence par aborder la question de l'apolog tique partir des crits de l'ann e 1913, c'est- -dire des crits ant rieurs la p riode d'enseignement allemande, qu'elle contient galement une reprise rebours de son sujet, via une tude des rapports entre Tillich et Barth, qui mettent en jeu la possibilit , ou non, d'une d marche de type apolog tique, et qu'elle ouvre la question du dialogue interreligieux, ainsi qu' une actualisation de la question apolog tique.

Vermander revisits the encounter between Chinese and Western philosophy while unfolding questions about the way "comparative philosophy" is conducted today. In the vulgate of intellectual history, "Western thought" has constructed a substantialist view of reality that puts "relations" and "processes" into a subordinate position. The same view explains for the primacy given to the autonomy of individual beings. In contrast, according to the same vulgate, Chinese thought has been stressing the fluidity of all phenomena and forms of life to best adapt to their overarching patterns. The critique of these representations is a preliminary for tackling the following question: in today’s context, what style of cross-cultural philosophical engagement should be imagined and fostered? Cross-cultural philosophical dialogue is indeed indispensable to the revival of philosophies that could be both local and genuinely dialogic. The first two chapters focus upon the dominant model propounded by Western sinologists when it comes to comparing the Western philosophical tradition with the Chinese one. The third chapter shifts to Chinese narratives about local, comparative, and global philosophies, notably assessing its self-positioning vis-à-vis Western authors, topics, and concepts. Chapter 4 offers a general reading of ancient Chinese classics, alternative to the one that presently dominates the landscape described in Chapters 1 to 3. Chapter 5 harnesses the results and insights already gathered, offering a blueprint as to the way to positively draw upon different philosophical traditions to engage common questions and pursue shared endeavors. A last chapter presents four cases of ongoing transcultural philosophical dialogues and the promises they bear, while the conclusion recapitulates the journey and opens further perspectives. Once it develops outside pre-formatted narratives, the web shaped by our philosophies and wisdoms suggests the outlines of a world that we could inhabit together.
