For centuries, the North Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough has been a favourite holiday resort. Visitors are drawn there by its glorious scenery, heritage and the warm, welcoming hospitality. In this book local author Keith C.R. Johnston takes readers on a fascinating exploration of the history of the pubs in Scarborough and the nearby villages. He focuses on hostelries that exist today and also highlights notable inns that no longer exist because the area, in common with many other places, has far fewer licensed premises than in the past. At one stage there were eleven pubs in the harbour area, only two of which still exist – the Golden Ball and the Newcastle Packet. Many of those that have disappeared played an interesting part in the history of the town. Scarborough developed as a fishing and shipping port - and later as a major spa centre and seaside resort - and this twofold history influenced the development of the town’s public houses. The author’s extensive research, using a wealth of source material, is further enhanced by the recollections of licensees, workers and customers. Illustrated throughout, with historic and modern images, ‘Scarborough Pubs’ presents a superb portrait of this aspect of local life, past and present.

This antiquarian book contains a complete guide to the different wild foods of Great Britain, being a comprehensive guide to the recognition, gathering, and preparation of mushrooms, eggs, fruit, vegetables, berries, fish, molluscs, insects, and much more. This timeless handbook will appeal to modern readers with an interest in wilderness survival, and it would make for a fantastic edition to collections of related literature. Contents include: "Introductory", "The Principles of Simple Cookery", "A Normal List of the Wild Products of Great Britain", "Edible Mammals", "Birds and their Eggs", "Amphibian: The Edible Frog", "Fresh-Water Molluscs", "Edible Insects and Insect Products", "Crustaceans and Sea Urchins", etcetera. Many vintage texts such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

There are several theories of programming. The first usable theory, often called "Hoare's Logic", is still probably the most widely known. In it, a specification is a pair of predicates: a precondition and postcondition (these and all technical terms will be defined in due course). Another popular and closely related theory by Dijkstra uses the weakest precondition predicate transformer, which is a function from programs and postconditions to preconditions. lones's Vienna Development Method has been used to advantage in some industries; in it, a specification is a pair of predicates (as in Hoare's Logic), but the second predicate is a relation. Temporal Logic is yet another formalism that introduces some special operators and quantifiers to describe some aspects of computation. The theory in this book is simpler than any of those just mentioned. In it, a specification is just a boolean expression. Refinement is just ordinary implication. This theory is also more general than those just mentioned, applying to both terminating and nonterminating computation, to both sequential and parallel computation, to both stand-alone and interactive computation. And it includes time bounds, both for algorithm classification and for tightly constrained real-time applications.
Angelica works for a secret agency responsible for keeping the status quo of the world. Saving human kind from its own destruction and preventing extinction of Life on planet earth. In a World that relies on virtual foundations, where all social systems depend on what does not physically exist, where everyone devotes more and more time to technologies and gadgets that merge us all to a virtual reality, where trends and fashions are promoted by the same virtual means, how do you know what is real and what is not?Imagine that the world is not what you see. That History as you know is an illusion, that religions are not what you think, and all tales are true and someone is watching and playing us, manipulating our reality. What Angelica does not know is that the agency is also manipulating her, hiding the truth about her true identity. And what she really is, is too dangerous to be unveiled.
