Alexander Hunt holds onto two secrets: both could ruin his life, but one could end it. The sudden move from Calgary, Alberta to the outskirts of Jasper during his senior year leaves Alex isolated in a cabin with bickering parents. He copes by taking daily hikes along the shores of Maligne Lake until he meets a young man named Amulii. He's huge, unkempt, and speaks broken English, but there's something else uncanny about him Alex can't quite place. What starts as a frightening first encounter escalates the moment Amulii gives Alex a strange gift and reveals there's something much wilder about him than meets the eye. Unbeknownst to Alex, this sets off a series of devastating events that sends both of them fleeing from an aggressive, well-armed militia in the forest. As Amulii and Alex escape into the mountains, their bond strengthens as they learn from one another, and what was once distrust evolves into something much deeper. Despite that, there are only two questions burning Alex's waking thoughts as they traverse the harsh wilds of western Alberta, waiting for salvation: will he be caught and killed, or will he lose the rest of his humanity to Amulii's mistake?Content Warning: This book is intended for those over the age of 17 and contains explicit sex and graphic violence. While those themes are not prominent in the story, they pop up from time to time. In case this isn't clear from the blurb or the website, this is a gay-centric paranormal romance with real biped werewolves. This is not A/B/O

During the high days of modernization fever, among the many disorienting changes Germans experienced in the Weimar Republic was an unprecedented mingling of consumption and identity: increasingly, what one bought signaled who one was. Exemplary of this volatile dynamic was the era’s burgeoning motorcycle culture. With automobiles largely a luxury of the upper classes, motorcycles complexly symbolized masculinity and freedom, embodying a widespread desire to embrace progress as well as profound anxieties over the course of social transformation. Through its richly textured account of the motorcycle as both icon and commodity, The Devil’s Wheels teases out the intricacies of gender and class in the Weimar years.

Contemporary Reflections on Business Ethics

Contemporary Reflections on Business Ethics

Ronald Duska

Springer Nature Switzerland AG

This second edition of Ronald Duska's 2007 book Contemporary Reflections in Business Ethics contains many of the fine articles in the original edition as well as 20 new entries, and two papers that have not been previously published. The editors have included new introductions to each part and an epilogue outlining why and in what ways Duska’s work is prescient to present and future research in business ethics as well as to its contributions to practice in commerce. The late Ronald Duska was an important scholar in business ethics, and his work on an Aristotelian approach is innovative for this field. Moreover, Duska is one of the few business ethics scholars to work on issues in finance and the financial series industry, despite their central roles in mature economies in the United States, Europe, and East Asia. Those contributions, included in this second edition, most for the first time, are part of his seminal thinking in this field to which few other scholars have participated. Thus, this new edition is important not merely to honor a distinguished scholar in business ethics, but also for his philosophical thinking that is central to new thinking in this field.

Personality and the Challenges of Democratic Governance

Personality and the Challenges of Democratic Governance

Aaron Dusso

This book examines how the five-factor model of personality (also known as the Big Five)—extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability/neuroticism, and openness to experience—influence individuals’ ability to understand and engage in four areas of civic life. First, it documents how personality influences individuals when connecting abstract concepts like liberal or conservative to specific public policy preferences. Second, it demonstrates how understanding basic political facts is often conditional on these traits. Third, it tests the role that personality plays in citizens’ capacity to fulfill the basic demands that democratic governance places on them, such as connecting their own policy preferences to the correct political party. Fourth, it reveals how personality traits can blind people to the role government plays in their lives, while simultaneously causing them to vilify more visible beneficiaries of government programs. Ultimately, thisbook will engage both scholars and civic-minded individuals interested in understanding the hidden factors driving political behavior.
