We want our children to know and love Jesus and learn what it means to be His disciple. We want their lives to be defined by service to others, love for their enemies, and a deep, trusting faith in God. But even though the home is the first and best place to begin a faith journey, it takes more than home to grow a disciple. Helping kids become lifelong followers of Christ requires the investment of parents, extended family, and Christian ministry workers who partner together in raising them as disciples.Raising Kids to Extraordinary Faith is a valuable resource that gives parents and teachers a practical guide for developing Christian virtue in children. Filled with spiritual growth ideas and suggestions for developing a faith-enriched home and church environment, it provides everyone who influences children purposeful advice, spiritual insight, and essential awareness to help them make discipleship the key component of their parenting, teaching, or mentoring. From prayer and Bible study to spiritual gifts and global awareness, Raising Kids to Extraordinary Faith shows parents and ministry workers how to partner together to help children love Jesus and learn to grow His fruit in their lives.Features include: Thought-provoking questions to help parents and ministry workers clarify how they can impact the spiritual lives of the children around themUseful side bars, real-life examples, scriptural principles, and age-appropriate ideas for discipling childrenA family accountability model to help the entire family add the practice of discipleship into their daily livesA Bible study for children to help them apply God's truth to their daily livesDownloadable resources including, a 13-week leader's guide and student sheets for studying the book in a group settingA bibliography of helpful resources for more spiritual growth

For decades, college librarians have worked with faculty to incorporate library instruction into their courses. Yet the degree to which information literacy goals and objectives have been integrated at colleges and universities is not entirely clear. Since so many instruction sessions are incorporated into first year student courses, the survey detailed in this CLIP Note focused on instruction for first year students. How many institutions are offering credit bearing stand-alone courses for first year students? Are library skills an articulated objective or competency in the first year curriculum? How many institutions offer multiple course-related sessions for first year students? The responses to these and other questions are as diverse as the institutions surveyed, revealing that there is no “one size fits all” model program for library instruction. Samples of objectives and competencies, syllabi, assignments, and tutorials are included in this CLIP Note as suggestions for librarians and faculty working together to graduate information literate students.

A gender responsive budget (GRB) is one which takes into consideration the effect of government revenue and expenditure policies on both women and men. This publication provides a comprehensive understanding of GRB initiatives and will be invaluable to governments, NGOs, donors and other agencies working to integrate a gender analysis into public expenditure policies and budgets. Divided into four sections, the book provides a conceptual and theoretical framework, traces the evolution of work in this area, assesses the role of different stakeholders and highlights lessons learned to date. A profile of known activities at country level shows how gender responsive budgets have been used as a pivotal tool with which to assess budgetary performance and impact.

Arms are out of control. Arms kill more than half a million men, women, and children on average every year. Many thousands more are maimed, or tortured, or forced to flee their homes. The uncontrolled proliferation of arms fuels human rights violations, escalates conflicts, and intensifies poverty. The time for world leaders to act is now. to confront this crisis, Oxfam, Amnesty International, and the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) have together launched an international campaign calling for effective arms controls to make people genuinely safer from the threat of armed violence. This volume provides a hard-hitting analysis of how abuse of small arms across the world is fuelling poverty and suffering.

Thousands of Chinese students visit our churches and join Christian activities. Many even say they have become Christians while abroad. Some go on to make great contributions to Chinese church and society. Sadly, however, many fall away after they return to China. Debbie Philip has visited hundreds of returnees. She offers a new perspective for understanding what happens when Chinese students encounter Christians abroad and what needs to happen if they are to continue following Christ after returning home. The life stories, illustrations, and suggestions in this book will help you understand and support Chinese returnees better as they prepare to go home.

These twelve linked stories confirm what we have suspected all along: eventually we all outsmart our parents. In this brilliant debut collection by Debbie Howlett we return to the turbulent 70s revisiting the bittersweet wonder years of Diane Wilkinson, a precocious teen living in suburban Montreal amidst the Catholic/Protestant, Federalist/Separatist split that foreshadowed the October Crisis. Against this backdrop of upheaval, Diane quietly chooses sides in her own domestic battles and armed with deadpan humour she protests her drunken father's hapless philandering, her uncle's half-cocked scams, her brother's dim-witted nosiness and her mother's silent acquiescence. The book captures the coming of age of a country as much as of a character - and both badly need to grow up. Diane soon comes to recognise, as we all must, that the line between adolescence and adulthood is one of convenience, and that the frantic search for love is no less desperate at 12 than it is at 40. Readers will want to curl up with these stories and stay all night.

Manual of Liver and Retrieval Anaesthesia

This manual, introduces advanced anaesthetic management ideas for the challenging patient with liver disease, and the peri-operative organ donor. Many Trusts are expanding their hepatobiliary services and all anaesthetists are more likely to encounter adult, parturient and paediatric patients in various stages of liver impairment for liver-related and non-liver interventions. UK anaesthesia trainees have also highlighted uncertainty in anaesthetic management during organ retrieval surgery. There is also a need to recognise the growing trend of living organ donation and how the donors and recipients may be affected. Both liver and retrieval anaesthesia present issues of optimisation and preservation of existing function and are addressed in this manual, originally written to accompany my two 1-day KLARA Courses at the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2012, with help from specialists of the day, colleagues of the time, and many who went on to gainful employment within the sub-speciality.

The Black Ghost Dog, Harbinger of Doom, is wreaking havoc at the annual Hunter's Gathering. The brothers know that there is always bound to be trouble when a large group of supernatural hunters get together for their annual Gathering, but they have no way of anticipating the extent of adversity waiting for them. The Gathering is supposed to be a time to catch up with old friends and say good-bye to fallen comrades. But this year is different, with some of the attendees harboring an animosity which borders on hatred. In addition, the mysterious black ghost dog has made an appearance. The creature has set its sights on several specific individuals, including Scott Devereaux. One by one, the hunters that see the black dog are having misfortune fall on them, whether through serious, sometimes deadly, accidents or obscure illnesses. Emma and Tim find themselves racing against time to try and figure out who is controlling the hellhound, but even if they succeed, will they be able to stop the culprit before it's too late for Scott and the other hunters?
