The true story of a Jewish boy in hiding during World War II, as told by his teddy bear. I felt Fred’s small hand grab me. He patted me and whispered, “Bear, I won’t leave you here all by yourself. You are my best friend.” Based on true events and beautifully illustrated, this is the story of a friendship that will last forever—told by Fred’s best friend, his beloved teddy bear. During World War II, Fred must leave his home and live in hiding, apart from the rest of his family, but he always keeps Bear by his side. Bear knows it’s his job to take care of Fred and make sure he doesn’t feel alone. After the war, Fred and his family are reunited and leave Holland for the United States. And still Bear is with him. When Fred grows up, he and Bear part for the first time when Bear is sent to Yad Vashem—the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Israel, where this book was first published—to show the power of hope, friendship, and love.

Come along with Fred the rabbit as he outsmarts the hungry and dastardly wolf Albert and then venture into the world of cats with Midnight as she hesitantly makes a new friend in Orange. The Adventures of Fred and the Magic Carrots and Other Stories is a delightful and fun collection of stories written to teach children the values of cooperation, trust, and faith.About the AuthorGW ASH has been telling stories to her children and grandchildren for many years. She was reared in Springville, Utah, and as an only child, since there was no television in her home, her mother would read fairy tales to her from the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson. She delighted in the Disney films at her local theater and tried to see them whenever they came to town. Her best friend became an old Royal upright grand piano, which her mother purchased for one hundred dollars. She loved music and became quite proficient, winning several competitions. ASH went on to attend Brigham Young University and majored in elementary education. She married quite young, and she and her husband had five children. After moving around quite a bit, they eventually settled in Orem, Utah. ASH is now active in her church, holding several positions including a teacher for the primary-aged children and as a pianist. With all five children grown and with children of their own, she enjoys reminiscing with them the stories she would tell and feels fortunate to have them collected in this collection: her second published work.

It has been an uneventful summer, but by mid-morning, the serene country village of Harmony would be plunged into chaos and controversy. The Watson family, preparing breakfast, were startled by angry protests from an old sportscar at the back of their house, starting, stalling, and starting again. The phone rang, "Henry, were you out with the bassets in your car this morning?""They got away from me and went solo.""The whole town's talking " In his book Phoebe and Fred, author Nathaniel Johnson ushers readers into the extraordinary realm of Basset Hounds and displays how these uncommonly intelligent and affectionate animals might coax unsuspecting humans into their domain.

Read the story behind the award-winning film Judas and the Black Messiah On December 4, 1969, attorney Jeff Haas was in a police lockup in Chicago, interviewing Fred Hampton’s fiancÉe. Deborah Johnson described how the police pulled her from the room as Fred lay unconscious on their bed. She heard one officer say, “He’s still alive.” She then heard two shots. A second officer said, “He’s good and dead now.” She looked at Jeff and asked, “What can you do?” The Assassination of Fred Hampton remains Haas’s personal account of how he and People’s Law Office partner Flint Taylor pursued Hampton’s assassins, ultimately prevailing over unlimited government resources and FBI conspiracy. Fifty years later, Haas writes that there is still an urgent need for the revolutionary systemic changes Hampton was organizing to accomplish. Not only a story of justice delivered, this book spotlights Hampton as a dynamic community leader and an inspiration for those in the ongoing fight against injustice and police brutality.
